Hey, all, I'm glad this forum exists, because I can enter a shameless plug for a music festival that I volunteer for here in Cincinnati.
If you are a music person (even a little bit), I encourage you to check out the MidPoint Music Festival (MPMF) this weekend, Sept 26-29, 2007, if you can.
Over 200 bands from all over the country will be playing in 17 downtown venues. It's like a big party - people go from club to club, shout hellos across the street, and talk about who they’ve seen, who they’re seeing next, and what they think of it all.
Have you ever loved a band and wished you could have seen them before they got big? MPMF is that chance. With the techtools at
http://mpmf.com, it’s easier than ever to preview bands, find bands that sound like other bands you love, and listen to a few of their songs to find who you want to hear and see live. There’s also a Schedule Builder (new this year) where you can record your choices, save, and print. I just spent some time doing this, and I’m really excited to see some of these bands. (Btw, last-minute changes are possible – check the schedule at mpmf.com before you go.)
The festival’s major must-see is legendary indie-rock band Superdrag, appearing at a special preparty on Thursday at 7:30. The original lineup is reuniting and kicking off their first tour in 8 years here on the first night of MidPoint. You can only get into the preparty with a badge or a 3-day wristband, available online now or at the festival on Thursday night. You need a 3-day wristband to get into Friday’s preparty show by Forget Cassettes, too!
All the info is at
http://mpmf.com.
Free previews on Fountain Square on Wednesday, Sept 26, will feature performances from festival bands both at lunch and after work and an outdoor screening of Golden Days, a documentary about Brooklyn band The Damnwells and the vagaries of the music industry. The preview events are free and open to all ages.
I’ve met some seriously cool people and several good friends through MidPoint. If you have any music in you at all, you should come!! You never know – you might just fall in love…and who doesn’t like falling in love?

if I was anywhere in the midwest, I'd be there.
Make sure you check out Man In Gray - they're a Serious Business band, and they're pretty good.
Thanks for the tips! You know, I didn't even think of it, but getting band recommendations are a nice side bonus of having posted this here. I'll try to see Man in Gray, but they're on at the same time as Ag Silver, another band I want to see...
I think I get to work the preparty that they're playing, so if I get pictures I'll send 'em to ya. They'd probably be excited that someone in SF loves them that much. I'll tell them they're for you!
I love you Suzanne! You're amazing but you already know that! My sister is an even bigger fan than me, but we both love Superdrag. They played a few shows with OK Go a few years back, but they weren't near me. I still remember how sad I was when that happened.
You are a total Ninja.
You're so amazing I can't even begin to describe how awesome you are. One day I will bake cookies and fly all the way to Cincinnati just to give them to you.
They seem genuinely glad to be playing together and being together again.
I have some live shots, too. I'll send you the best ones. Thanks for the praises, but I don't deserve it. I'm just glad I could give you this little gift. I'm glad it makes you happy! I did tell them that you are FLYING to Boston from SAN FRANCISCO to see them; they were impressed by that. I hope you get a chance to talk to them!
MidPoint is two days down, one to go, and I'm having a fantastic time. There is nothing I'd rather be doing than working this festival!
MidPoint sounds like so much fun. Let us know how the rest of it goes!
