OH OH OH OH really go wild yeah doin' it in style, OH OH OH OH get in the action. Feel the attraction, color my hair, do what I dare OH OH OH OH I wanna be free, yeah, to feel the way I feel (way I feeeeeeel). Man! I feel like a woman!
First is Elvis, aka the king When I was younger my parents used to play alot of Hindi, soca, Bob marley and colypso music, which i didnt really like, but they also used to play alot of Elvis. I dont really listen to Elvis alot now, but I think it was elvis that drew me towards more folk-esqe types of rock.
after Elvis was my Spice girls stage... which didnt last long, since i was fairly late on the whole fad

1) Barenaked Ladies.
next was a preety dry music spell... i didnt really get into music untill i was 16... which is late, but I some how stummbled across the barenaked ladies. They were first band that made me want to dance... Barenaked ladies opened me up to everything, and I guess made me the "music nerd" as my friends call me today.
next : Bright eyes... i know... he is sometimes depressing, but i was depressed when i was 17. Highschool was shit, especially that last year, so it was great to have someone to cry with. I still love conor though, if i ever get to see him play it will be fullfilling a whole bunch of teenaged fantasys...
Joel plaskett... I've known about Joel for a while, and I believe that he has done alot for Canadian, and particularly East coast music. His writting is so beautiful. I met him recently, and I was so blown away by him that I wasnt able to tell him how much his music has affected me.
Buck 65: Hes another canadian music star. He just helped me appreaciate canadian rap, and its vast difference from american rap . I guess you can say he doesnt really "rap" any more, but he still makes great tracks.

6) The Books/Kid Koala:
Im adding Kid Koala to my list... i dont really know alot of his music, but i know that he literally saved Buck 65's life when thier ferry sank on the way to a show in the toronto islands. If there was no buck 65, I dont know what i would do, so props to the kid!

Alright, I just started listening to Deltron 3030 (Introduced by my boyfriend as the "rap CD for people who aren't into rap")
Not only is it produced by Dan the Automator, but also includes the rapping of Del Tha Funkee Homosapien (who rapped Clint Eastwood on the Gorillaz's self-titled) AND DJing by Kid Koala.
Holy crap it's awesome.
It's weird how I never used to be into hiphop/rap at all. I mean, I respected it for the talent needed to put a CD togather, but I never actively listened to most anything.
Why is Kid Koala so awesome????
Anyway, here are a couple of tracks, the first from the Deltron CD and the second from a Kid Koala CD ("Some of my Best Friends are DJs").
hmm, I'd say Interpol, and for a serious reason. I know I talk about them a lot, but it's not so much they're my favorite as that they were my FIRST favorite. my first real obsession. they led me to message boards, and to good music.
other than that, I'd say Tally Hall for being the first band I got to meet and talk to.
and Parker House and Theory just for being so darn amazing.
You asked for life-changing bands? Well, I guess here goes, even though this doesn't involve a band that was anywhere near as good or influential as the Beatles or some of the others mentioned......
I didn't really listen to music much before junior high. Then I heard about this local band and fell completely in love with them.....and yes I can admit that the most important life-changing band I've ever listened to was Good Charlotte. Though they're really not that good, I was only 13 so it's not as if I knew anything about music. I was slightly obsessed, though I never did get to see them, but other fans turned me on to some of my current favorite bands, or bands like Wakefield who got me into my local scene (I spent sooo much time at local shows in high school). I've had some other bands that were really important to me, but GC definitely changed my life in a huge way, more than any other band.
ya I love them. i listen to them about everyday. theres something about that kind of raw angst and I guess I have to say "emotion" (lol you know what I mean by that...) that I could never express but just while listening, those emotions are ok... not normal in any bit... but others have felt them... others have experienced them, and you're not alone.
2. Ok Go.... well ya obviously...
honestly i can't remember how it felt like to not know about the awesomeness that is ok go. they brought me my first club show... Damn I think every moment of my life could be related to an ok go song... graduation "bye bye baby" starting of university "here it goes again" me losing millions in poker debt " the house wins"
3. Daft punk
ya. I love this band. I cannot believe i'm going to see them. I just think about it and I find myslef basically going insane with anticipation. They opened my eyes to how amazing dance music can be. I've only heard stupid like trance and stuff before I never knew how much dance could affect your emotions. I never used to like instramental pieces before them... now i can appreciate the rollercoaster rides that they can take you on. Every track is like the producers idea mixed with your own feelings and experiences... these songs can become very personal, most of daft punk's have a special place in my heart
Counting Crows have seriously enhanced my life, but I don't know about changed. It's very powerful music and i really want to know how the man can write songs about my life when he's never met me, but to tell the truth, if they didn't exist my life would be the same.
Now my life is actually factually different (and heaven help me, this is an increasing problem) because I discovered a little band called Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers. I'm gonna start a thread. I can't believe I haven't before.
wow, this is my first post on here in like months. was there always a music forum here that i just didnt notice?
as for life changing bands/artists, John Mayer. omg. his music has got me through so much, it's unreal. practially the soundtrack to my life. listen to him ALL the time. going to see him for the first time live in september, and i cannot WAIT..

Ohh, he's absolutely wonderful live, I saw him about a month ago. I know everyone thinks he's overrated, but it's so hard not to love him. Good music.

My ex-boyfriend has been a fan for years and I finally gave in and went to see a show. They were amazing. I've been hooked ever since.
