Since the Writers' Guild strike began, all the late night shows have been off air: the Daily Show, Colbert, Leno, Letterman, etc.
And now they're returning. Kudos to Letterman, for making a deal so his writers could come back. Craig too is in good standing.
But Leno, Conan, Stewart and Colbert are coming back without writers; they're crossing the picket lines.
Rumors have it that Stewart and Colbert have been threatened to be kicked off Comedy Central if they don't come back- I'm not sure I believe it. Leno had this to say: "Now that the talks have broken down and there are no further negotiations scheduled I feel it's my responsibility to get my 100 non-writing staff members, who were laid off, back to work. We fully support our writers and I think they understand my decision."
Well, I'll be watching tonight to see if Leno is less funny w/o his writers.

This is just more reason to love that Craig Ferguson (that's who you mean right?). I always felt Leno was pompous though, and indirectly, this somehow just makes me feel it more. Plus, I can't stand that every orthodontist teacher brings him up as the example of class III malocclusion. Sorry, I can't be more eloquent.
I have to admit, I think Leno did a fairly decent job tonight. I expected him to pretend like nothing happened, but he didn't. Instead he showed the NBC execs' houses as mansions and the writers living in shacks, which I thought was an effective way of showing why the strike is so important to writers and their families. He also emphasized that he supported the writers and that without them, his monologue had to come from the feedback of his wife. And he said the lighting and stage guy needed work, and that's why he came back.
But still...If Craig Ferguson and David Letterman can make a deal and get their writers back legitimately, I don't see why Leno and others can't. I mean, it's not like they have no clout. They're undermining the cause, even if they say they support the writers. Actions over words...
PS: Tempe, I couldn't resist googling "class III malocclusion." Lol!!!! It's hiiiim!
I love the strike beards though.
