Coming over here from the JC

edited November -1 in OK Go
Just wanted to say hi. I'm Rachel and I've been an OK Go fan for about 4 years now, my husband got me into them after he saw them open for TMBG.

We were at the Philly, NYC, and DC shows this week, and my husband was the guy who yelled "The Cactus Sucks". Except he didn't yell that. He yelled "Macaca Sucks" in re: Former Sen. Allen (R-VA) being a total douche. I'm so proud of my hubby.

  • Welcome aboard! My name is Rose too. But I'm mostly known as Tempe or Krose (with a silent k). So lucky you got to 3 shows in such a short time. Thank you to your husband for giving us a new Kulash quote that will echo thru the ages. wink.gif

    I'll tell him!

My name's Rachel, I just use Rose a lot on the internet because I played Rose in Gypsy in College. It was my Al Bundy moment.
  • Welcome, welcome! Yes, do thank your husband for yelling that. Now I've got a great siggy, lol

*LOVES* that you used a "Married with Children" reference. biggrin.gif Welcome!
  • Welcome!
Very cool that that was your husband smile.gif
  • Welcome Rachel! Hope you have a rad time here!

    whats this Damian quote now?
  • Are you really from DE? I still can't believe that there are actually people who live in Delaware. I know people go there to shop and to go to the beach and just to drive through (all of which I've done) but I've only ever met 2 people who actually live there haha.

I'm jealous that you got to all 3 of those shows. Lucky, lucky you...

LOL, yes, I live in Delaware. I'm from Connecticut and my husband is from Long Island. We lived on LI for a bit before he was transferred down here by his job. There aren't a lot of people who live down here. In fact, just about everyone knows everyone here - it's kind of eerie.

Those three shows were AWESOME. If people want, I can copy and paste my (LONG) articles on the three shows to the boards. I just don't want anyone to get sick of me just yet.

Oh, and btw, thank you everyone for the warm welcome. Adam (hubby) is so very pleased with how much you all loved his outburst.
  • please do post! any obnoxiously long articles on Ok GO make for good reading (and good procrastination technique)!!

    I'm meg, btw.

although not many people call me by my real name here, dunno why. I think they all like phantommilk better haha.
  • I'm Maura.
I'm sure the reason people call you phantommilk is just cuz they can't remember your real name. It's just easier to refer to people by the display name, and also that kinda helps those who don't know your name to know who other people mean when they mention you on here. I don't expect anyone to remember mine, lol. It's a tad unusual. I'm horrid with names. I always feel so bad! I can remember faces, but when it comes to the names, I'm a wreched person *hides face in dishonor*
  • well, there is that, haha. boardies on here are usually good at names, but I don't really mind, haha.

I know someone named Maura- I don't think its that uncommon.

'sides, my real name is Margaret, so I'm used to uncommon names (for my age group, at least)

and I like phantommilk, so it doesn't bother me at all that people use my username.

when I first joined I used to recognize people by their signatures/avatars. Then they kept changing, so I had to learn usernames, haha. (and eventually I learned some real names too.)
  • I know someone named Maura too, so I don't think it's that uncommon. I think my name is pretty uncommon, even though I have met another Kalinda. Most people tend to remember my name just because it's so different. Even Damian kind of remembered it after a whole year.
  • I've only met one other margaret my age.

all the other margarets I know are older.

I think kalinda is a pretty name. I know I've heard it before, but I can't think of where from.

anywho, we should all be glad we're not named "Armondea." I know someone who named their daughter that... after Armond in "Interview with a Vampire". seriously, she just made it up.
  • When I was little, I didn't like my name because I could never find it on little license plates and stuff like that, but now I like it.

I feel bad for Armondea. I feel like my sister would do something like that when she has kids. She once went through a phase where she wanted to name all of her kids Bob, even the girls. Luckily, she has moved out of that phase.
  • Bob? that name annoys me. I dunno why.
I mean, I would have been named Robert if I was a boy, but my nickname would've been Robbie or Rob. I don't even mind Bobby as much, but I really don't like Bob.

anywho, I also have trouble finding my name on souvenir thingers. They always have at least two or three different spellings of "megan" but no "meg" or "margaret".

The only problem with being nicknamed meg is that everyone calls me megan if they don't know me well. It's really annoying and I always have to be like, "my name's not megan, sorry."
  • I've only met 1 other Maura, and she's much older than I am (50. 34 year difference). All my teachers drive me crazy because they pronounce my name Mara, rather than Mora. I told them so many times how to say it. My past teachers understood, but once I got into high school it all kinda went down the drain. Now every time I go into home room my teacher leans back in his chair and kinda lifts his arms and says "ah, MArA!" it's actually quite comical now, but it drove me crazy for so long sleep.gif
  • ahaha, the Maura I know has the EXACT same problem. eventually she just told the whole marching band to call her "Mo". It only kina stuck, though.
  • My first/second grade teacher always called me Maura Moo biggrin.gif And then coincidentally my brother and I made up a game called "ushi" where I was this cat thing, and as it turns out "ushi" is japanese for cow (supposedly) lol. So it's all connected O_O and as you can see, that name has kinda stuck. But I don't like to use Ushi in normal day to day stuff. Just on these acounts.
  • that's a fascinating story!

    very connected, yes.

the best nickname anyone's ever given me is "mergwyn"
  • I've never had a nickname. There was this one time in sixth grade when my volleyball team wanted to call me "Kali" but that only lasted for the one day and they all went back to calling me Kalinda.
