    Useless dental fact: if you see gum with xylitol as the main sugar in it, it will prevent cavities

    gum can actually PREVENT them or do they just not help towards the cause of them?
    because that's like space age shit..well..I mean..a lot of people would stop brushing their teeth and just chew that gum which would lead to more cavities...so then they shouldn't put that sugar on their b/c bycariasly...it will cause cavities...

    that's prolly just my twisted since of reality talking again but it makes sense in my mind.

    No no, your right. I should've spoken more clearly. Gum with xylitol in it doesn't prevent cavities, it just doesn't help towards causing them.

    The bacteria that cause cavities can't break down xylitol sugar. If they can't break down the sugar they can't make acid. The acid the bacteria release is what normally causes cavities.

    Ack, I'm being too sciencey

    Bottom line: you still have to brush your teeth no matter what. It's like dieting, there's no getting around it
