Forty Years ago today, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band was released in the US (it was released 40 years ago yesterday in the UK) and forever changed music.

So, it's only right:

  • IT'S GETTING BETTER ALL THE TIIIIIMMEEE...
  • They've recorded a new one to celebrate. A few new bands have done a song each and it's gonna be played on BBC radio 2 today - I know The Killers and Oasis have done a song each... I'll be listening out for it tonight. smile.gif

oo yes i've heard about this awesomeness - i believe kaiser chiefs and a bunch of others have done songs as well.. i'll try to find the broadcast on bbc website!

i love sgt pepper's! the beatles are so awesome!!
i'm jealous you have it vinyl!
  • It's actually my aunt's. I think she was a mild hippie and has a bunch of great Beatles albums on vinyl (the white album, Sgt. Pepper's, Abbey Road, etc.). She doesn't have a record player so she lent me the records.

I think I need to get her a portable player next year so she can listen to them again, though I'm going to miss Sgt. Pepper's the most.

Those covers sound great! Nothing can compare to the Beatles, but I love it when people give the songs a shot... sometimes the covers turn out amazing in their own way.

I'm so tired so this probably makes no sense. Sleep time? Yes time.
  • Tonetoile, you rock so very much! tongue.gif
  • I only rock to try and be as cool as you Tempe, <3!

    P.S.

Lovely Rita Meter MAID Nothing can come between us. When it gets dark I tow your heart away!
  • dry.gif sleep.gif the beatles are a bunch of hacks. McCartney sucks.
  • Shut up, sweetness dry.gif jk!

I liked them too. Wasn't so keen on the Magic Numbers cover though...
And I have a bit of a vendetta against razorlight, but I guess it wasn't so bad seeing as it was Scary-Chin-man (I don't know his name - the drummer) singing instead. That one was actually rather brilliant.
  • i liked the old drummer.... the guy with the chin (andy burrows) is quite mediocre.

    but i digress.

    mccartney is a punk.

    Paul is dead.

    Duh.
  • clubbed by a seal?

I don't know why I find the whole thing so amusing.

"Paul is dead! Miss him! Miss him!"
  • My mom is a legend.
In the car today she had A Million Ways playing on her mixed tape, and she said to me "OK Go should have done one of the Sergent Pepper's songs. They're brilliant enough for it. They should have been asked."

[She also turned up at my school to pick me up after my exams, blasting You're So Damn Hot out of the open windows in celebration of me having finished them all. Unrelated to this thread, but she's awesome.]

Ahh your mum's cool! I got my mum into OK Go too, and she's obsessed with Don't Ask Me, she always says the song is going round in her head! ha ha

I particularly like Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, She's leaving Home and Lovely Rita. I know A day in the life is often voted as the greatest Beatles song, but I personally don't think so..

I really liked Travis version of Lovely Rita, they were sang so close to the original and was brilliant! I've never really paid that much attention to the song until they sang it. It's a lovely song.
My favourite Kaiser Chiefs did a good job too but I don't think Getting Better really suited them. They were really struggling with vocals and things. sad.gif
  • Lovely Rita is amazing.

I had the same feeling at first about A Day in the Life. I honestly did not get why so many people loved it. I ended up listening to it while I was falling asleep and, for some reason or another, I just got it. The swell right before the music changes tempo, that amazing transition. If nothing else, that moment was that I fell in love with.
  • mmm, maybe I will love the song one day... rolleyes.gif
  • Hahah, possibly, but I'm sure you can still be a functioning human being even if it's not your cup of tea.
