is anyone else worried that okgo is going to get too big?

edited November -1 in OK Go
OK so, I saw them on their first night playing with the Fray (who no offense Fray fans, but they are as entertaining as my shoe), and aside from a handful of people-no one knew who OK Go was. So much so that I met all them randomly on the street by themselves, while high security was watching over the Fray's buses. I think I was pretty lucky to meet them-but as the tour continues and the huge amount of Fray fans see what a fantastic and wonderful, (and hot) band OK Go is, they might get so popular that the chance encounters with them will be slim.

So is anyone else worried? All I suggest is go and see them now, before they become the mega stars they should be.

  • lol i thought this tread meant that they were getting fat! hahahahah

Im like "no wai! tims so trim nowadays! ... oh..."

but ya its a little harder to meet them and shizz but Im very proud of them I hope they become very big they totally deserve it.
  • well, I do feel like I missed the opportunity to see them when they were small. I guess it's selfish of me, but I would love to meet them all, at least once, and get autographs. I think of them as role models and I would love to tell them how brilliant they are. On the other hand, I guess I never would have heard of them if it weren't for their youtube explosion...I did find it surprising that they are playing with such a "pop trend of the week" band like The Fray- and when Damian announced it on that radio show just as the interviewer was making fun of the fray, it was kind of awkward...But I think OK Go will stay true to their indie roots, no matter how big they become...

Oh Man, Evil, that is HILARIOUS.

Seriously though I had the same concerns before and during the Snow Patrol tour. All I can say is eh. 1st of all they've been wonderful for years and haven't gotten the recognition they deserve. Also DWYW didn't really perform as well as it should have in terms of radio play - HIGA got loads of attention but as a follow up for some crazy reason people didn't respond to DWYW.

So while they totally deserve to get huge and play massive arenas (with the occasional tiny, fan club only shows of course), I don't know how soon it will happen.
  • I have mixed feelings as well; a lot of people do. I'm sure I could deal with it if they got huge and I'd be sooooo proud to see them in big arenas and stuff. Their success so far has made me very proud and happy; the way I yack about them sometimes, you'd think I were their mother. Okay, sister. laugh.gif But yes, there's a possible down side to all of that. If it happens, I imagine it'll feel worst at the end of a concert when you know there's no chance of talking to them to say "hi" and gauge how they're doing, and thank them. But between concerts, the feelings will level out and it won't be so bad... and we'll hope there'll be a day that when it dies down, that they'll still enjoy touring, and things might be a little more friendly again. If you have reason to think you'll still like them by then (and I don't doubt for a second that I will) then I think that's a reasonable enough thing to at least hope for. And in the meantime, I plan on having my own band again on which to focus much of this energy and excitement (I can't wait; I can't stand it anymore!) and that'll take the edge off. Gotta make sure you've got another passion besides OK Go and it'll probably be okay :-) They DO what my passion IS (well, the biggest of two or three big ones), which is a lot of what my excitement over them is about. And do it so well, and so well that they got me back into it.

Edit: P.S. Evil, your pics are hysterical! You guys all crack me up.
  • Yeah, it's always going to be a mix between two feelings: wanting them to be successful vs. still having that accessible vibe. I've never met them, but I've always wanted to, and really hope I do someday. I wish them all the best with their music, but I love them too much for them to become too big, too surreal... whatever. It's kind of sad, because I want people to know about them, but at the same time... I don't.
  • ^^ Haha, that picture of Damian as an uber fat man is really scary!!

I completely agree with Sally, I'm annoyed at myself for not hearing about them from the start, and missing out on the t-shirt and jeans, Andy Duncan days. And I hope that I can still meet them after shows and have the great relationship that OK Go has with their fans. But of course, at the same time, I'm so happy for their success, and that's what THEY really want, so as long as they're happy, I'm sure I can live with that extra bit of sneaking around/flirting with security to keep seeing them!!

Oh you have no idea LOL... maybe the countdown has started already in fact... I mean, even here in Latinamerica people are beginning to know about them... if they weren't a band but a regular company I would be buying stock like crazy wink.gif

  • I am definately not worried because if they weren't getting all this attention there would be NO way they'd come to Australia!
Sure, i'm a little annoyed that i didn't find out about them sooner but i can still appreciate their fame, they've totally earned it!

I can't think of a band who deserve to be loved more than OK Go wub.gif and it's also really lovely to be able to talk to people about them now!
