Donna, my best friend, and I headed to Irving Plaza, and got in line.
While in line, we met Katie, this girl I know from the Juggling Club/Facebook, and her roommate. Katie, it was really lovely meeting you! We waited FOREVER. Donna is a trooper, I tell you. Granted, her ticket was free, but she waited a LONG time.
We finally got inside and were able to get fairly close. I'd say two or three rows back. The opening act, Quit Your Day Job, was very fun. For those who are unaware, Quit Your Day Job is from Malmo, Sweden, and they have about 2 or 3 different drum beats that they use in songs. Then they put in a phrase and repeat it over and over as the lyrics. For example - "Look! A DOLLAR!", or "Open Up You Coconut", or "Beat the Boss!!!!!!!!!". There. You now know most of their songs. I highly recommend you check them out. Damian and Tim watched the ENTIRE set from the balcony, and everyone was really distracted by it
French Kicks was up next, and I liked them better this time than the last time. But their sound still wasn't being mixed right. Now that I've listened to their tracks on Myspace I can say that they need a better sound engineer.
Then, OK Go comes on (at 10:45, poor Donna). Once again they open with "The House Always Wins" and the place goes wild. The show was taped for something, not sure what. Donna only made it as far as "You're So Damn Hot" (7 out of 18 songs in) before the crowd was too much for her to take. I can't blame her, it was intense in there. People crowded in and pushing around. It's too bad that was her breaking point though, because the next song was "Neat Neat Neat" by the Damned - a TOTAL highlight of the night. Damian jumped on the amps on the side of the stage and danced on them during that song. I really love that song. I need to have an MP3 of them performing this. It may be up there with "Hold the Line" for my favorite OK Go covers.
Then the guys went to the back of the room and did "A Million Ways" and "What to Do" acoustically. :-D Sweet.
When they got to "Oh Lately It's So Quiet" Katie and I yelled "Run's House" in response to "Who's House", just as Adam and I had done on Wednesday. We didn't see Damian react this time, but.... more to come on that later.
The guys really went all out for this concert - confetti explosions and all. I went downstairs during the encores, thinking I needed to meet up with the NYC Street team then, but they didn't come down till after the Million Ways dance. So I missed Return, Do What You Want, and the dance, but that's not so bad. I met up with the street team, and we went outside and handed out stickers. I was kind of a fiend - I kept running out and having to get more! Once we did that for awhile, the lable folks took us back inside and upstairs TO. THE. DRESSING. ROOM. Full of OK Go's friends. And inside we wait while Damian finishes a conversation with a friend. I feel all sorts of awkward waiting. You know that "I need to talk to you and I don't want to be rude, but instead I'm standing here listening to your conversation which is really still rather rude" thing? But whatev, eventually he talked to us. I apologized for standing around, and he was cool with it. Annalisa, the head of the NYC street team introduced us all, and then I nervously asked to get my picture with him. Damian agreed and put his arm around me, but the flash didn't go off. So we had to take it again. The Icon picture is the flash-less one, because it didn't come out so badly. The second picture isn't quite as nice, but if you make it bigger, it looks better. Still, not best for icons/avatars. It's on my desktop at work.
We thank Damian for his time, and go out onto the balcony to talk to Dan and his fiancee. Dan recognized me! Dan told us this story about how his fiancee (who is drop dead gorgeous, btw) used to date some guy on Gilmore Girls, and invited all of us to go to the afterparty at the Beauty Bar. I TOTALLY would've gone, but I was daunted by the prospect of taking the subway back to the Bronx by myself any later than I already was going to have to, and this girl on the street team had offered to ride with me up to 88th street, so I didn't go.
We walked out to where Andy was standing with his parents. Really lovely people. As his mom started to walk away I said "Have a good night, Mrs. Ross". She looked at me as if she thought she was supposed to know me and then I said "Oh, I just heard Andy call you Mom". She smiled in that "Oh aren't you cute" way. Then we talked to Andy, and he recognized me, saying "We've definitely met before". Then I reminded him that I used to work at LIR with this guy Harlan and he instantly knew who I was. Then he introduced me to his friend and business partner, Travis, who also knows Harlan. He and I started talking for a few minutes, when I noticed the other street teamers going to leave. I excused myself from the conversation and started to follow the girls when...
I remembered that I hadn't told Damian that it was me and Adam and/or Katie shouting "Run's House" duing "Oh Lately It's So Quiet"!!! And I really wanted to tell him that because I KNOW I saw him smile when we did it in Philly! So I tell the girls that I have to go tell Damian something, run back into the dressing room, wait for a break in Damian's conversation, and exclaim "I'm sorry to interrupt again, Damian, but I really wanted to tell you that it's me yelling 'Run's house' in 'Oh Lately'". He said "Really? You *are* yelling Run's House?! I wasn't sure if that's what I was hearing. Come here a second. Puts his arm around me. Brian! Come over here! This girl hears 'Run's House' too! I'm not the only one!" Apparently Brian had said Damian ruined the song for him because he mentioned "Run's House"! "Great, and now it's in my head." says Brian. "It's In your head, in your he-eh-eh-eh-ead" sings Damian. "Zombie, Zombie" I sang. Damian says "right," and I lose my nerve and run out to meet the other girls.

