Hi, what's your opinion on this question:
when a tree falls in the forest and there's no one there to hear it, does it still make a sound?

  • yes there is still a sound, because sound is like waves, and the sound waves are still created, or something like that, but it definatly makes sound
  • I saw a shirt that made fun of that when I was in New York. It went a little something like this:

    Realism: Shit happens.
Christianity: Shit happens to you because you're sinful.
Buddhism: What is the sound of shit happening?

    etc...

    FRAAAAAPPP

    (sorry)
  • is there anyway of knowing for sure? cause I thought that yeah, it makes the vibration still, but it's only a sound when it's interpreted by ears, so without ears it's just a vibration
  • Hey, let's debate something else. SOLIPSISM! Ready GO!

OH. When I was taking my practice SAT. (Thank the LORD this didn't happen during the real test) I started imagining everyone's heads exploding, and then the janitor came in and cleaned it up. I burst out laughing, and pissed people off. Very well, I might add...

But seriously, Solipsism is my favorite theory to debate. It really makes your head hurt. Look it up. Actually, here: Solipsism I don't expect you to read it all.

    And did you do well?
  • is SAT only in the US? I don't even really know what it is
  • I think it's only in the US and I think it's in Canada too. It stands for Scholastic Aptitude Test, and it's annoying.
  • Nope no SATs here

  • lol is it hard?? I live in canada but I go to french school so maybe that's why I don't know what it is.. we have this thing called OQRE though and I can't remember what it stands for, but I think it's just a test to check that we're learning what we're supposed to be learning.. something like that

I think it's a bit wonky --- that everyone else's subconscious doesn't exsist --- that all events, persons, thoughts have no meaning until it's applied to yourself?

The only true thing - the only true reality is yourself?

It seems a bit egotistical, although it is interesting to think about.
  • Which means that you are god.
  • are there some people who actually believe in that?
  • I don't know. It's just hard to think about, because you start to wonder if you're actually thinking it, or if someone else is making you think it with their subconcious mind.
