  • I love articles like this, they're a great insight.

Seeeeeriously! It seems like it's all happened a couple months ago. And like, HIGA has been released a month already... insane!

Yeah, it does feel like it hasn't been that long, but it's been a whole year since I bought the album just a block from here. This is sooo weird.

That *was* fascinating. Thanks for posting it!
And now, to be a tool, I want to mention that Jimmy Kimmel was March 1, not Feb. 1. B) How big a dork am I ...

They also never performed A Million Ways on The Tonight Show..

Also, maybe the Toronto thing came from Damian telling MuchMusic that they handed a bunch out and it was mostly Toronto fans putting it online..or something like that? I should watch the tape again...

Hey now! There were Chicago and Montreal fans helping with the distribution of A Million Ways, too! (I think I'm arguing with Mr. Kulash and not you, mixtape.)
  • Don't worry about it, he was just sucking up to the girl interviewing him because she barely had clothes on. Ah, MuchMusic..

Yes they did, they didn't perform the DANCE though. Remember how we were all angry because he wouldn't let them dance?

i found the chart thing but it's proving to be almost entirely useless, because they haven't done june/aug/sept 2006 yet.
  • I wonder what the 2 peaks are from.

Fall (er... early September?) 2005? I thought they sang DWYW?

The two peaks on the google chart: the first should be when the album dropped (?). It looks like it's 2/3 of the way through the 3rd quarter of 2005, which would fit with the end of August (the 30th). My best guess for the second peak is mid Feb 2006, when AMW dropped as a single in England and the album finally came out there and they took a quick hop across the pond to do some promo appearances.

Hmm, I could have sworn is was AMW, but now that I think about it, it probably was DWYW.

Thanks about the peaks. I was thinking that the first one was when AMW got big, but it's hard to tell.

I think the Leno appearance was DWYW because I remember Pam and I talking to Tim about a week before that performance, and discussing what they might do. He said Leno was really strict and wouldn't let them dance, so it would probably be DWYW. Also I think Capitol was still trying to get DWYW going as a single.
And, when they played at Woodfield Mall ("Thank you Woodfield Mall, GOOD AFTERNOON!") this summer and played AMW, I remember thinking that it was only the first or second time I'd heard it live (including on tv).

The peaks on the chart: I just tried to chop up the sections of the graph and match it up with part of a calendar year (if that makes any sense). And isn't part of the comparison between AMW and HIGA that AMW's rise to fame was more gradual, whereas HIGA piggybacked off of AMW and exploded almost immediately? Therefore I would disagree with the theory that the first peak is when AMW got big.

And I love getting all analytical when I'm slightly drunk.

That's true, it was a gradual rise.

    I don't get it....
  • Just a take on the usual "Thank you, [city]--good night!" He said the above quote at the mall and it was funny.

Ooooh, that makes sense. Who said it? I imagine Tim saying it.

  • Eh, Sheri and I can respond simultaneously.
One of my favorite parts of any recent OK Go show is the end of DWYW, where they draw out the DO. WHAT. YOU. WANT., repeat it a couple of times, and usually end with "THANK. YOU. [insert city]. GOOD. NIGHT."
I don't know why, but I love it.
Anyway, partway through DWYW at Woodfield mall that afternooon (I was so hungover and the whole day was really trippy. I was in the suburbs, watching OK Go at a mall. WTF?) I thought ahead to the end of the song and wondered what Damian would do, since he's usually so good at localizing lyrics ["when we got to Aus-tin..."]. Thank you Schaumburg, goodnight??? I don't know...
So I was super happy (I know Pam shared my joy, too tongue.gif ) when he changed the end to "Thank you Woodfield Mall, GOOD AFTERNOON!"
It was just so funny. And witty. And Damian. wink.gif

Yeah, he even does Dallas to "The Fix Is In," it doesn't sound right, but he still does it.
