Here's from PunkROCKS.net (anyone ever heard of them? ... me either). If you guys got so upset about the Rolling Stone review, this one will have you fuming.
Did anyone actually buy this band's 2002 self-titled debut? I just sort of assumed this band broke up before the record even came out or soemthing based on how little advertising and hype I saw for it, especially considering how expensive it sounded. The record was cool, but only had about 4 solid tracks and a lot of filler. Fast forward to a few months ago and a few tracks appear on the band's myspace, and I'm already stoked for their record.
Well, they did it again. The songs on their myspace are the only good songs on this record. In fairness, they are really good songs - these guys know how to write a sassy pop rock song as well as anyone, they just seem to invest so much effort in the singles that they forget that they've got to write a whole album of hits if they want to be famous. The video for their new single "A Million Ways" is hilarious, and I've heard they put on a great live show, but this record frustrates me a little that I have to restart it halfway through so often.
Instead of going down the same squeaky clean Lord-Alge mixed path, the band elected to work with the same team that brought you the enormously successful Franz Ferdinand record, since that's what kids like these days (right?). The production is one of the coolest elements of the record; it has a very live feel to it, and there aren't a lot of extraneous vocal and guitar tracks. It almost sounds like a live radio performance. The tracks "Invincible" and "Do What You Want" are awesome danceable pop rock tunes in the vein of the Strokes or Hives, but with a bit more pop cheeriness, and the production really compliments their style.
This record has a lot of great qualities, but unfortunately I can't say it's worth the price for anyone other than huge fans of the first record. I'd recommend jumping on itunes and downloading the singles; listening to them over and over is a lot more fun. http://www.punkrocks.net/display_review.php?id=1008Anyone find any good reviews?

Sound: Well I was lucky enough to get an advance preview of this album and it's good. A definate progression from their first album after the depature of their second guitarist. The sound is more mellow but they can still kick it out when needs be (Do What You Want, Invincible). Damian has an amzing gift for being able to sing in a high pitch voice without anoying people (saying that I'm a big fan of Co&Ca).
Lyrics: The lyrics are just as impressive as on the last album. They don't just put words that rhyme together and hope it sounds good. They have a story running though almost all tracks from space aliens to disasters. This ability to write "funky" melodies in some part must be thanks to Damiens degree in semiotics.
Overall Impression: Overall this album is great to have on at parties or to listen to by yourself when you have nothing to do. stand out songs for me have to be: A Million Ways, Do What You Want, Invincible, Oh Lately Its So Quiet. The band have not been able to punch through really into the mainstream areas of music (i.e. the charts) with any really success. Though hopefully this album will put an end to that with some really catchy tunes that should be unleashed on the world.
Whomever wrote that should be castrated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So I'm a snob! Next!
I have to second that comment, learn to spell before you lay in on someones songwriting skills....sheesh, go listen to your Taproot CD
plus if the name of the site fits the music, ok go isn't very "punk"... so I kinda would've been surprised if the critic did like the cd. and he DID like the singles, so there's something.
