    ...BEWARE OF BEARS!!!
  • i just dont get why he has to suger coat everything he says in these things

wouldnt it be better if he said "so iraq..i was miles off on that one!"
  • I didn't watch it. I don't like to listen to him talk. Though sometimes it is funny to laugh at him.

    Edit:

I meant it's funny to laugh at him all the time.
  • i thought the subject said state of the unicorn address... i was very disappointed when i clicked in and saw no address for the state of the unicorn...

  • I thought it was interesting.

The State of the Union address is supposed to give the American people an idea of where we are and a vision for the future. Although I may not agree with all of his policies (some are COMPLETELY wonky) and the way he bullshits around issues and his narrowmindedness...I have to say that he fulfilled this purpose.

I have to agree that all of his points were very idealistic, and it kind of seemed that now that he's backed himself into a corner, he's trying to explain how comfortable his corner is.

If it was any other president - or even someone who hasn't been in the limelight before, I'd believe him when he says things like "we're going to increase research on renewable energy by 22% (wtf?)", or "America is headed in the right direction...", but since he's been spewing such shit for the past five years without any positive outcomes...

Touching on my least favorite topic (I hate it when liberals attack a person based solely on their public speaking skills. Bush is NOT THAT DUMB. He's smarter than a vast majority of people, and probably even smarter than a lot of us...it completely undermines your own intelligence when the only thing you can attack him on is his public speaking skils. Damn it, he has stupid policies, why not talk about that?) --- I thought he did a really fantastic job (comparatively) with speaking. He (or his speech writer) should be commended for it - it was by far his best Union speech.

Not a bad job for a lame duck prez.

Side note: Did anyone notice the crazy eyebrow of the Virginian gov who did the Liberal response? CRAZY!

General statement, yo. It's a plague among the liberals here.
  • hahaha, I watched The Colbert Report today (as a re-run), and it was funny.

"President Bush just pointed out that Venus Williams is in the balcony. YEAH!" *claps*
  • I also liked how the camera panned to the one Middle Eastern Woman ALL THE TIME.

Bush: The people of Iran have a thrist for democracy...
Middle Eastern Woman: Give it up! I'm from Brooklyn!
  • Um, hello? Did anyone notice that NOT ONCE did he mention a small, insignificant event that happened 4 months ago...hurricane Katrina, which caused over $100 billion in damage and which his administration still needs to address this year in major ways. Oh and he only mentioned New Orleans once, which was completely destroyed and now houses 25% of it's former population because many people can't return home yet thanks to Katrina.

    I didn't even notice...!

Gah, it might also have to do with the fact that I was studying for AP English. But good point. Touche.

Fool us once, Bush, SHAME ON ME. Fool us twice, er...

    ...shame on you? rolleyes.gif

DUDE. That and "Math Is Power"! I'm TELLING you, they fit so well post-Address. Andy's a fucking genius.

I watched the last twenty minutes of the address with the Smith Dems (read: female liberals at a women's college in Massachusetts), and we basically sat there and snickered "Shit show!" to each other.

I do have to agree with Connyfoo on the point that it was a well-written speech. (Whether or not he wrote it himself, which I doubt, is another point of contention.) There were actually points he brought up that made me think, "Wow. That's not a bad idea." The only problem is, I know he's not going to implement those programs, or he's going to implement them at the cost of more important programs, or he's going to implement them in a way that's not going to benefit the average America. Like Connyfoo said, if he were another president, I might have believed him.

And yes, very little to no mention of Katrina at all. WTF?

Also bothered me- He quoted how teenage pregnancies have gone down 12% in the last decade, and then two minutes later he's like, "Thanks to abstinence-only programming." DUDE. MOFO. Teenage pregnancies have NOT dropped 12% because of abstinence-only programming. Face the facts, guy.

Oh, and the whole "tax-cuts have saved billions for average Americans!" when we all know the tax-cuts are going to the rich. Bullfuckingshit, Mr. Bush.

Okay, I'm done being a cranky liberal.

Haha, yeah I'd disagree with that since I have a friend with an 8-month old baby (she's 18 herself).

And I love how he says that but then will support a budget cutting Medicaid, college loans, and other support systems that actually help "average Americans."

Oh yes, the Budget Reconciliation Act! What a piece of shit. My state representative changed his vote of no to yes for the second HR vote for this fucking awful bill. I seriously can't even begin to describe how angry it makes me... but I'm going to rant anyway.

I'm not going to go into how much I disapprove of the war in Iraq, but I must say that the fact that it's cost not only lives (from American to Iraqi), the loss of our Allies, and resources was apparently not enough for the government. So, the people who will be paying for the war will not be those who sent us there, but the weakest in our society, the people who need our help the most. The elderly, the college students, the poor who can't afford medical aid, the sick, and even the middle-class, THOSE will be the people who pay.

I couldn't stand Bush sitting there with that god-awful smug look on his face as he said how America would be able to cope in a "flattening world" (not true in the least, China and India are poised to kick our economic asses) and how he was focused on improvement in the maths and sciences (how are we going to do that when the interest rate for college loans has jumped from a variable 5.3 to a FIXED 7%? Potential scholars who happen to come from impoverished roots will be unable to pay for college without putting their family into debt and what kind child would do that to their family?).

Though I did think that the Democrats standing ovation of the (so-far) failed attempt to privatize social security was a bit rude (though I agreed with them), but look at Medicare and what a shitstorm it has created; if we had done similar to Social Security, I don't know who would have been able to sort it out.

Bush is an awful president who happened to know how to work the media so that no matter what shit he gets us into, he'll find a way to put a positive spin on it. That scares the hell out of me.
