Where a band is from, does it matter?

edited November -1 in General Discussion
Does that really matter? Maybe if all the people in the band grew up there and were really influenced by the music scene there it would have an effect. but i've noticed a lot of bands just move to a place a few years before they release a record and they're a Chicago band, or a Brookyln band or whatever. I know a lot of the indie bands that say they're from Brooklyn on their myspace or in concert grew up and went to school somewhere else. For example W.A.S are all Californian boys but are known as a Brooklyn band. Why do bands do that? Sorry i'm not up on this sort of thing, lol.

  • Well, because to say you're a Chicago band when you moved there to focus on the group before releasing a record, that would mean you're involved in the Chicago scene and maybe weren't really a serious band before you moved there.
  • I love so many Chicago bands...

But. I know a lot of bands who have moved here (I live in Southern California) to "make it"... I guess because we have so many venues, and there are a lot of labels out here?

They usually say "California via Virginia Beach" or just say they have two hometowns now... which irks their "real" hometown fans to no end... hah

Anyway, I would appreciate if people stopped moving here. Aspiring actresses included. Traffic, you know. mellow.gif
  • Sometimes I want to know where a band is from (particularly if I like them) so I can get an idea of the chances that they'll come around again or if I may need/want to travel to see them...Or if I they have cool accents, I might also wonder where they're from...
