Neil Gaiman is my man. His lyrics are so fab :) and Ben with a piano can do no wrong.
BUT. still gotta say my fave would be "One Tiny Thing" - nobody tops Damian's vocal delivery (sorz i know i might offend quite a few ppl, but srsly amanda palmer CANNOT SING. i love her creative/artistic spirit, but her singing really ruins it for me) and his performance at the concert was just. so. beautiful. I love the simplicity of his songs these days, and how much his voice really stands out from it all. Makes me feel so emotional every time i hear his voice, and now I can't stop listening to it (ive already streamed his bit 6 times in a row)!
And for those who've missed the concert, here's a recording for streaming: http://ustre.am/:XZSP
Sounds like you had a good time even though you missed the #WildDamian, Rachel! I'm glad to hear it. I missed the fezzes are cool thing too, even though I was watching the feed. Le sigh.
I prettymuch agree with you, Jolean. I like Amanda's stuff, but her voice just doesn't really do it for me. Although I thought she did the song she played on the ukulele (I don't know the name, sorry) perfectly.
I can't decide which song is my favorite. It's definitely between Because the Origami, One Tiny Thing, and Twelve Line Song, though.
Edit- LOL, I only just realized I basically started this post off with HIGA. I didn't even do it on purpose. I am so amused.
No I doon't! Does someone know where to find the lyrics?
Also, the streaming was great. I only saw 4 hours of it and I basically died at the moment Ben Folds said 'we'll get the rest of the 6 by the end' or something like that. I was like 'this is going to be 3 songs in 100 hours' because they're so awesome and perfeccionists. but I regret not seeing the ukelele playing. but I had to sleep. I was dying.
also, One Tiny Thing is really my favourite. I liked Nikola Tesla a lot too, and I get why Amanda sang that one, but her voice really is kind of annoying, sorry. She doesn't sing, she just sort of screams all the time...but it's weird. it's like her voice wants to come out and then all we hear is.. that.
Amanda also tweeted chords for some of the songs, which have been released under a Creative Commons licence. In addition to asking people to do videos for the songs, they were also encouraging people to do covers.
For "One Tiny Thing" it was: "verse: Am. Am over Ab, G, F#. chorus: Dm, C, Ab dim, Am, Bdim, B/C/E/Ab cluster over B"
For "Nikola Tesla" it was "C intro. verse C&G over F, G, Ab, Bb. chorus C, CoverE, F, Eb. bridge Ab/Db"
8in8 now has a whole site of its own HERE, including video of the panel and performance, plus fan art, covers, and fan-generated videos.
If you haven't yet seen any of the art generated in response to the songs—and even if you have—take a look at them gathered in one place.
It's inspiring to see the range, the humor, and the inventiveness of the collection so far. And you might find yourself inspired to add something of your own.
As for my favorites among the songs, I love "Because the Origami" and "One Tiny Thing." Gotta be careful where I listen to "Because the Origami," though, as the line "We left your room exactly, exactly" brings tears to my eyes every single time. NSFD/not safe for driving.
I have favorites now among the videos too—the "silent film" version of "Problem with Saints," Fongolia's "12 Line Song," and the new Jacobson family "Because the Origami." I don't think the latter is on the 8in8 page yet, but you can find it on Amanda's blog.
I'd be really interested to hear what reactions people have to the videos, and the other fan art as well…
Edit: random paragraph breaks appearing in the formatting... think I fixed it...
I really want to make a video, but I just don't have the time/inclination. If I were able to draw, I'd probably find the time, but I can't even draw stick figures.
The Fongolia video had me a little queasy when they interspersed the bird getting hit by the baseball in mid-air and then all the other furry tragedies.
It's interesting to see people's different takes on the music. Some are awesome and some you just wonder why they went with what they did.
Thanks for posting the pics, Rach. Sorry to hear people are posting without giving credit where credit is most certainly due. Or at least linking back to where they found the pic.
Sadly this happens for just about anything you post on the internet. Ever thought about watermarking your pics? It's another freaking annoying step, but it'll solve the problem of crediting the photographer. Unless of course the poster crops the photo, but then it looks stupid.
Meh, there is no winning.
Still, thanks for posting your pics! I was about to ask which song Damian was playing the guitar for and then I realized he sang Last Leaf. I still think he should have done Needing/Getting. In that setting, he could have totally pulled it off. Oh well.
It's just the Tumblr mentality. There's a link to where they found it, but it's listed as just "From Flickr." Would it freaking kill them to say "From DJRoxieRose's Flickr?"
What I think I may start doing is just posting them in FB albums exclusively from now on, and only letting the boardies I'm friends with see the photos.
That would suck because FB tends to squish and squash photos and make them look like ass. Not to mention all the people that would then miss out on them.
Do what you gotta do. They're your pics and I know how flipping annoying it is to not be credited.
Okay, now I feel weird. I was led to your Fllickr stream earlier tonight by http://fuckyeaokgo.tumblr.com/ 's link, saw it was you, squee-ed, posted a couple of your pics on my tumblr stream with credit to you and links (and thanks).
Of course! I saw the reblogs that you and TG42 did, and was thrilled to see someone crediting me properly. I wrote to the FYOG folks and asked them to credit the work properly, but haven't heard back yet. You guys are the best for getting the proper credit out there.
Edit: I just saw that they posted more photos, still without the proper credit, so I'm making the album private until they fix it. I don't know that it'll fix the problem, but it's something. I'm perfectly happy to be friends with anyone who asks on Flickr, so just send me a request and I'll accept.
Finally. They credited the photos. Granted, it took THREE DAYS and a lot of back and forth (really unnecessary back and forth too, if you ask me), but the FYOG kids finally gave me credit. They put my tumblr name on, and not the screenname underwhich that flickr is registered, but fine, whatever, credit is credit and I just plain don't have it in me to argue it with them anymore.

It's really sad that I only got to see like, 25 minutes of the concert. Did anything exciting happen with the #WildDamian?
Do you all have the lyrics, too? Well, for those who have an iPhone/iPod Touch.
I think my favorites are One Tiny Thing, Twelve Line Song, and The Problem With Saints.

Her twitter is @amandapalmer
Because the Origami is really amazingly done, and really sad
And Nikola Tesla is an awesome idea but Amanda Palmer's voice really kinda bothers me in that... >>

Smooches. I'm tired, and so behind scheduled. But I love you guys.
Edit: What I do *not* love, though, is posting photos so that they can be reposted all over without credit.
