    OK, finally

Why MTV darlings OK Go no-showed the American Royal Barbecue: The record label V.P. said OK Go’s gear was too heavy for the charter airplane.

Local promoters say no way the band could play a 1:30 p.m. gig at the Michigan-Michigan State football game and make the Royal that same night. Plus the show wasn’t listed on OK Go’s tour itinerary.

Now here’s OK Go manager Jamie Kitman’s take, by e-mail: “There’s nothing to be inferred from the failure to post the KC date on the band’s site.

“The show got canceled because there was a problem w/EMI corporate (the label) about the amount of insurance on the charter plane… which was the only way we could have gotten to KC on time to play. …

“Booking charters is rare enough that no one knew — until the last minute — that the flight needed $200 million insurance, and that wasn’t going to happen without several weeks’ notice. The important thing is, we’ll be back to Kansas City soon enough.”
  • Maybe they tried bringing 8 treadmils. Ya know, they can be heavy with all them amps and such. wink.gif

Sorry for those KC kids though.
