(So I'm basically reposting this from my LJ for right now, because it's 1:45 am and I'm too EXHAUSTED to write something new...so Spongie, no snarky remarks
)
Okay, so, what's better than getting to see Franz Ferdinand and Death Cab For Cutie live in NYC?
Getting to see Franz live
twice in the same day.
What's better than getting to see Franz twice in the same day?
Getting to see one of those shows for free.
What's better than getting to see Franz twice in one day, one of those shows being free?
Getting to meet Alex Kopranos of Franz Ferdinand.
I found out yesterday that Franz would be playing a "secret" MySpace sponsored matinee show at the Hammerstein, so me and my brothers friends all went. It was pretty amazing, and I had a great time and took a lot of good pics because I was only about four or so rows back.
So on then, after I'd fought my way through a crowd of people to get free Franz posters, I'm walking out of the venue, and next thing I know, I hear someone talking with a strong Scottish accent behind me.
And I turn. And there's
Alex Kopranos two feet behind me.
So I got him to sign my poster and my brother's, and we were going to try to get a pic of him with us, but alas- by the time we could get back to him to ask him, the MySpace people were like, "MAAAAH GO BACK INSIDE SO WE CAN TAKE PROMO PICS!!!"
But, yeah. It's only just dawning on me that I got to talk to Alex Kopranos. Oh, and I shook his hand, too. And he seemed genuinely interested in talking to me, even though I probably said stuff he's heard 3 million times. And he called me "love."
Sometimes it pays to be a MySpace whore.
So, anyway, it was a really great time today. I'll let you guys know when I have pics and a full write up of the day's events up on my LJ. I think I took, oh, probably around 200 pics today, but a LOT of them are rather crappy, so I'll have to pick and choose.
But I just wanted to share my "Franz is awesome and I met Alex" story. And gloat a little, haha.

Normally I'm insanely jealous of anyone who lives close enough to some big city that they can get to MySpace shows, but you're cool enough that I'll allow it. That's such a great story, I'm glad you had such a ridiculously lucky and fun day!
I love Franz, I'm watching their DVD today just so you know. Glad you had a wonderful, no not wonderful, but fantasmic time, did the rest of your posse enjoy the show? How was the crowd???

I was actually surprised by the crowd, because I know you (was it you? Or was it tonetoile? I can't remember) had said that the Death Cab fans weren't dancing during the Franz set. So I was expecting kind of an eh crowd. But a good portion of the crowd was clearly there for Franz (they had the loudest cheering). And Death Cab rocked far more than I thought they would, in the sense that most of their music tends to be more mellow but they definitely "turned up" their live performance. If that makes sense... So, yeah. There was a good mix of listening and dancing, and got horribly sweaty and somewhat light-headed from dancing so much during Franz's evening set.
My brother's friends were with us at the afternoon show, and they seemed to have a really good time. My brother kind of didn't talk to me a lot when his friends left, though, which was kind of upsetting, because I wanted to, you know, talk to my brother. I'm assuming he enjoyed the show, though- he was behind me during most of it, so I couldn't see him, and he doesn't really dance, but I caught him singing along to some of Death Cab's stuff.
OMG! Don't tell me that! I have anxiety issues, and one of my biggest fears is passing out in a place where I can't get out or get help, like in the middle of a crowd at a concert. That's why I get light headed and woozy sometimes at concerts- I freak myself out and it only makes things worse.
I should have gotten my brother to take pics- he's 6'2" and I'm only 5'4". But I love taking pics at concerts, so I did it myself. Some of them came out really great, but a lot of them are really crappy. I need a new camera that can take video, too.
wow! 5'4" and 6'2" is a big difference heightwise, did he eat Miracle Gro as a child or something??? i'll send you some pics/video of the concert later on if you'd like, gotta go right now but will be back laters, you can PM me even though I haven't used PM before I think... i have technology phobia, sorry. Warning some aren't that great, it was my brother's first time to use my camera, so lots of shaky/random shots...
Everyone in my family is taller than me. My mom's 5'6", my dad's 6', and my brothers are both like, 6'2" (I think Ben might even be an inch taller than Jonathan). I'm the only one who got left behind.
5'4" isn't so bad, except 1) at concerts and 2) when you have a crush on a guy who's 6'4". That makes for some interesting situations.
