The Editors / We Are Scientists (10 May
@Club Quattro, Osaka)
At first, The Editors showed up. They changed a loose atmosphere in a moment, the audience was led to the mysterious world of The Editors. It was a flawless performance, particularly the bassist and the drummer were excellent. It seemed that the lead singer was inspired by strong emotions and passions. I've heard that they're good live, yes I agreed. But somehow their music didn't get me excited much. I see that The Editors and Interpol have something in common, and I like Interpol a lot tho. It's just a matter of my taste.
We Are Scientists were a whole lot of fun. They look like uncool post office clerks from countryside in some articles, but they looked quite cute on the stage. My friend Mari said that she fell in love with the lead singer. He took his belt off in first few songs, I was worried about his pants falling off. Umm, to tell the truth, I was a bit disappointed that it didn't happen
. I was standing in front of a lovely man on bass and I couldn't help staring at him. The more he was hard at singing the more his glasses were fogged and they slipped off his nose. It was adorable. And he has nice butt too
.
A good time passes so fast, you know, I wanted to see them play live much longer. I'm glad that both bands will come back for the music festival in August.
El Presidente (11 May
@Club Quattro, Osaka)
This five piece band, including two attractive ladies on drums and on keyboards, has lots of fans in Japan. Actually, "Rocket" and "Without You" were most played songs on local radio stations in January/Feburary.
Dante, the lead singer, was a good entertainer (I don't know why but I believe he's thirty five). It was obvious that he had a respect for PRINCE, he was not as sexy as PRINCE at all tho
. He was absolutely lovely. At first he was in a white suit *coughlikeapimpcough*, and then he was in an uniform of a famous Japanese football player who plays at Celitc (sp?) in Scotland. Man, he was so funny.
Laura, on keyboards and vocals, was really beautiful and her high-pitch voice was amazing. Dawn was a wonderful drummer wearing a fantastic strapless dress. She was so cute in an exotic way, I think she's from Singapore. The band would never be the same without two goddesses.
Their music talks to you like this - have some drink, get on the floor, take your loved one's hands and let's have a party!! You cannot resist it, it make you feel like dancing like crazy like I did that night
.
Motion City Soundtrack (15 May
@Club Quattro, Osaka)
I finally got to see the Motion City Soundtrack concert, and it was really really amazing. There were too much space in the house tho. The guys of MCS might not have supposed that they'd play in front of such a small crowd anymore. In a good way, the audience could feel the band close. The way Justin spoke Japanese was adorable. It was like "ÉèÉ^ÉVÉnÅ@ÉjÉzÉìÉSÅ@ÉèÉJÉäÉ}ÉZÉìÅBÉSÉÅÉìÉiÉTÉCÅAÉSÉÅÉìÉiÉTÉCÅAÉSÉÅÉìÉiÉTÉC". OMG, those guys were so hilarious.
Their music is different from my image of EPITAPH. Even though their lyrics have some negative feeling, their cheerful sounds help me get going. I like that way very much. When they started to play "The Future Freaks Me Out" I got sooooooooooooooooooooooooo excited that I couldn't remember if it was real or a dream
. I had a blast for sure.
After the show, I had a brief chat with Justin. I only talked about OK Go. Did I freak him out, I wonder?
And, Matchbook Romance. I hadn't known them, they had hard, heavy, explosive sound, which was very EPITAPH-ish, I thought. I must respect the guys as skillful musicians, but I thought I did't like their music. It made me feel hopeless, I felt as if I was sinking deeper. It looked like they were irritated by the silence of the audience. In Japan, however, the quietness doesn't mean the crowd is bored with the performance,it's usually opposite. But, if I were their fan, I would have made more noise. Concerts can be better when the audience participate in them. Don't you agree?
Comments
im not a big fan of the editers, were WAS fun?
i saw them at a festivle
Another non-Epitaph-like band on the label is the Matches, they're awesome also....(haha shameless plug)
and I shall have to go listen to El Presidente. They sound fun.
Thanks, Sarah, I'll check them out. Actually, I'd known about MCS from this forum (the old one). You boardies have great taste in music, I always appreciate it.
El Presidente, a cool, or a fool, name for a band, huh? It's always hard for this Japanese woman to explain music in English, but I'm trying for you Pearl . Their music is a amazing mixture of Prince, T-Rex and good old feeling of The Jackson five. Mostly Dante sings about heartbreaks and stalker-kind of love but it sounds really danceable, it's like "Let's have a good time and forget about the stupid girl/boy who dumped you". They've opened for Kasabian, Jamiroquai. And they're from Glasgow, looks like there're lots of interesting bands there.
I happened to reveal my idiocy, I typed Japanese. Justin told us in Japanese that he was sorry not to understand Japanese.
no no no, i loved WAS, its the editors who drive me to maddness
just like brendon bensons new band with jack white, i doubt ill ever like and im being petty to not get the album
And thank you Setsumi for explaining to me about El Presidente... I might give them a listen, see how I like their music.
