I GOT IN!!!

edited November -1 in General Discussion
Soooo, y'all probably didn't know, but I applied to go abroad to Paris for my junior year of college, and I just got my acceptance letter today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *HAPPY DANCE!!!!!!!!!!*

I'm sooooooooooo excited, the Smith JYA program is the main reason I applied to the college, and I can't wait to go abraod.

Also, this means I may be coming to visit some of you Brits while I'm "in the area," so to speak.

Also also, if OK Go does their continental Europe tour while I'm abraod, I will be even MORE excited!!!!

  • congrats chuck
  • That's so exciting! Congrats!

Are you going for the whole year?

I'm going to England or Ireland next spring so long as everything goes through fine.
  • Yeay, study abroad! Congrats!

Betty, it's too bad we'll be overseas opposite semesters next year. I'll be studying in Sweden this fall.

And hey, jedi_grrlie, if your junior year is next year, and the boys tour in the fall, I'll probably run into you! (No way I'm passing up cheap airline flights within Europe when I've paid a heck of a lot more over here)
  • YAYYYYYY PARIS IS SOOOOO FUN

    hooray

    smile.gif congrats
  • Thanks, everyone! biggrin.gif

It's a full year abroad, which is why I chose the program. One of my friends is supposed to be going to Ireland next year, and think he's going during the spring, so maybe we can meet up or something. biggrin.gif

Awesomeness! I really hope they hit Paris after October, or that they hit Marseilles in September. I think it's Marseilles...I don't remember. We do a month-long language program somewhere in southern France before starting classes in Paris, so if they go to Paris before I get there, I will be very very sad. sad.gif

    Also, Sweden sounds awesome.

I know, it makes me so sad ..I totally would've come to visit you. Damnit all, guess I'll just have to come out to Chicago this summer ..like I wasn't going to anyways. haha.

And of course we'll meet up! I love hanging out with people in Europe ...okay, so I've never done that before, but I'm sure I would love it!
  • you totally need to vist me
  • Yay, congratulations! You are going to have soooo much fun!

Is it a program where classes are taught in French? Or are they in English?

I'm applying for a JYA in Florence with classes in Italian...eek!

I'm planning on it! And if the guys come to play in Paris while I'm there (*crossing fingers!*), you need to come visit me and we'll see the show together and it'll be great.

Thanks. biggrin.gif All the classes are taught in French. We get to take classes at Reid Hall (not quite sure what that is...), and the Sorbonne, which is basically friggin' amazing. I'm a French major, though, so I really shouldn't have issues. I hope I don't, anyway.

Good luck with Florence! It's an absolutely beautiful, goregous city. I'm definitely planning on visiting there while I'm abroad.

I'm stealing this and informing you that I, also, will be totally visiting you. And if I'm in London, it'll probably be so much you'll be begging me to leave you alone.

    No, I kid.

We'll be like, the American/British Boardie contingent in Europe. It'll be spectacular.

Thanks, Jen. biggrin.gif I will definitely be making every effort to get out to see you. 'Course, this and all of my travel depends on my fundage...tongue.gif

I'm a little freaked out about housing, though, because we stay with host families, and everything I've read has been like, "THE FRENCH ARE VERY PROUD, DON'T EAT OUT OF THE FRIDGE, DON'T WALK ACROSS THE CARPET, DON'T SMILE AT THEM OR THEY'LL OSTRACIZE YOU!!!" I may just be freaking out over this for nothing, but....I really don't want an unpleasant living experience. I get along with people really well and I follow rules and I try to be polite, but I also want to be comfortable with where I live. mellow.gif
  • Well if youre that worried you can live with me (with no 'adult' supervision wooo hahaha) and get eurostar in everyday. tho thats clearly a poor idea. but atleast you can smile and eat out of the fridge at my place biggrin.gif

oh and the perception you paint of the french is weird. In england, the ummm, idea we get, without being offensive, is just that of 'smelly'.... hahaha

EDIT: ANYWAY when does this start? Like august or something?!

That may be a poor idea. But entertainable nonetheless. smile.gif

I'll be in Aix-en-Provence in September, and then I start classes/move into Paris in October. Smith always starts stuff later than everyone else.
  • OMG YOU'RE SO COMING TO MY 21ST BIRTHDAY PARTY!!!!

    HAHAHAHA!!!!

well, if you're around for, i think i'm gonna have it 2nd weekend of october.... and its gonna be fancy dress biggrin.gif hehehe

and just so you know... the last 2 years, OKGo have been in the Uk VERY close to the end of september/early october..... excitement!!!!
