edited November -1 in General Discussion
So the foo fighters are doing a tiny tiny mini-tour thing in the UK in like december. and its been a long time i'ev been waiting to see them (outside of a festival atmosphere anyways, i'm seeing them in like 2 weeks hehe) ANYWAYS so I'm thinking yay I can buy my tickets tomorrow morning (i was thinking this last night lol, so today) and then i realised that IM IN GREECE on the 17th december. Its really not fair. I mean, obviouslly, I'll be in Greece, so that'll be pretty cool. But it's no Dave Grohl with my lovely lovely Futureheads supporting *cries*

Just at astoria, i would like, be able to feel dave grohl's breath on my face hahaha
  • me going to see them soon!

    yay for us
  • I bought my tickets this morning for the Kaiser Chiefs, Weezer, Foo Fighters show in Chicago on October 3. I'm really psyched--it will be the fourth time I'll get to see KC this year. Plus, it will be good to see Weezer again, since seeing them at Lolla didn't really count because we were so far back (although the big group singalong with thousands of other fans was pretty fun). And Foo Fighters are just plain awesome. Dave Grohl is a living legend. And hot. I can't wait.
  • my friends get to go. they got 10th row seats. i envy.

foo fighters are amazing live. completely worth everyyy penny. dave grohl is a music god. they sound better live than on cd. and they put on an amazing performance. you will not be disappointed.
  • Does anybody have their new album? I got it recently but have been having issues getting it to play on my MP3 player. Any suggestions?
  • it plays fine on mine...

i love the cheifs... ur so lucky, u get to see three awesome bands.
sadly i've never seen weezer or the foo fighters live, but i saw the kaiser chiefs this summer they're amazing .. ricky's got incredible stage presence and they play w/ such energy... ur gonna have loads of fun at that show... let us know how it is
  • I CROWD SURFED TO LEARN TO FLY!!!!!!!

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

omg it was so amazing. Everyone should try it lol.
Their set was undeniably wonderful, with a little swutchage of taylor and dave for one song, think its on the new album, but I didn't actually listen to it yet haha. Should really get round to that.

Anyways, you guys who have shows coming up, have so much fun, they're so awesome!!!!
  • I'm also seeing the Weezer/Foo Fighters/Kaiser Chiefs show in October, and although it is an impressive line-up, I must admit I'm only really excited to see the Kaiser Chiefs again. Weezer's first couple albums are great but they're not exactly the most dynamic live band, you know?

As for the Foo Fighters, those of you who are into them and Dave Grohl, I have a question....years ago I read an article in Newsweek about activists who believe that HIV is not the cause of AIDS, and who are against HIV testing and AIDS medications. It was a pretty extreme movement- there were HIV-positive people interviewed who weren't even getting their children tested, for instance, because they believed that it's medication and lifestyle that causes AIDS symptoms. The Foo Fighters were cited as active supporters of the movement, and I think they may have even had a quote from Dave Grohl in there. Does anyone remember this? Has anyone heard about it since? I would like to think that they've recanted, but I haven't heard one way or the other. It really, really bothered me, and I haven't bought a Foo Fighters album since.
  • i don't really understand why that'd make you not want to buy their music, because well, just cos they believe something you don't agree with, doesn't mean that they're bad. I sort of half understand what they would be campaigning against. I have quite, what would be classed as 'radical' views about aids. and I'm not gonna cite them on the board cos, well, its not the place to do it.

you should enjoy them, they really are incredible!
  • Wow... i never knew that about them. And now that i do i hate them even more. From what i can make out its mostly Mendel who is behind the whole thing, but its jus ridiculous. Basically saying that if you have HIV then taking drugs to help prolong your life will eventually give you the Aids virus and kill you? Thats almost saying 'dont worry about unprotected sex'

For a band who are seen as fairly intelligent and influential they are treading some very muddy ground, and in my opinion are falling for some stupid theory which is based on no evidence and all speculation and trying to pump it into others.

Well, it may not mean that they're bad people, or that they make bad music, but it may mean that I don't want to buy their albums. As I mentioned, at the time they were actively supporting the movement, making statements to that effect and even performing in a benefit for the cause. Since I feel strongly about not disseminating misinformation about HIV & AIDS, I would feel very strange about supporting a group that does just that.

I mean, it's also a very personal reaction- imagine discovering that a band you like happens to believe in white supremacy, or in forced sterilization of the poor. Something you consider absolutely egregious. Wouldn't you have a hard time listening to their music after that? True, it doesn't affect the quality of the music, but it may affect your response to it.
  • yea I guess..... but I only heard this today from you, so it hasn't really affected my opinion, maybe if I looked into it a little more it'd piss me off, but then I've had their new album since it came out and I haven't listened to it yet, SOOOOO hah, I don't really think anything else would matter.

    I understand what you mean.

EDIT: me and my friend charlotte have a list of words that we adore, some of them are really stupid and random, and egregrious is in it. And it made me smile hehe.
  • Well they don't seem to be advocating for the cause anymore at least, and overall the band does some good stuff, as with their involvement in the Kerry campaign. Mendel, who as Revolver mentioned was pretty much behind all this, personally donated $1000 to Kerry as well. So you know, I guess they do more good than harm these days.

Random sidenote- has anyone ever played with www.fundrace.org? They've compiled a lot of the 2004 presidential campaign donation information & made it searchable by address and name. It's totally stalker if you use it like I do, looking up anyone you've ever known or heard of, but definitely a great way to pass time at work. In case anyone was wondering, Damian gave the max $2000 to Kerry. Yay!

Speaking of words, does anyone else think that "A Million Ways" has the greatest concentration of awesome words ever? Talk about visceral reactions- I swear it almost makes me shudder sometimes, the words have such great form & tenor. The only way it could be better were if it included "specious," as I originally thought it did. "Specious" totally rocks.
