So a close friend of mine who was psycho enough to join the Marines is on his 30day leave after a tour of Iraq.
"At one point myself and a group of 4 other guys were trapped in a cemetary in Ah NahJaf, with mortars falling down from every direction. As the sun went down we had to find cover to stay alive during the night so we ended up having to bust open a couple of the above-ground crypts and sleep with rotting corpses overnight. Had it not been for the cement cielings of the crypts a couple of us would have not made it out the next day.
Sometimes we were faced with the opposite situation, in which we were raiding a town and patroling a cemetary that the insurgents were hiding in. We would walk silently thru and you could here them whispering in the crypts. Regardless of wether it was actually insurgents or citizens hiding in them we just pulled a pin on a gernade and tossed it in, cause in that life or death situation you cant take any chances.
It hits you the most when you see small children in the street and they pull guns on you. You only have one option, and that is 'to live'.
Im only 19 years old and Ive killed people. People who have tried to kill me. People who have killed my friends. People who were in the wrong place at the wrong time. People who know nothing but death. People. "
During his 30 day leave hes come home to visit the child he has never seen. After that they are sending him back to Camp Pendelton for 4 more years, where he will most likely be sent back to Iraq for 2-3 more tours of duty.
