Ready? I'm going to go all existentialist on y'alls...
The reason humans are so scared to stand on the edge of a cliff is because we can never know what our subconsious is thinking and, deep down, whether we're suicidal or not, our subconsious could decide to take that step off. Since we don't know what our brain will do, we fear it.

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
I don't understand how that is existentialist at all...
It's basically an extension of Sartre's belief about how, unlike Freud's Id and Ego and Super Ego belief, one can never understand the subconsious since you can't think about what your mind is thinking because then you're thinking about thinking and so on and so forth.
And, since it's Sartre, I associate it with existenitalism, whether correct or not.
Though it is because it's a branch off of the existentialist belief that life is a consequence of one's own decisions in a chaotic world and nothing else...

I'm really tired.
But you do think well when you're tired, when I'm tired I stare blankly at things and don't speak correctly.
But that only lasts for about 15 minutes.
Otherwise, when I'm tired, I think the word "potato" is the funniest thing on the planet.
