I felt it!! Wooo Worst earthquake in Britain for 25 years, apparently. My bed was shaking loads, but it wasn't too bad down here. I think some of my stuff got knocked off my shelves though...
We're in the middle of a tectonic plate. We're nowhere near a bloody fault line. How the hell do we get an earthquake measuring 5.3 on the richter scale???

One of the HUGEST earthquakes in American history occurred in the 1830s or 40s right smack dab in the middle of the North American plate, where there is very obviously no fault line. It just happens sometimes.
A friend of mine who studied at St. Andrew's last year and who is originally from CA had her Facebook status as something along the lines of, "You pussies, it was a 4.7! Things ALMOST fell off the shelves."

Everytime I hear of an earthquake, I remember how Boston is on top of a fault line that's hundreds of years overdue for a major earthquake...
