I *did* get to go to last night's concert. Cheli had told me that she'd try to get me on the list, and then she wasn't sure if she could, but said she'd call me back to let me know. Well, I never got a call, and it drove me semi-insane over the course of the day, thinking I was going to need to leave work early to make it in time. I called Adam to whine about it towards the end of the day and he said "why don't you go anyway? Even if there aren't tickets there for you, you've got other friends going to the show sitting on the lawn. You can just get lawn seats and sit with them." So I left work on time and actually made it to Merriweather Post Pavillion JUST as Mae was finishing their set.
I walked up to the box office and told the guy "I *might* be on the guest list, but if not I'll just buy a lawn seat". The guy called my name in and soon produced for me two Pavillion Seats! So I called Amy to tell her I was there, had her meet me by the divider, and gave her my second ticket. They let her into the pavillion and we went to our seats. Row Q Center, 117 and 118 (two lucky numbers for me, I might add). These seats were INCREDIBLE, Guys. INCREDIBLE. We were maybe 10 rows back from the pit, dead center. The guys came onstage maybe 2 minutes later and Amy and I stood up, alone, and Cheered!! The guys started throwing out the tamborines and Andy DEFINITELY threw one to me. I *almost* caught it, but it deflected off my fingers. However, the girl who go to it gave it to me!! So now I have TWO OK Go Tamborines!!! I played that thing the WHOLE show! Damian shouts "Good Evening Baltimore Washington DC Metropolitan Area!" and Amy and I CRACKED UP. The first songs were pretty banter free, but Damian did a LOT of talking about politics, being that we were just outside DC. Apparently the guys spent some time on Capitol Hill yesterday. My Google Alerts sent me an article about it, I saved the link on my computer at home and will post that later. Damian also discussed an idea he had for the area - apparently right between Seattle and Tacoma, Washington, there is a city called Seatac (SEA -TAC). Therefore, he proposed that right between Baltimore and Washington there be a town called "Balwash". Ball Wash. Brilliant, dear. Brilliant. Oh, also, Damian commented that the only people who actually knew Don't Bring Me Down must either be Old or Nerds. I cheered.
Yes, they did sing Happy Birthday to Tim, and presented him with a chocolate cake onstage - the WHOLE CREW came out to celebrate. I recognized the merch girl who had been with them at my last Philly show onstage. One guy came out filming everything, wearing nothing but Red briefs. No Lie. Damian came out into the crowd and sang led us all in singing from the end of OUR ROW. For a moment I was even wondering if he was going to come over to us! Damian got back onstage and gave Tim a hug. It made me all happy. :-D
The crowd this time was a lot better. No one gave us a hard time about standing and dancing. We had lots of fun. Of course everyone got up and danced when Damian said "Fuck the people behind you and dance!" Great show, and the guys all hugged Tim onstage after they took their bows.
After the set we went and met up with my friend Stef who just moved to Arlington, VA, and who was born to be friends with Amy. Seriously. It turns out they live 10 minutes' walking distance away from one another. Stef had never heard OK Go before, but she'd seen them on the VMAs and heard me blather on about them. But she is now a Fan. :-D I am so happy that I got to see Stef AND that she's now an OK Go convert! Amy and I gave Stef and her friend Denise our Pavillion seats so that they didn't have to sit on the lawn, because it was starting to rain a bit.
There was no visitation after the show, although we did see the guys from afar. Amy got to see THE SHORTS. :-D Then we had a bit of an adventure getting Amy back to her car, which was in the same parking lot that I was in, although we thought there was another lot. Which was crazy and funny.
Amy's got pictures, she'll post them this weekend. :-)

I'm glad you got in, and that it was such a good show! it sounded like a ton of fun.
And I'm glad they got a good crowd for Tim's birthday.
some things do work out after all =)
I wasn't online to I was texting Pandy going "Is Rachel online? When was she last on? Does it work out, might she be there then, coz of time differences???"
Hehehe
Aww the hugging is sooo cute, I hope he had a great time
And I love how you write 'Fan' with a capital letter >.<
Glad you go to go and that the crowd was better and all.
I love it when people are nice. There was this one time when I was at a Ben Kweller show and I was trying to grab a set list off a monitor, but the stage was too tall and there was no one onstage that I could ask. Then this really tall guy takes the set list and walks away and I was clearly trying to get it. So sad.
I am, however, jealous of that blog writer. How do these random ppl get backstage passes?!
but yes, i went last night and it was FANTASTIC as always. my seat was about the worst it could get, almost in the last row, but that didn't stop me from having a great time! so i didn't get any decent pictures unfortunantly.
rachel and amy - you're so lucky to have had such wonderful seats! i bet it was absolutly amazing that close.
