But still, seesh! Is everyone there ok? Was there a lot of commotion made about this event?
  • well it only happend at 1am, so dunno the extent to the damage..

it is HFoC day today, as its 3 years since i joined, so maybe thats it?

Ha ha, I was just going to post about that! Except here, it's still the day before HFoC day.

What does an earthquake feel like?

Must make for big talk on the local news too.
  • its been on sky news the last hour or so, so its pretty big stuff
  • "English Earthquake"

When I read the title, I assumed it was just another thread about the one, the only Pandy.

    Anyway, I'm glad you're alright.
  • Wow. 4.7. That's a lot of shaking. The last earthquake I remember feeling was maybe 4 at most.

    I'm glad you're okay!
  • That's so scary!! I'm going to have to look up the news on this....
    Glad everyone's okay smile.gif
  • I'm glad you're ok, Andy and Alice and England! Hugs!

Worst earthquake in Britain for 25 years, apparently.
My bed was shaking loads, but it wasn't too bad down here. I think some of my stuff got knocked off my shelves though...

smudge is doing fine now, he wasnt very happy about it all though
  • oooh, glad to hear everyone's okay!

Everytime I hear of an earthquake, I remember how Boston is on top of a fault line that's hundreds of years overdue for a major earthquake...
  • See, this is what I don't get:
    image

We're in the middle of a tectonic plate. We're nowhere near a bloody fault line. How the hell do we get an earthquake measuring 5.3 on the richter scale???

One of the HUGEST earthquakes in American history occurred in the 1830s or 40s right smack dab in the middle of the North American plate, where there is very obviously no fault line. It just happens sometimes.

A friend of mine who studied at St. Andrew's last year and who is originally from CA had her Facebook status as something along the lines of, "You pussies, it was a 4.7! Things ALMOST fell off the shelves."

ETA: Okay, it was 1812, but here's more information on that: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Madrid_Seismic_Zone
  • the earth just wanted to shimmy and shake like the rest of us for a change...
