Ooo, Damian looks extra va-va-va voom in that yahoo thinger. That dopey perky girl makes me giggle the way she reads captions off of websites. I mean, that's probably the point of "The 9," but it still makes me giggle.
(Ooo, and to dietpepsidrink: I believe I have now referred to you and to Damian as "va va va voom" )
Do you think Damian sees it that way? He seems to be enjoying himself, although I guess he may be acting (remember Las Vegas?) One thing is for sure: Damian *knows* how to look into a camera!
I think he understands why TV appearances and such are necessary, but I can't think he really enjoys them at all. I'm going to sound like a total snob here, but he and I are both pretty well-educated, and I have to say that people who work in television (at least the on-air personalities) are generally disappointing, intellectually. If they were ever smart, their jobs tend to make them moronic and very fake. The fakeness and insincerity are even more disappointing than the dim-bulb-ness.
I have always been impressed with how Damian seems so comfortable and genuine in front of a camera or a radio microphone. It's intimidating to be on TV - like you start being fake, too, just because you think you should be; at least that's been my experience, and I cringe when I hear myself. In fact, I've lately tried to follow Damian's example and just be myself in an interview, and the times that I've done that, I really liked how I sounded. I'm still learning, but I'm getting better. (And it's not like I do this every day, but I do get interviewed on local radio and TV news once in a while for my job.) So once again, OK Go has improved my life.
I'm a little jealous of the JC, cuz I know there were ppl on this forum like Karen who voted sooo much so that Ok Go would beat Matt, but this community is never mentioned. sorry, I whine too much. But I wouldn't be surprised if Bakersfield Fan and Kareh single handedly crushed Matt for Ok Go. I mean, after all, Adrienne had her kids voting at 3 computers too. ~hooray for Adrienne and Karen!~ You're awesome!
Oh wow, Tabetha, thanks! I actually voted a lot more than I mentioned in my interim post(s) somewhere, but I'm kinda embarrassed to say how much exactly. I don't want to come off as having no life! And that being said, there could be others who voted even more but won't say how much, for the same reason. But I did vote after 11 PM or so, and then again went on a spree starting at 6:30 AM, and I don't mind saying that at those times a day, I'm usually just dallying around anyway, or sleeping. After the sprees, I checked up on them throughout the day to make sure they were still at the top, and threw in another few votes here and there for good measure, It was KILLING me that they weren't going to close the voting until around midnight, Germany time.
I'm a member of the JC too, but don't post there very much.
J.orge should give this board a unique name, because I, too, call it "the other board" or else I type out "The one at forumsunlimited.com" which is cumbersome.

This seems to ring true to me. Something about how he conducts himself, and his composure, says to me that inside, he's holding his nose to get through some of these things, as part of the job. I often don't see a lot of enthusiasm; it could be everything you said, sureeyesawake, or a combination of that and being tired, or just being tired at the time (touring + daytime interviews often means an unstable sleep schedule). He could well want to be enthusiastic but it's difficult. I'm sure that he's aware that it's also a chance to make an impression on an audience--so at the same time he wants to do it well. He's a good actor, if a bit ambivalent for the reasons you mentioned. Last thing he'd want is for anyone to read cynicism into it, though. I'm sure he appreciates the exposure, among other things. We can probably find interviews where he seems really excited and into it, like the JBTV interview, or that cooking show, where he seems like he's really having fun and not just "working", and compare and contrast them to others. Damian's apparently good at sucking it up and doing what he has to do, and making the best of it, though. Just the impression I get as one of those ridiculously hypersensitive, empathic types. Anyone's free to disagree, of course.

I agree, Kareh. He may be thinking "Another damn interview?!" to himself, but he does a good job of making the best of it and trying to have a positive attitude. I know I'm so sick of the "So who came up with the treadmill idea?" question, but Damian answers it every time with a smile on his face. That's part of the business, I suppose.

I love the way Damian manages to make it sound like it's the first time he's been asked who came up with the treadmills idea, everytime, no matter now many times he does it. He always seems to start with an air of "woah, that's a new one" even though it never is... He's so polite it's adorable.
Yeah, this should be mentioned instead of the JC. I tend to call this site "the boards" just coz its quick and easy. But we need a name.

True, plus I think he just likes telling people that it was his sister. He's clearly proud of her and of their creative collaborations.
The Kiss of Dirt story has 65%, compared to D.K. Go at only 8%!
Well I'm part of that 8%!

i must say that people are a lot nicer on these boards compared to JC i never go on there anymore - especailly as a newbie, people were kinda mean.. everyone here is great!
I had the same experience at the JC. I was afraid to post after seeing some responses to other newbie questions. I feel at home here, you guys are great!

I just call it "the board." It's the real board. B)
I call it "the forum". Maybe we should start throwing out some ideas of some good names for this place. I also read on some other thread that we should make some sort of button or sticker so we know who belongs to the board. That way at shows it'll be much easier to recognize fellow boardies.
I'm lazy, so I'm just going to say that I agree with everything everyone said about Damian's interviewing awesomeness and the boards. Also, I always just refer to here as "the OK Go boards" and ignore the JC completely unless I'm really bored.
Hmm...I'm trying to work out a phrase involving "Fucking Awesome Club! T-shirt" and "FACT", but I can't seem to come up with anything good. "Member number 1,142, and that's a FACT!" Eh, not very good. "and this is a FACT" would make more sense, I suppose. I dunno, I'm tired.

I want that shirt. But shouldn't it say Fugging Ozzum Club instead? BTW, where can I hear Damian say that?
