4/26/06 Northampton, MA show. Woot!
Hello, all! This is Special K, reporting back to you half-deaf from tonight's concert! (No, really. I really can't hear out of one ear, and my head is so addled right now that it's REALLY hard for me to type all of this.)
Tonight's show was pretty awesome, as per usual. Not the best I've been to, though, and I think that had a lot to do with the crowd. There were a lot of teenagers there, especially teenage guys who were clearly there because their girlfriends dragged them along. Not a lot of dancing, but I was bouncing away!
Also, I didn't take a lot of pics and not a lot of them with flash because the Pearl St. people have been notoriously bitchy about in the past.
But I did get a lot of good ones of Damian- he was right in front of me, and so close, I could have touched him.
So, the highlights from today's (or, rather, yesterday's show):
*Running into evey band member before the show. (Damian and Tim I passed on the way down the street to the club, Rusty came out of the front entrance while we were all waiting, and Dan walked by the line.)
*Getting to be in front, again. 'Twas awesome.
*The opening band, Fashion People, baked cookies for the crowd. It was pretty cute.
*The set was uber-long- something like 16 songs. And they did two encores- one where they came out and had us vote on "Prove My Love" or "Stay Up Late" ("SUL" won) and played "It's a Disaster," and then they did the dance.
*Meeting Elle, who is REALLY COOL. Hi, Elle!
*Getting to talk to the guys after the show, especially Dan and Damian. Elle and I kept running back to talk to Dan, because we love him that much. And Damian was really awesome. I'd gotten him an anti-Bush magnet that he really appreciated- apparently, he's going to stick it on his fridge when he gets back to L.A.
(I'd also gotten them a $10 gift card to Starbucks, which I know is nothing at Starbucks, but I just got a credit card bill and I don't have a lot of dollars. I gave that to Dan, though, because I knew that if I'd given it to Damian, he'd use it all himself. And he acknowledged that he would.)
*FANGIRL ALERT: After the show, Damian was wearing this lovely salmon pink button down, and clearly didn't have an undershirt on......
Heee. Sorry.
*Oh, yeah, and Damian recorded the voicemail greetings for my phone and Elle's phone.
'Twas totallly fangirlish and way awesome. (My roommate's already laughed at me a bunch, so I realise that it's rather silly, really. But if you want to hear it, PM me and I'll send you my phone number.)
*Lots of hugs from Dan and a really nice hug from Damian.
*Going back to talk to Dan again. Erica and I had left the venue already, when I realised, "Dammit! I'm not going to see these boys until September, and that's assuming they'll be in Europe! I'm going back to talk to them!" So I told the security guard that I'd left my keys behind (I'm pretty sure he saw through me, hee), and went back in the venue to find Dan sitting in an armchair. So he and I and Erica had a 10 or 15 minute convo about how the band has been together for like, 8 years and how they've gotten kicked out of peoples' houses before- because they're rockstars and all.
The lowlights:
*Ummm, talking to Rusty? REALLY AWKWARD. Can I just say. I always find that I have NO idea what to say to him.
*Like I said, the crowd- not too great. I would have appreciated more dancing.
*The bass was really loud at points and really drowned out Damian. But that could just be because I was standing right in front of a bass speaker.
*My (very low-cut) shirt kept falling down. I should have expected that, though.
*Andy wasn't wearing Denise's tie.
Actually, I didn't recognise any of the ties that had on, except for Damian's pink one with the white polka dots.
*MILOSH WASN'T THERE AND NOW I'M SAD. But I wrote him a note that I gave to Tim. So it works out, I guess.
*Apparently Dan can't put me on the guestlist for Dallas, in case I go visit Karleigh come June. Which sucks. But he will put me on the guestlist if they play Paris.
*KARLEIGH ALMOST DEAFENED DAMIAN! I'm NOT kidding. She happened to call me as I was talking to him, and I was like, "Damian, will you say hi to Karleigh?" figuring she'd be nice and just say "hi" back. Next thing I know, Damian puts the phone to his ear, says "hi," and then jerks the phone away and gives it this weird look. And then he does it again. KARLEIGH. PLEASE DON'T DEAFEN DAMIAN EVER AGAIN. kthnx.
*My head REALLY hurts right now. Really really.
General messages to all:
*Touring with Metric- probably not going to happen.
*Touring with MCS in Europe/UK- very likely going to happen, probably in September. *HAPPY DANCE!*
*Jen- Dan says "hi!!!"
Errr, I think that's all. I kept remembering stuff I wanted to tell them after I left, so now I'm sad. I also kind of wanted to be like *cough cough ping pong table in Park House cough cough* but I refrained.
All right. I have to go do the first part of this MAJOR PROJECT that's due tomorrow....that I haven't done....ugh....

Thanks for the update. Ah, I feel like I was there thanks to your description. Must be exciting to have the lads within walking distance of your school. You lucky girl.
Yeah, actually, as it looks right now, I'm probably not going to wind up going to TX in June anway. My dad seems to be sticking with the company, and it would really suck if he decided to switch like, three weeks before the trip.
haha the whole phone thing with damian, reminds me of the time i asked him to talk to my friend who couldn't go. haha i remember her telling me she was all in awe and it was hard for her to form sentences. lol damian was all shooting the breeze with her on the phone talking about the weekend and why she couldn't go and why she should come to see them and stuff. i thought it was funny.
Umm, that's totally good news! And now that I know where to get insanely cheap plane tickets, I'll be over there! Maybe we can convince them to come to Sweden with you to visit me.. spend some time reminiscing about recording the album!

I actually told Damian about you and me probably going to Malmo! I was like, "Do you remember Pam?" and he was like, "Errr....I don't remember names..." so I was like, "Well, you know her. Anyway, she's going to be in Sweden, so we're thinking of taking a really fangirlish road trip to Malmo." And he was like, "That's awesome! It's a really cool town!"

Sorry to tell you this, but OK Go will not be playing the June 7 show in
Phoenix. Our first show with them is June 9 in Cali. I know this probably
won't help, but the boys will be in Tucson on May 1.
