ipod vs. zen vs. zune

edited November -1 in General Discussion
I've decided to finally give in and purchase an MP3 player, mainly to use in my car. And since I know nothing, and you guys may know everything (or nothing at all tongue.gif ) about them, please help me choose. I know that price and hd capacity is about the same for each maker and that apple has more accessories, but what are the pros and cons? ex. battery life, ease of use, durability (such as "I dropped it 5 times and it's still working" kind of thing).

Thanks in advance!

-Mia.

EDIT: I decided to make it a poll tongue.gif

  • Andy may shoot me for this BUT

I originally wanted a Zen but they don't work with Apple Macs so I got a ipod (mini), and it's lovely smile.gif
I drop it all the time, I've got paint and water in/on the buttons all the time and it still works. The battery life is fine and it's really quite cute smile.gif
  • i love my zen, and its never steared me wrong

but i think they are more expencive then the i-pods

i have never used a zune so cant coment

    [edit]

i could never shoot somthing so cute =p
  • ipods are great..
as long as its not the fourth generation one (the photo one that came out right before video) because that one is fucking retarded.
however, they dont sell those anymore..
the latest video ipod is good i hear - no major issues from anyone i know who has it..
if you're considering getting an ipod, you're probably best with the regular video ipod compared to a nano or shuffle or something, because for the additional like 50 bucks you pay, you get loads more storage..
  • Its all about the zens...totally...

if u have a large budget, then may i suggest the zen vision...totally awesome...i think it has the biggest screen.

im hoping to buy it as soon as i get a job. totally

(btw totally is my new fav word. totally)
  • haha i totally overuse totally! smile.gif
  • If you get an ipod, get a case without clips for it. I tend to beat stuff up with back-pack crushings and dropping stuff on the floor, etc, so I broke my first ipod three times (luckily, I had a warranty). The case I had damaged it too; it was the kind with the clip. It turns out the clip had been pushing into it every time I pressed it against the wall from inside my backpack or when the books inside pressed against it themselves. But then I bought a better case, one without clips, and have dropped it 6 billion times- even down the stairs- and it's been fine this whole year.
  • Ok, don't vote for Zune. They are ugly compared to the shiny and colorful ipods and zens. Plus, since they are new to the market, I don't think I want a $250 electronic device that will possibly have bugs and what not. Sorry Bill Gates.

    So, Ipod vs. Zen.

HFoC- have you dropped you zen down the stairs 6 billion times as tabetha has with her ipod? or gotten paint/water on it as electra has with her ipod?

I'm just questioning the sturdiness of these devices as I can be careless sometimes. I've dropped my cell phone several times and set it in water (it still works). That's the quality I'm looking for: an MP3 player that can go through hell and can still play HIGA on demand.
  • I'd definitely go with an iPod. Mine's a video, and the only thing that I really don't like about it is how scratched up it is, but I can still see the screen very clearly in spite of that. I drop it all the time, and it's still in great condition. Plus, the click wheel is the most fun thing on the planet. biggrin.gif
  • ipods have loads of cute covers.
mine wears a mini polo - so adorable smile.gif

    haha sort of i guess?
i'll get a picture on here by tonight smile.gif
  • I've dropped my zen a few times and it has survived admirably, and it has also taken a beating in my bags.

Oh and the battery also lasts very well.
  • My zen gets dropped all the time and it lives in my school bag which is not really safe anyway... and it's all good...

    sturdy little creatures happy.gif
  • ^^^^

  • ladies and gentlemen, i present..
    James III:

    image

    image

he was originally James, but then i had to get my ipod replaced twice (thats why i said 4th generation ones are terrible but no longer made so its ok) and therefore since this is my third ipod, he is James III.
    why james?
because when i first got my ipod, i really like james blunt.
and because i could just imagine a cool dude named james to be wearing a green striped polo. smile.gif

    i love james!
but i really need to wash his polo haha.
  • ^^^Haha. That is way too cool. cool.gif It almost makes me want to get an iPod, almost. Is that something you purchased or is it something you made?

    Decisions, decisions.... laugh.gif
  • i actually got it at old navy about a year and half ago or so (i used to work there).

but yeah there are lots of ipod accessories.
  • Update:

I ended up with an iPod Nano. It was cheap(est) although still pricey because of all the accessories involved. Ugh. But I wished I got 8MB one because I couldn't believe how many songs I wanted to load it with but couldn't because I got the 2MB one. Ah well. Next time.

And thanks everyone for your input.
