  • Email I sent to friends about show last night (I hadn't seen OK Go before, silly me...):

Last night, f***ing fantastic show. I'm amazed -- they've got one album, I have it, love half and think the other half's good, but their show is so much better than their album. Man, I will now see Ok Go every and any time I get a chance. They're like a mini-Sloan.

So, first off, this band is cute! I wanted to bundle them up and take them home. All wearing ties, lead singer in a red pants/striped shirt/striped tie/really big and sparkly tie tack and cufflinks ensemble. Not annoying or forced at all -- very cool.

The music was great – solid, energetic power pop that sounds louder, harder and better live than it does on record. And I like the record. This is when I first started thinking of them as a mini-Sloan -- I think they've got that in them. The lead singer, who was obviously battling a cold or blossom-induced allergies, soldiered on with energy, stage and drum kit jumps and a sense of humor. He reminded me of an indie David Cassidy (YOUNG Cassidy, and indie!).

Encore -- full-on Brady Bunch Variety Special choreography. I was enthralled – and on a Sunday, which is a terrible day for a show. And late – they didn’t go on until 11:30 or so.

Place was about half full, but the crowd that was there was dancing and clapping a lot. I was just about at the back of the packed-in part of the crowd, and behind me it looked more like a dance club than a concert. Lots of fun. And a Sunday, for goodness sake!

I liked Army of Me as well. I would definitely catch them again, though they’re no Ok Go.
  • wow that was my first OKGO concert i've been to and i was uterly amazed! first off damian looked so hott in his red pants and tie! and i really liked the new guitarist andy, i thought he did a fabulous job! there was so much energy at the show it was just...just...awesome. biggrin.gif

I had heard so much about the dance that they do at the end of the show and i had been dieing to see it and im so glad i finally did! it was the funniest most awesomest thing ever. they are a truely clever band.

i took pictures on my camera phone but u cant see anything so its kinda not worth it but thats ok.

Army of Me and The Sun also did a great job! kudos to them.
  • splendiferous show, I'll go into detail later and I'll post my pics and the video of the C-c-c-cinnamon Lips dance as well. suffice to say for the moment that it was one of the most fun shows I've been to in a really long time.
  • OMG, DAMIAN TALKED TO ME ON THE PHONE!!! EEE!

Sorry. One of my friends went to go see the DC show last night, and he was hanging out after the show and talking to me on the phone, and next thing I know, he's like, "Hey, Damian! My friend Katy is on the phone, she saw you up in Northampton!"

    And Damian says, "Hi, Katy!!!"

So it wasn't like a real phone convo or anything. It's just amusing. :-D

So I wasn't really at the DC show, but I heard it was amazing and tons of fun from Alex. *bounces off*

    Ooh, video, yes!

Any other concert reports from DC?

    Thanks!

  • Saw OK Go again in DC. Soooo fun. My friends and I were standing right in front of Damian, and I must say, it was slightly embarassing because some of my friends were being quite obnoxious. I know many people were annoyed by us. Anyways, I was really excited because they played Return, which they skipped in Pittsburgh.

At one point in between songs, Damian was talking about the new album. It's called "Oh No" and he said it in this funny, high-pitched way. And when Damian announced that Rusty had broken a string, and TOTALLY by accident I said "Oh no!" like Damian had said it. So Damian says, "Yeah, when I said that, somebody said 'Oh no!'" and I got really excited and said "That was me! That was me!" and Damian turned to me and was like "Yeah, that was clever." or something. But yeah that was a fun part of the show.

Again, I thought OK Go sounded AMAZING. They have such a great stage presence and so much energy. I thought they sounded even better live than on the CD. It was definitely one of the best nights of my life.

I took about 60 pictures of the concert. Here's the website: http://kaizupitis.photosite.com/ok_go_dc/

There are some from the Les Miserables skit, too. I tried taking pictures during the dance to C-C-C-Cinnamon Lips, but my camera has a delay, so it was really hard. But mostly the pictures are just during the songs and stuff.

Also, check out my friend's site. She has a lots of pictures of the opening bands, The Sun and Army of Me, as well as before the show and during the show.

    I heard him do that.

The show was highly entertaining, perfect old-to-new-song ratio but I want the new album NOW. I think either No Sign of Life or Television was my favorite of the new songs, but I'll have to hear them all again to decide. Andy is awesome at guitar...damn! I wish I could play half as well. I wrote an article about the show for my school paper, I can post it if anyone wants me to. Damian was really nice afterwards also, I wish I'd gotten to talk to the other guys as well.

Here's a link to my photos, and if anyone can tell me a site that allows video uploads I'll post the dance as well.
  • I would love to read the article you wrote! Nice pictures, by the way!

I'm not sure of a site that allows video uploads. Does yousendit.com allow people to send videos? Maybe you could try there.

  • Awesome pictures! I thoroughly enjoyed perusing them biggrin.gif And I would love to read the article that you wrote!
  • this took me a while to post...here's my article:

With incidents ranging from bizarre stories to hilarious dances, audience members loved the show by Ok Go at the Black Cat on April 10. Opening bands The Sun, from Ohio, and DC natives Army of Me had entertaining sets, which included a Boyz II Men sing-along, an onstage marriage proposal, and a momentary lapse of memory by the lead singer of Army of Me. The night was dominated, however, by the high-energy set of Chicago popsters Ok Go, whose set list was a combination of old material and songs from the band’s upcoming album, Oh No.
Ok Go kept the crowd moving and entertained with fast-paced songs and witty quips between tunes that went well with their brand of bouncy power-pop. The group performed for just over an hour, playing crowd favorites including their first single “Get Over It” while introducing new songs like “Let it Ring.” The band is devoted to having fun and ensuring that audience members have a great time as well, so when guitarist Rusty Ross broke a string halfway through the set, lead singer Damian Kulash and guitarist Tim Nordwind performed part of a scene from the musical Les Miserables, to the amusement of fans.
One of the best moments of the show came during the encore—a choreographed dance routine performed by the band to the tune of one of their songs that was far better than any dance done by a boy band in the 90s. It epitomized the fun-loving spirit of Ok Go and was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
Expectations are high for the new album, which is tentatively due out in July. The new songs the band played continued the dance-pop vibe of earlier material, with just as much fun and distinctiveness as previous songs like “Hello, My Treacherous Friends” and “1000 Miles Per Hour.”
“Someone said that the new album sounds like a band falling down the stairs, and it seems to be like that to me,” said Kulash. “Another friend told us that what will probably be the first single sounds like our guitars just can’t stop exploding. We all pretty much agree with those two friends.”

and the video is on that yahoo email from the live songs post.