ahhhhhhhhhh i don't know why it posted 3 times! haha
I think the guy with Andy in Chicago when I was talking to him (and the one who took the pic of me & Andy & Damian) was Travis--what does he look like?
I absolutely love their "Neat Neat Neat" cover, too.
The Run's House/"Zombie" conversation--priceless
This thread didn't get nearly enough attention. I hope fawning over Rachel commences now.
Lucky! :]
Sheri- I've been informed(by rachel!) that the guy pictured with Andy is Travis:
Look familiar?
Okay, I'm confused. HOW THE HECK ARE YOU PEOPLE GETTING BACKSTAGE?! I don't understand these insider juggling club connections.... will some one please explain to it to me!!!???

Yea, how? I got to go in for the soundcheck because people didn't show and I was waiting outside for so long...but how did you get in?

Sheri, you're such a sweetheart, thank you! Yes, Dan told me where they'd be partying, and in retrospect I Really Really should have gone. It's been 3 months and I'm still kicking myself. I could've taken a cab back to Shell's. Or even just gone back to Times Square where my husband was camping out with his friends for the Wii. I had options. A Loser is Me.
Fawning isn't necessary, but I wouldn't complain. ;-D
LOL, you commented on the Grownups group, where I posted the exact same write up, Theresa. Although to be honest, that thread quickly changed to the story of Lori and the video camera and the hotel room... that sounded a lot dirtier than it was meant to sound....
Oh! Run's House. There's a song by Run DMC. Reverend Run starts the song by saying "We've had a lot of superstars on this stage tonight, but this is MY HOUSE. Now when I say 'Who's House' Y'all know what time it is - Who's House? RUN'S HOUSE!" You can find it on YouTube. I didn't include this in the original write up, but we had a brief discussion about Run DMC too, and I mentioned how I had met DMC while I worked at a radio station on Long Island, and then he told me how their tour manager (the guy who looks like Mr. Feeny) used to work for Run DMC. Anyway, Damian laughs every time I shout it now - it's kind of funny. In London I did it and he and Tim both laughed. After the show I went over to him and said "Hi, Run's House" and he smiled, said "Yeah, I heard" and kind of chuckled. So yeah, now I'm the lame-ass "Run's House" chick. LOL
As to the street team questions, I belong to the Capitol Records street team, and that night it was mostly people from the label itself, so they had VIP passes and brought me along.
I heard you say that to him at KoKo and he laughed and I was standing there wondering "what the fuck am I missing??"
And being known as the Run's House girl is cool... you have a connection with the band!
I need a connection now!!!
Hmph
*thinks*
