  • Nice to see some good press, but i dont really agree with any of the first paragraph. The comment about the first album being the same song over and over is ridiculous. The comment about the Killers is totally insane as well. But at least they like it.
  • Yeah
I'd say the first album is pretty diverse. Considering how the rest of the album sounded nothing like Get Over It. And then you have songs like Return and C-c-c-cinnamon lips which are completely different. Dont' know what cd that guy was listening to.
  • I love their first album, it was so refreshing to hear a band try different things on one album as opposed to finding a formula and sticking to it. Last band to do that in my eyes was Blur with 13. Bands these days seem to find their perfect formula and write songs to a catchy melody. Ok Go did that with the first three songs but not really much after that at all. But what did music reviewers know wink.gif they never get it right. They said Morning Glory would fail big time, now its in their top 10 lists
  • Haha yeah
I bought the CD, and I was super surprised to find it sound so differently from get over it... but I ended up liking it. I like cds that are different. When they all sound the same, you get bored.
  • Which brings us back to Coldplay!

    And how much they suck

    Brilliant!
  • Coldplay suck AND blow...
  • So that's the second review I've read that somehow compares Oh No to Spoon's Gimme Fiction. I bet that makes OK Go really happy, considering some of the guys are huge Spoon fans.
  • I love Spoon.
I missed their concert this summer. Which pissed me off. But seriously, who DOESNT love spoon?
  • oh i heart spoon as well...
i turn my camera on i cut my fingers on the way on the way the way i'm slippin away i turn my feelings off u made me untouchable for life and u wasn't polite
  • Ah well, I kinda like the new one, but hey, that's me...

Yeah, unfortunately that seems to be the norm for OK Go. I don't think the first disc was terribly well received by most critics either. Although the site (and critic) I posted seems to have done a complete flip.
  • I agree that this album or at least the producer is trying to mimic what he did with franz ferdinand and because of that this album and ok go are going to be linked with and compared to franz ferdinand.

Ok Go are jus not a band to be taken seriously in my opinion, they're jus a group of guys making fun music which they love playing live at shows. Bollocks to reviews, we dont want em!
  • why can't they be taken seriously and have fun making music? i'm sure they don't want to be "a band not to be taken seriously". maybe they're silly at times and can make fun of themselves, but they're definitely to be taken seriously, i think...

    Well said, Revolver.
And coincidentally, 13 is the only Blur's album that I have. It's brilliant.

Reviewers only value gloomy, knitted eyebrows kind of music. Losers!

So, Who trusts so-called music journalists' reviews? I always wonder whether they actually listen to the discs that they are writing about. I don't even give a shit if there were bad reviews of my favourite bands. Comments made by my friends and my ears are reliable, I think.
  • i dont listen to my friends about what bands they dont like. i just decide for myself.

I dont mean they're joke muscians by any means, for what they do they do it well! Its just reviewers seem to bring them down for that. Ok Go are never gunna write a Dylan-eque song or some political rant at George Bush - and good!! Ok Go are a fun band, and they're the kind band you stick on at a party and people are all going 'whos this then?'. Reviewers never look beyond what they hear, never listen to music beyond comparison with other bands.
  • hehe. well I think that I've learned from reviews of EVERYTHING that its personal preference. I LOVE the new album. I lovede the first album. For a very long time OK Go was the only band that I could listen to that I knew would definately make me feel good and happy.... So yea. hmmm. Their music is just beautiful. It seems I have like unconditional OKGo love, its sort of inexplicable... And everybody that I've shared my love of OK Go with have also turned out to love OkGo.... so that makes me believe that my opinion is right haha. biggrin.gif
  • I finally got Oh No yesterday. I know many boardies have already known it but I cannnot help shouting "What a super fantastic album it is!!!!". Three year waiting was not vain, now I'm so proud of being a OK Go fan smile.gif .
Their rough, tough, edgy, lively sound is kicking my ass. And how I love the combination of delightful melodies and a bit bitter lyrics. It's invincible, really. What's wrong with fun music? Pop songs have got the power!!

p.s. it was the election day in Japan yesterday, the result made me OH NO DAMN IT. Then I listened to Oh No and it lifted me a bit. I won't be beaten, I've got to get going.
