Marching band a sport?

So my boyfriend has found himself on NFL message boards lately and was telling me yesterday that Marching Band is a sport, I how ever disagree. I was always under the assumption that sports had like rules and guidlines... but I was wondering what you all thought?

    I don't necessarily think that Marching Band is a sport, even though it is awfully tough to march around while doing formations and playing your music. But there are rules and guidelines to Marching Band.

    Something similar to Marching Band that actually is a sport(in my mind) is Drum Corps. That is hardcore shit.

    You consider Drum Corps a sport but not marching band? How is that possible?

    I don't consider either a sport, but yeah, marching band definitely is not easy to do. It takes so much work to put a show together, but it's not about athleticism.

    I was in flag corps, which is just as physically demanding as marching band, more so in my opinion. However, when people asked me if I was in any sports... I still said no. I just thought it was silly that people were actually saying that it was a sport... but then I guess like Chess is in the olympics and I always assumed that the olympics was for sports only... and everyone is entitled to their own opinion

    Yeah, I was too (well we called it color guard) and I also didn't consider it a sport, though it was definitely hard and really tiring sometimes.

    yeah...marching band can be hard. but i don't think it's a sport...

    the only exception being the uw-madison marching band, i mean they high step their entire show. and just doing that for a little bit can get really tiring... so if i were in the uw-madison marching band, i would say that i'm in a sport.

    Hello? Haven't you guys seen DRUM LINE. Haha jk....I despise that movie (sorry to anyone that likes it!). Anyway, that movie really hyped up marching band, but it did look/sound pretty cool too at some points. Really I just don't like Nick Cannon, so that is my bias against the movie. If only Mr. Former 7up Guy could have made it better for me....

    About it being a sport...I guess it does require some sort of coordination. I wouldn't call it a SPORT...maybe a half-sport.

    The girls at my old school would always argue with the guys about cheerleading being a sport. I wanted to slap them silly. I didn't like them too much. I don't think cheerleading is a sport.

    I think cheerleading is more of a sport than marching band... but def. less of a sport than typing on the internet all day... That's some hard work!

    Couldn't agree more. I mean flipping people in the air, opposed to clicking a mouse? I think we all know which one requires more skill...

    HAHAHA I want to partake in that sport!!! I usually call little kids "satan spawn" when they are around me. I am going to be a crazy old hag who smacks children with the end of my cane when I'm old.

    Also, my theme song for myself is "I'm-a gonna go the hell when I die..."

    yeah, but it's not like they play against each other.....

    how do you consider bowling a sport and not marching band or cheerleading?
