Complete Train lyrics?

edited November -1 in OK Go
Does anyone have complete lyrics to Unrequited Orchestra of Locomotion?  All of the ones on the Internet are incomplete.

Also, who sings the chorus?  I know it's either Tim or Andy, because in the live version you can hear Damian singing in the background.

  • It sounds like Tim and Andy harmonizing in the chorus, actually.

I have no clue about the lyrics, sorry about that.

Also, does anyone know what the song was from?  I heard somewhere that it was on a demo tape, but I have never heard of a second demo tape after Six Song Demo.  It is also one of their best songs, and yet nothing was ever done with it, LP-wise.
  • Okay, let's see if the math problem is fixed...  If it's not, I think I will have officially developed a complex regarding basic addition.  ;)

Here are the lyrics I have compiled for the Unrequited Orchestra of Locomotion, taken initially from one of those incomplete lyrics on the internet and then filled in with what I think I hear.  I don't think it's completely correct, but I figure that if I post it here, others can correct anything they know I have wrong, and maybe some of the pieces I have will fill in some of the right blanks for you.  ...Oh, and also, I didn't record all of the variations of the "give the ocean motion" line that occur in the studio version of the song, since it's not the same between for both versions and is relatively easy to hear.

As for who's singing the chorus, I, like Moose, think it's both of them, Chips.  I think I can faintly hear a second voice underneath the dominant one in the live version, and in the studio version, I definitely hear two voices singing the chorus with Damian singing the other line during.

    Anyway, the lyrics now!

    _________

This is not the sound of the train

Lemme tell you about this big abyss thing

    Everybody says that they’re listening

It’s the unrequited orchestra of locomotion

It's not the job that I blame

White coal in the slick of the rain

    Crescendo of an inclined plane

Corduroy flannel over your head like a stain

Check your watch, no two are the same

Perhaps you’ll notice how they always complain

Sweet nexus so smooth and profane

These ain't no sounds of no train

Not those screeching breaks I’m hearing

Or rusty tires that got me tearing

It’s the unrequited orchestra of locomotion

    Come on everybody locomotion

(If it ain't broke, you cannot fix it)

This is not the sound of the train

I guess we already talked about the orchestra and the train

Take this needlepoint man by the frame

Lockstop buying horse by the vein

There'll be no weak link in this chain

These ain't no sounds of no train

This is not the sound of a train

These are no sounds no train

    Come on everybody locomotion

(If ain't broke, you cannot fix it)

Everybody feel the motion of the ocean

That is about as close as anyone will come to getting those lyrics right.

About the chorus, I had only listened to the studio one and the live one NOT 9/23/00, so I figured that there was one, overdubbed vocal track in the studio and at the time I couldn't hear the second one in the live version I had been listening to.  However, once I listened to the 9/23/00 version, it seemed more like there were two voices.
