(The Bird and the Bee, Fujiya & Miyagi, LCD Soundsystem, the Good, the Bad, and the Queen),

love The Good, the Bad, and The Queen.... a supergroup that actually works and is original... who would've thunk it?

    erm...local bands...

well, there's Parker House and Theory http://www.myspace.com/parkerhouseandtheory
lovely.... not only did they go to college in Boston (Emerson, awesome place) they also all originate from the New England area (the drummer is actually from the town next to me, which makes me happy...) anyways, I love them to death.

haha, I was at a "battle of the bands" for Wakefield High bands.... it was fun, and there's some real talent at our school, but I have the feeling that's a bit /too/ local...

    erm....

Apollo Sunshine is also amazing.... and Ok Go agrees.... and I really really wanna see em live but I haven't been able to yet. oh well. http://www.myspace.com/apollosunshine

Apollo Sunshine is amazing. I got to see them when they played with OK Go in L.A. Which was one of the best concerts I've been to thus far.

    oooooooo
    awwww

    another fan!!! awesome!

  • Oh good, another place to plug the Washington DC bands I know and love. Okay, first of all, Washington Social Club. http://www.myspace.com/washingtonsocialclub. They are releasing a new album on June 16th in DC, and I am so bummed I can't be there for the show. They are one of the best live shows I have ever seen. I'm sure they'll be touring soon for the new album, so watch for them!

Also, the Sketches. http://www.myspace.com/thesketches. I highly recommend the video they have posted for "Hard Read." Great power-pop song. They just put out a CD on Saturday and played an amazing show at the release party.

And finally, Greenland. http://www.myspace.com/greenland. These guys have a CD coming out on June 22nd. Are you sensing a theme here? I would recommend going to see them live if you can, because they're one of those bands whose appeal comes through better when you see them perform. They play the NYC-DC corridor pretty frequently.

-Mucca Pazza (a full indie-poplike marching band)
    http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea...iendID=38850171

I LOVE Mucca Pazza! I saw them at Manifest [the festival my college puts on at the end of every school year] and at Looptopia and they were amazing.

    Here's my addition . . . and whoever made this thread didn't know me . . . I may go crazy . . .

    Probably Vampires
(They're great. The bassist dances on stage. Enough of a reason to see them live.)

    The Redwalls
(If you've known me for a while, then you know that this is my all-time favorite band for two years running. And yes, they're local. They just released a new EP [FINALLY] and they're going on tour this summer.]

    The 1900s
(They're playing at Lollapalooza. I'm excited about it.)

    The Ivorys
(Classic rock influenced band from the Lincoln Park area of Chicago. They're pretty damn good live, considering they just got out of high school. They're very advanced for their age.)

    OFFICE

    The Changes

    Down and Dirty Blues Band
(A friend of mine is one of the guitarists in the band. They're amazingly good.)

I would have put Mucca Pazza, but that was already covered. And those are the recommendations I have for everyone who wants to listen to some Chicago music . . .
  • Yay. This thread is still alive and kicking.

Castledoor. An indie rock band from LA. They are really good. They sold out of their EP so purchase their music from iTunes. I really like the song Magnetic Forces. And they are good live. Check them out smile.gif

Jaded - THANK YOU for this. Just wanted to say that smile.gif

You like them that much? Kick ass! I love them; they're one of my favorite bands right now. I'm so happy they're from Chicago.

Yeah, they're really good! I was going through your list of websites and they were my favorite (of the ones I managed to get through lol). I just bought their CD on iTunes smile.gif
    Thanks, Jaded!
  • No problem at all. I'm glad you like them.
  • captain mojo and the cat's pajamas...

    http://www.myspace.com/captainmojoandthecatspajamas

kids from the town over from me, I think they're still high school/just out, but they're getting up there in the music world, I think. have opened for apollo sunshine, which automatically makes them awesome.

either way, the name by itself deserves recognition.
  • dull drums! now!
  • okay okay, so this is going to be my "local bands comprised of high school kids who are way better than they should be" post.

It's mostly just so that I can spew and get it all out of my system. Who knew there were so many talented high schoolers around Boston?

If you want to take a look at them, be my guest. They are all pretty phenomenal.

    The Mystery Tramps
The Mystery Tramps have actually been around for a while. They're good. Very good.
They won the Berklee/WBCN "battle of the high school bands" last year.
    They deserved it.

    Eyeball Kid
Eyeball Kid won that same competition this year.
    And really, really deserved it.
I saw them at a benefit show on Friday and they completely blew my mind.
    seriously, they're phenomenal.

    Casey Sullivan
Casey Sullivan was at that same show on Friday. She, too, was phenomenal.
    She's a really really good singer/songwriter.

    Zephyr
Zephyr are actually from my town. and my high school. They're nice kids. I get used to having them around, and forget how good they actually are. They're very classic rock-y. I think they're better live than they are on the recordings they have up. musically, they're insanely talented.
