MSTRKRFT

edited November -1 in General Discussion
I just got an e-mail offering me a phone interview with MSTRKRFT, but if I accept then I will need some help with questions or topics. I like their music a bit, but I'm really not that familiar. And I'm not sure if it will be with Al-P or Jesse.

agentnumone? felster? anyone?

    ask about mustaches
"...so tell me about mustaches..." or "...so what are your feelings about mustaches?" laugh.gif

see, the thing is that i'd prefer to interview an artist or band if i know their music or have met or seen them live before. some kind of knowledge and familiarity would help...

yes, i'm sure they'd have some good questions or topic ideas!

but i'd like anyone's suggestions, familiar fan or not...
i think i might try to do this anyway...

Totally understandable. Then you can avoid the awkward, "So.....who are your influences....." and really dive into something interesting, instead of asking the questions that all their fans know the answers to. 'Cause that's what we all really want to learn, stuff we don't know.

i'm guessing that they didn't see this thread cuz it wasn't near the top when they were on...

...i do like your mustache-related question. but what specifically about mustaches should i ask? i can see one of them answering with: "what about mustaches?"
  • AHHH!

    i have a billion questions...

    1. who did the vocals for "shes good for bussiness"? It sounds kinda like Emily Haines... although I could be way off

    2. was the "work on you" video in anyway inspired by the Daft Punk "interstella 5555" videos?

    3. How do you feel when you are compared to Daft Punk, in that you rock just as much.

    4. Is Sebastian doing anything that DFA1979 Fans could be supporting?

    5. Why do you think the "easy love" video didn't really have any airplay? I mean there isn't any nudity...

    6. What remixes are you working on that haven't been released on the Internet or as bsides will be on the upcoming Remix album?

And more to come... i need to put my ideas in coherent form.
  • I have more questions....

You said you were working on the artwork for the new remix album... is that art going to be seripop like the looks album art?

Are the faces on the Looks Art anyone significant? I don't mean the ones on the inside... I mean the ones on the outside... and who are the couple on the back. Did you give those pics or did Seripop do everything?

    more laters.
  • To Al-P are you used to the Media attention and interviews yet? Has JFK taught you anything on dealing with the press?

What makes a song fun to remix?

Are there any songs that you love the way its already put together that you wouldn't consider remixing it?

My favourite song on "The Looks" always changes from day to day... one day its street justice, one day its shes good for bussiness one day its the title track. They are all insanely catchy, the hooks dig deep and don't let you go. Everytime I listen to it I hear something new and it makes me love it more and more...

... wait thats not a question.... just ramblings of love...

    ok heres a question...

Why the wait for releasing the album? i think the release date was changed twice...

How do you feel about the fact that the album was leaked to the internet about a month before the album offically came out?

What about Fans of Death From Above? Are they still waiting for a DFA album and are spitefull? or have they accepted MSTRKRFT?
  • ^^ah, thank you!!! i can tell you're a big fan...i'm a bit lost and confused, but you're giving me stuff to work with and i love you for it! wub.gif

and if all works out, i will let you know the details of the interview and will credit you for your questions.
  • Ahhh! you rule! record and upload that if you can and I'll love you forever!

tell me what your confused with... i'll try and help!
  • hm...i just meant in general, i got confused cuz while you know what you're talking about, i know very little about mstrkrft. all i know is this and please correct me if i'm wrong:

    1. members = Al-P (producer of dfa1979) and JFK from dfa1979.
i'm more familiar with dfa as i've seen them live twice and have interviewed sebastien.
    2. music = electronic. so it doesn't exactly fit my rock show format, but i think i can stretch within reason...
    3. remixes on the Romance Bloody Romance album.

let me see...i'm going to reply to your questions with my questions...
  • very right.

    and sure thing

Who is "You?" Mstrkrft, Al-P? Jesse?
Seripop? Who/What? Ahhh, I am confused most of all by this one...could be cuz we gpt an advanced copy at the station in a slim cardboard case...
  • 1. who did the vocals for "shes good for bussiness"? It sounds kinda like Emily Haines... although I could be way off
    who's emily haines?

ahhahaha I mean the chick from Metric. This Canadian Indie Rock group.... you know "monster hospital", "poster of a girl"

    4. Is Sebastian doing anything that DFA1979 Fans could be supporting?
do you mean sideprojects? what do you mean?

I mean is Sebastian actually working? I know hes DJing some things but is he developing any projects?

    5. Why do you think the "easy love" video didn't really have any airplay? I mean there isn't any nudity...
    ????

Well Easy love got up to number 1 on electronic charts in Europe, but Never even showed in Canada... except for on late nights... the video is pretty umm sugesstive... but no nudity... and not half as dirty as the hip hop and rap videos that are shown on Canadian Music stations...
  • Emily Haines is also in Broken Social Scene.

What are you saying? Is dfa1979 broken up?! ohmy.gif

    You is MSTRKRFT sorry.

The CDs do indeed come in a slim cardboard case. Seripop is this Art group... i know little about them... but the art on the album is made from them, I think they mostly do silkscreen posters.

    http://www.seripop.com/

What about Fans of Death From Above? Are they still waiting for a DFA album and are spitefull? or have they accepted MSTRKRFT?
What are you saying? Is dfa1979 broken up?!

hahahah well they always say they're on Hiatus... on the DFA boards everyone always sneaks in the ironic... "i guess we'll have to wait longer for a dfa record unsmilyface"

And I don't think they are broken up, I think that Jesse just always does that.... doesn't want to be held down by one lone project...maybe when he thinks mstrkrft is too controlling he'd go back to dfa... thats what i think anyways.

Are there any songs that you love the way its already put together that you wouldn't consider remixing it?

I don't know. I really don't know what he likes. I mean Daft punk songs are awesome and I hear the similarities in MSTRKRFT's music, but I think that they could take on the challenge.
  • cool, thanks for all the clarifications!
oops, i should know emily haines's name, cuz i have seen metric live and sometimes play their stuff, but i'm not a fan of her voice...but i do like that "she's good for business" song or whatever the title is. i don't have the cd in front of me.
