We barely hit ANY traffic on the drive from NYC to DC. There was a little rubbernecking traffic in Baltimore (10 minutes, and it was absolutely nothing other than jerks looking to see the accident on the other side), but we JUST made it at about 6:30. The doors were due to open at 7:30, and I had to be there early to poster. Adam got in line to wait with Jonathan (my friend who was taking another friend's ticket, since she had too much homework), and I went to the will call window to get our tickets, as we were on the Capitol Records guest list. But then I get to the window, and the woman says my name isn't on the list. What do you mean my name isn't on the list? PANIC.
Call Capitol Records out in LA. But it's Sunday, so they're not there. Call Annalisa, the woman who heads up the NYC team. No answer. Call my parents and ask them to check my email for the cell number of my LA contact, but stupid AOL only keeps emails for 7 days before it deletes them. So I'm standing there. In the cold. Without a jacket. For 30 minutes. Nervous that I won't be able to get in.
Then, THANK GOODNESS, the Merch guy from Philly and NYC recognizes me and gets me in with 10 minutes to go before doors - that's NO time for what I need to get done, so unfortunately the postering was half-assed. Then, while I'm postering, the Capitol executive I'd chatted with in Philly recognizes me and helps me get Adam in! Unfortunately, the head of security makes us wait back outside, but lets us in first when he finally opens the door a few minutes later. So we walked right in, and Jonathan met us inside shortly afterwards.
So you all know, I walked RIGHT UP to the front of the stage. At the barrier. I couldn't have been closer without special permission. I stood between where Andy and Damian stand.
Quit Your Dayjob and French Kicks play their sets just like the previous night (or two, in FK's case). Both were enjoyable. I saw Dan watching both sets up from the wings of the stage, but I kept quiet about it because the night before the guys seemed annoyed that everyone was watching them watch the opening acts.
OK Go comes onstage. Oh Thank You. Same set list as NYC, but with different Damian banter between songs. Still, I watched this show from THE FRONT. No one blocking me. It was great.
Before "You're So Damn Hot" Damian was talking about how the Democrats took back congress (Damian's a big liberal like me) and my husband yells out "MACACA SUCKS!!" (ie, Former Senator Allen (R-VA) sucks). Damian mishears and says "The Cactus Sucks? Well, yes, Cacti do suck, because they need to survive in the desert. I never thought about it that way, though, thank you" (that's a shortened version). Oh the funny.
Then in "Oh Lately It's So Quiet" I did my "Run's House" shouting again. I am 90% certain that Damian realized who I was because of our conversation the previous night then, because of two things that happened afterwards.
During "Don't Bring Me Down" Damian surfed into the crowd from RIGHT IN FRONT OF WHERE I WAS STANDING. Here is where I touched his butt. I had to. If I hadn't touched his butt he would've fallen. It was like saving his life, really. Also, his shirt came up a little in the back and I touched some back skin. Swoon.
And - The Kicker - during "Do What You Want", after the break down when they sing "C'mon, C'mon, C'mon," over and over, Damian sticks the microphone down into the audience. This other girl pushes in front of me and gets there first, but then Damian puts the mic in my face so I'm singing "C'mon C'mon C'mon" instead of the other girl.
Did I mention, by the way, that all of that was broadcast over NPR? Oh, and did I also mention that you can listen to the broadcast on the internet, and HEAR me and Adam on there (if you know when to listen and listen closely)?
After the show (well, during the AMW dance) I went outside to hand out stickers. I handed out as many as humanly possible, but still have LOADS left over. I tried to get back in, but because of the earlier SNAFU with the guest list, it wasn't possible. So yeah, kind of anti-climactic end to my Rockstar weekend, and part of the reason I was a little down. The guys didn't come out to chat with the fans, and so I waited outside for naught. What can I say, I'd been spoiled!
I guess that's the way things are going to be with them from now on. They're getting big. I don't have to explain who they are to people as much anymore. I'm glad I got to see them this many times while they were still small(ish).

" "Oh No," the group's year-old sophomore release, is nearing gold status"
WHAT?!! That would be so amazing for the guys!
Wow. I've seen tons of crazy flying Damian hair pictures, but that is the craziest one by far.
You are so lucky you got to be up front! I'm hoping I can do that the next time I see them!
