do u guys know if a WF effects your GPA??? i know WA doesnt, but the "f" at the end of the "WF" kind of worries me. and that would be in ballet 1, since i just stopped going one day hahah.

hahahahha man im so dumb. I got straight As in middle school, and now im completely satisfied with a B. In middle school, I used to CRY over Bs. Im such a loser. But loser with good taste.
  • I think a lot of kids cried over B's even up until high school! I think I stopped getting upset over B's once I got into middle school. Well, I would still get somewhat upset, but not in that, "oh my god, i'm a failure" way.
  • last year i got a b and i cried

    and i havent gotten a b since

i have a feeling ill be getting one this marking period, though

    awesome. congratualtions!!!

im actually opposite. when i was in middle/high school, id be happy enough if i just passed. and now in college, i get really irritated if i do badly. I think I have like, one(maybe 2) C's in my college career and it is SO ANNOYING. B's are only slightly annoying, but it depends which course it is and how I expected to do. And I hate when you have professors that NEVER tell you where you stand...like, you could have an A or you could have an F and they'll never tell you!!!

My draping professor this sem. was like that. She'd grade my stuff and then say "ok" and then go write tin her book and never tel me what i got!!! so then one day, i was like "i have to know!!!" so i march on up to her desk and ask her how im doing. and shes like "youre doing fine..youre passing" and i wa slike "sjkhcfjskdcfhsdjk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! what is the GRADEEE!!!! passing isnt ENOUGH, foo!!!!"
  • Wind Ensemble Honors: 100 (+/-0)
    English 2 Honors: 89 (-1)
US History 1 Honors: 99 (+4...grr she wouldn't just give me that ONE fucking point!!)
    Italian 2 Academic: 98 (-2)
Drivers Ed. General: 94 (-1...that fat old crochety bitter old hag BITCH!)
    Chemistry Honors: 97 (+2)
    Algebra 2 Honors: 87 (-6...harsh, i know, but it's my own fucking fault...as usual.)
    Dance Adv General: 94 (+4)

FUCK this, man. i worked my ass off to get the same fucking average as i did last marking period. (94.75) and you need a 94.9 to get onto the high honor roll.

i hate this. i'm not even going to try anymore.
  • haha you're all so clever

i don't understand your honors stuff.... someone explain haha
  • SARA!! those grades are AWESOME!!!

rather than thinking you did so much work and ONLY ended up at the same avg as last semester, why dont you think about how you worked so hard and it paid off because you KEPT UP the same avg? those grades are awesome, dude. you have straight As!!! you realize that on your transcript, it will only have letters listed and not numbers, right? so youre doing fine! actually, youre doing AMAZING!
  • Yeah sara don't sweat it. I made like C's and F's in high school, ha ha. And now I had a 4.0 last semester! I mean try to keep your grades where they are so you can get into a good college, but other than that don't worry about it. High school is kind of a joke, at least mine was. I was in honors stuff and a lot of the other people in it just cheated to get their A's and B's and it made me so resentful because I like never cheated. At least I know I EARNED my C's and wasn't copying other people's work to get them. But remember there is much more to who you are than what you weigh and what your grades are, I know those things seem so important, but they're probably actually pretty trivial when it comes to your ultimate happiness.
  • no...they dont show on transcripts as just letters. they show on transcripts as averages for how you do the whole year. so one bad grade in one marking period fucks EVERYTHING up. last year my italian average was like..82. i suck so bad.

    im so stupid.

    I HATE SCHOOL.

and i really wanted to get into a good college, but there really isnt any hope right now. im screwed and im probably just going to some lameass school and only get half of the experience i should be getting.

im so upset right now i cant even explain it.

by the way, jen...schools are divided into sections so that each class can be taken on a different level of difficulty. in new york state, there is honors and regents. honors kids are those who excel and take harder subjects (its usually what everyone else learns, just more in depth and faster) and regents is for a slower, easier pace.

in my school (belleville nj) its split up into 3 groups: honors, academic, general. honors classes (the ones that i am in) are classes that are one year ahead of your grade. academic classes are on the level of your year, but still quickly moving. general classes are the year below your grade, and very slow.

each class offers a different amount of quality points in my school. general classes give 0 quality points, academic gives 10, and honors give 20. this amount of points is added to your grade at the end of the year and that's how they do your GPA and rank. so since i take honors math, science, english, and history, i get another 80 points added to my average. but other classes i take like dance...is general because it has no level higher than that, so that doesnt get any weight...its just what the grade is.

    does that make sense?

edit: im not trying to say that im not going to get into a college, because i will be accepted somewhere, but im just saying i wont really be accepted into a good one the way my brother was. hes going to brown, and hes never gotten a b in his life. since i wont be getting into brown (not that i want to go anyway!!) im just going to be the stupid daughter at reunions for the rest of my life. if i dont graduate valedictorian like he did, everyone will think that im not as good as he is.
  • omg! i wish we had a quality point system! because i go to a college prep so it's allll honors and aps. and so my gpa is not low, but not as high as itd be at a regular high school. oh mann if we had points, my gpa would be crazy!! but we don't rank at my school. which is good, because i wouldnt be very high.
  • in that case, comnsider yourself lucky. i graduated high school in virginia and our transcripts only showed letter grades. the problem with that was that we werent on a ten point grading scale. anything under an 85 is a c and anything under a 94 is b. so you could have a 94 avg and a kid in new york applyling ot the same college could have a 90, but when theyre looking at your transcripts, your grades will appear worse, even though theyre not! and to have an 85 and a C!? that is like, insane!!! and anything under a 78 is a D!!! what the hell is THAT. that grading scale sucked asssssss
  • Wow amina that sucks a loooooooot. My grading scale was kind of sweet b/c I got graded on a 5.0 scale (b/c I was in this IB program).
