Did she? I only read that Damian approached her to ask her if she thought he was an asshole. But maybe I missed something.
It was in that live broadcast of their D.C. show for NPR. There was a thread that became the Damian is an asshole thread and Damian's mom read it. Then she asked Damian about it and he told the story later that night at the show.

Ah, thanks. I did miss that (or forgot about it). I can't listen to it now due to a technical difficulty. Is it just a case, though, of his mom going by only the impressions of others, from what she read? Because I do think sometimes people can get the wrong impressions. And I remember his answer, something like, "You've known me all my life. Do you think I'm an asshole?" which seems like a defensive or even rhetorical question to which the anticipated answer would have been a "No".
Will try to give it a listen as soon as I figure out what beef NPR has against my media player

It's "Mom, you've known me my whole life... I'm a fucking asshole!"
And I love it when he later says "So now, Nice-Guy Damian, so my mom will love me again!!"
I think that, by calling himself an asshole, it sort of sets you up for it, so that any assholery can be excused as a joke that he's aware of. Because an asshole who knows and admits that he's an asshole is less assholic than one who doesn't. And then when he actually turns out to be sweet and lovely, you're pleasantly surprised.

OMG...I realized I'm channelling WAYNE...party on Garth
I just want to clarify, I don't think any of the guys are assholes. I find Damian to be witty and charming(from what I've read and heard in interviews).
Dangerous is a word that rather suits Damian better in my opinion. Not dangerous like a psycho killer, dangerous because he is unpredictable to a degree.
it's early and I'm beginning to lose my train of thought...I'll stop

Hee hee hee, yes it is! AND the show where Damian stuck the mic in my face during DWYW. Dear Damian, I <3 you. xoxoxo, Run's House Girl.
ANYWAY, apparently Mrs. K said "I've been reading your website, and your fans say you're kind of an asshole."
Also, when we were in London, and Hannah called Damian out on the whole "Grass on the Playing Field" comment, Damian's response was "Oh G-d, did I really say that? I'm sorry, I'm an entirely different sort of asshole onstage. Thank you for being the object of my fake scorn."
But this is also the guy who thanks his fans for taking the time to talk to him (he's said that to both me and T-dog, off the top of my head). He ain't no asshole.
It's an act. And we eat it up every single time.
Oh, Karen, I have an MP3 of that show on my computer at home, I'll email it to you?

It could take me a while to get to it and pin down the problem and adjust what I need to adjust, so if you want to send it, that'd be great!
I listened to (I believe) a part of it on the other computer (Mac) once, and was distracted, and don't think I ever finished it. Real Player only let me "bookmark" it. I really don't want to sit for a whole concert tethered to my Mac via headphones, concentrating on just the concert; I'm too ADD for that. Having the file would be great if it's no trouble, thanks! I'll fix my setup some other time; I kept putting it off till I forgot all about it, and I'm too tired to do it right now.
Hmm, good question. Well, since DJRose originated the quote, they would have to be chocolate brown, of course. I don't know about the lettering, though. There are far more talented artists on this forum than me.
I mean, I think it was a board thread about Damian being an asshole (which he is, but just because you are/can be an asshole doesn't mean that you aren't/can't be sweet/nice/genuine/other nice things) was what sparked his mom confronting him in the first place...

Ah, thanks! I had to go on transcriptions I read.
And I agree with your last part 100%!
Pandy gave it to me as an MP3 so I pretty much know it by heart now. As does my 9 year old sister who exclaimed "He is NOT an arsehole!!"

And there's your next t-shirt. And on the back:

And what would these t-shirts look like? I'm just curious.
