Manchester review and stuff

edited November -1 in OK Go
Right, I've just got in from seeing them play in Manchester - I'll write a proper review when I've got a bit more time later - but suffice to say they were amazing! I'd not seen them before and I was very impressed! smile.gif Everyone seemed to be loving it. Here's a set-list:

Do What You Want
No Sign Of Life
Here It Goes Again
Don't Ask Me
Let It Rain
Bye Bye Baby
A Good Idea At The Time
Don't Bring Me Down (ELO cover)
Television, Television
Get Over It
The Fix Is In
Oh Lately It's So Quiet
Invincible
It's A Disaster
You're So Damn Hot
A Million Ways DANCE!!! Awesome! biggrin.gif

It was quite an eventful night - not everything went so smoothly again! I know someone who got some photos so I'll try and post them sometime too.

The first support band Envy & Other Sins were great as well, but I wasn't too impressed with The Bright Space. Anyway, more to come later...

I am on my toes in anticipation!
  • I'm glad you had a good time, rich.
I love the way OK Go entertain the crowd. Totally amazing.
Did you go with no company after all?
  • Hey Some Photos for your enjoyment.

I have more if people want them get in contact on the msg board.
  • the bright space were first twice when i saw them, and Envy were first once. And Envy were muuuuuch better haha. And they looked cooler too, awesome hats and braces all the way!!
  • I thought the gig was great! Saw em once before at the Northampton Soundhaus couple of years back and they were even better, apart from Damians little temper tantrum!

Incidently I was right at the front when he pushed the mic over, it swung narrowly missing my head! Found it a bit hard to get back into it after that admittedly, his strop did seem to come a bit out of nowhere but looking back there was the keyboard... the mic... the mic stand... everything went wrong. Get over it wasn't fun, it was just scary, but it was all happy after he apologised.

For the people who was there, I was the idiot who shouted "Encore!" after the second song biggrin.gif
  • Haha, brilliant! The 'Encore' dude!

I was a bit freaked after the tantrum, but yeah t'was great when he apologised.

'Get Over It' sounded even more aggressive because Damian was raging! Hehehe.
  • Damian threw another hissy fit?!? ohmy.gif

*tsk* rolleyes.gif That boy...I tell you what. laugh.gif

I felt the silence after that! My friends just sort of leered at me for a while and took a step back biggrin.gif

When did Damian have a temper tantrem? What was the cause of this alleged tantrem?

None of the equipment was working properly. Rustys mic kept squeeling, the keyboard didnt work so they had to leave out Don't Ask Me for a couple of songs (I had a nice view of the setlist), and Damians mic just started leaning 45 degrees towards the audience. then they took 2 songs to replace it. as the guy came on stage damian started playing the intro to get over it facing away from him. he'd done 8 bars or so, and the guy hadnt even started so he just shoved the guy off stage swearing at him. he went to rustys mic to sing it, knocking him out the way as he did, only for his mic to swing away from him as well.

    Not a happy band!
  • Hahahaha. laugh.gif It sounds funny, but I don't really think I would like to encounter an angry Damian. He might start swearing at me in an overly eloquent fashion, so I wouldn't know how to respond. I don't think I would like to see that side of the band.

Haha, aww bless! I loved the look of confusion on Damian's face when he heard you.

Yeah, it was a bit... weird seeing him like that. Like watching a highly-explosive substance and seeing if it'll blow or not.

Of course, he was great afterwards, charming and bloody hilarious!

Raging OK Go. Do you think they'd do death metal? Their one song - Dynamite - is pushing the aggression bar a bit.
  • Right, finally here is more about the Manchester gig...

After the first couple of songs there was a problem with the keyboard and it kept making really loud crackling noises, so while there was a hold up before the third song Damian just made a couple of jokes and didn't look too bothered.

Later on the gig he also got some money out and got someone in the crowd to go over to the bar and get a couple of double Jameson's! Classic!

Next Damian's mic stand broke and he got a bit pissed off as someone said earlier. Some random guy from the crowd even got up on stage at one point to hold it steady until they got a new one out!

Finally - just a quick bit about the support: Both were up-and-coming British bands, soon releasing their debut singles.

Envy And Other Sins were really catchy and quirky pop-rock, I suggest you check them out.

The Bright Space kind of reminded me of The Doves crossed with Stereophonics but I didn't really like them. Sounded like it had all been done before.

And yeah I did go by myself! Although I saw someone I knew at the gig, which was nice!

  • Oh, by the way... on the home from the Manchester gig I met two girls at the metro stop. I was chattin to them and they seemed really cool.

Just before I had to get off the met, I made a complete knob of myself in giving one of them my number to keep in touch...

...if by any chance that was you, or her mate from Leeds, get in touch!! Its not like its something I do everyday, or indeed ever before in my life, so obviously did want you to call.
