Burrito Project & Chicago Shows

edited November -1 in OK Go
This is about to come out as a newsletter, but I figured you'd want to know sooner as there are only 20 spots for the burrito project. Also, they're playing a short acoustic set at the apple store in chicago.

Burrito Project & Chicago Shows

The boys are playing in Chicago this Thursday--at 4pm at the Apple Store and that night at the Double Door--but before the shows they've teamed up with the Inspiration Corporation to try and do a little bit of good.

We're looking for 20 volunteers to meet up with OK Go on Thursday afternoon, eat lunch with the boys, and then head out with the band and volunteers from Inspiration Corporation to hand out burritos to people who are impoverished or currently homeless.

If you're interested in participating, email info@okgo.net with Burrito Project as the subject. Only do this if:

a) You're available Thursday from noon to 3pm
cool.gif You can bring 12 homemade burritos (the recipe is below) to hand out and to eat with the band.

If you have any questions, email them to info@okgo.net. Pete will get back to you soon.

The Inspiration Corporation is a pretty great organization that helps people who are affected by homelessness and poverty to improve their lives. If you can't make it on Thursday afternoon, you should still check them out at http://www.inspirationcorp.org/

To Make The Burritos:

Burritos are simple to make, easy to package, and filled with nutritional goodness. We haven't come up with a patented OK Go Burrito recipe just yet, but here are some basic guidelines:

Get yourself

Some canned black beans or refried beans
Some shredded monterey jack cheese
Some salsa or stewed tomatoes
About a cup of rice
A dozen tortillas

Add a dollop of each of these items onto a tortilla, fold it up into a burrito, and then wrap it in tin foil. You'll be handing these out to people on the street, but you'll also be eating one or two yourself for lunch with the band (the boys don't have a kitchen while on tour, so don't be surprised if they want to try your cooking as well). A dozen burritos should be just enough.

Take care,

jorge

  • Just sent the email.

Also, the recipe isn't showing up on the News page at okgo.net.
  • AH! I'd love this. I'd so do it if I didn't live 2.5 hours away and didn't have class that day.
  • Burritos remind me of Bueno y Sano. Bueno y Sano makes my mouth water just thinking about the deliciousness. I approve of burrito making xD

It really does look like fun- too bad I live in MA.

They have the hugest burritos. smile.gif I don't remember what was there before Bueno y Sano, but clearly it wasn't as good as ByS.
  • Dammit! This sounds so awesome! And I would do it, but I can't skip any more of my English class and I have a concert that night to do. sad.gif
  • You're so thoughtful Mr. Jorge, Whom I Adore!!! Too bad I live all the way across the country. Gahhh this would be a perfect way to spend a day. Helping the community WITH OK Go. Brilliant. I'm so jealous of all of you lucky burrito bandits.
  • i SO wish i could do this!! i won't be getting into the city until a little after 11 and I've gotta wait for my other friend to get there at noon... leaving me no time to get ingredients AND make them... sad.gif i'm so sad!!

Yes, I'm one of the burrito bandidas! I seriously hope I can make a good burrito. I make excellent nachos, but I've never ventured into burrito territory.

    There's a first for everything I suppose.
  • I made it in, too!

I thought they'd have the 20 people already for sure by the time I got the message, but I got my confirmation email late this afternoon. So: Rearranging plans again in order to be in Chicago on Thursday by noon. Ack!

Also, I just went to the grocery.
  • Yay!! I'll know someone besides aross at the Burrito Project!! Well, ya know what I mean.

    This is so exciting!!
  • I'm glad to be going with you, too, Becky!
  • This was a most excellent project to be a part of. Thanks guys for doing this and letting some of us be involved in this do-good-ery.
  • So, I did take a few pics from the Burrito Project. They are located here. There's only 7 as we (at least my group) were walking around the city for about 2 hours trying to hand out burritos. We couldn't find any homeless people, which is probably a good thing if you think about it.

I also got some pics and vids at the Apple Store. They boys put on an excellent acoustic set as usual. Pics are here. Below are the vids:
    Shooting the Moon
    DWYW
    OLISQ
BFK (Shh, don't tell Dan that Tim is playing faux drums.)
    Last Leaf
HIGA (They "have" to play it. I "had" to record it.)

It was a short sweet set. 6 songs and then out we went.
  • ^ thanks for the vids...
  • Ms.Becky, can we get a detailed recap of the Burrito Projec, etc, purty please? Unless you don't want to ruin the perfectness of it, in which case I understand.

    P.S Thanks for the vids!
  • I'll see what I can pull together tomorrow.
  • Becky, your picture with Tim is awesome. That is all for now!
