........ Look at all the talent and creativity and discipline on that stage. Look at all that joy. They will succeed in spite of their critics, in spite of their own fears, in spite of the neat little box the industry would like them to stay inside. OK Go is the real deal.
After watching the CD USA performance that OK Go did on NYE (thanks so much to sherib for the download!), I was going to start a fun little thread called "Damian's Lick" but what I really have to say would go better here.
During that performance, when they are playing "I just want to thank you," Damian casually throws off this lick that most guitarists would give their eyeteeth to play and most axe-gods on stage would accompany with a painful grimace to call attention to it. Damian just wove it into the song like a thread of gossamer gold - so you'd hear it's shimmer - but if you weren't paying attention, you'd miss it on a conscious level, even as it sang through your veins. A one-hit wonder couldn't do that; wouldn't have the sensitivity or discipline to pull that off.
A one-hit wonder writes (or has written for them) a song with a hook, clever but trite lyrics, and a walking bass line that sounds cool the first time you hear it; but after two weeks, you want to shoot your radio (figuratively, of course). Or a one-hit wonder is a thief whose one success is something they didn't create but were clever/powerful enough to lift from someone else.
OK Go, now their music has staying power. I'm not tired of "Invincible" yet, nor HIGA, and by all rights I should be. And we all know that OK Go creates their own music -- oftentimes with great (and real) stories behind them (Damian's cat?!).

*stands up and applauses*
I can imagine you at a podium saying this speech.
I love that they make real music such as Damian's cat and his spider children. Thank you, OK Go, for sharing your crazy world with us.

Real music should make you happy even though it's sad...and that just made no sense. But OK Go makes me happy just thinking about those wonderful down-to-earth gentlemen.

I agree.
Most bands may have one good element to them, but then be lacking in another. Like for instance, they might have realy amazing lyrics, but they sound terrible. Or they have a great stage preasence, but they don't preform well in the studio. OK Go on the other hand is an all around great band. Ther lyrics are amazing, they can play well on stage and in the studio, and they have amazing personalities. (They're not half bad looking either)

Wow.
Yes.
I'm going to save this whole quote.

Our boys are going to be around for a long time.
That was super fun, and I'm going to You(Tube) it later.

Yep that was me! That WAS fun! (Even though we were totally confused about our parts.) Can't wait to see it up on YouTube!
It should be You(Tube)'d sometime this afternoon. I hope. It looks really funny with two Tims during a lot of it.
