  • Has everyone got advent calendars? Everyone I know has one (YES, I'm aware we're too old for them) And I haven't and I feel all left out. Although I have to say it's probably less exciting waiting for one small chocolate each day, when I can go out and buy a whole big bar if I want to. But the chocolate in advent calendars SOMEHOW tastes so much better. Well there, I answered my own question. mellow.gif
  • whenever we get one, even though we don't celebrate xmas ha, I just open them all before and eat them.
  • hooray december! biggrin.gif

  • when we came back from thanksgiving weekend, my roommate and i were both holding advent calendars that our mothers had given us. people make fun of us, but we are proud of our advent calendars.
mostly because they have chocolate in them.
  • I have not heard of these advent caleanders. But if there is chocolate involved, I think I want one.
  • We used to get one with chocolate in it, but apparently now we're too old for them, so we just get ones with pictures...it's a sad, sad world.

it's pretty much a countdown to christmas. 'cause Advent is the 4 sundays (weeks) before christmas.

My Advent calendar has no chocolate. Just cartoon penguins.
    I like penguins.
  • in ye olde days i think they used to light candles, well that's what they do on blue peter (british kids show where they teach you to make things from sticky back plastic and used yoghurt pots, they also have music and cooking and raise money for var)ious projects to help less priviledged kids abroad)

but now we are in the age of commercialism we get to eat yummy yummy chocolate instead, woo woo!

  • advent wreaths are where you light candles. they're supposed to co-exist with advent calendars. advent wreaths are what the little kids make in sunday school. they have five candles, and you light them once a week, each week with one more candle lit. on christmas, you have all five candles lit.
they're fun. but not quite as fun as chocolate.
  • um... why does one get chocolate for Advent? I feel all sorts of ignorant.

    because it's yummy
  • AND because it sells well.

exactly the same reason we get chocolate eggs at easter biggrin.gif

  • Did anyone else have a Santa face and add a cotton ball to his beard every day? I can't decide if we had that instead of an advent calendar because we were poor, or because my mom was too concerned with my weight...

The last time I had chocolate from an advent calendar it tasted like chalk. Then again, it was imported from Germany, so maybe there was a translating error and it was chalk.
