I think many people would agree with you on that. Also Im hot here in the great city of Shitsdale, AZ
  • Shitsdale, hee hee. biggrin.gif
  • I do believe that is the un-offical name of Glendale, Shitsdale. It works... sorta... tongue.gif
  • Here's a little question for you all. I have a really sweet Chinese kid in my class. Sometimes his English isn't too good. I was talking to him about a Geek that I know. He asked me what a "geek" was, and I just could describe it. So can anyone here describe a geeky person? Lol, I'd love to hear how you guys would describe a "geek" to someone.
  • a geeky person. that's kinda hard to describe, I think we're all geeky someway or another. maybe someone who can solve the rubik's cube in world record breaking time. who find differential equation, chemistry, etc. the single love of their life. They would never ever part with their books, they sleep with their books and dream about solving calculus equations and their ultimate goal in life is to memorize Pi. Someone with the philosophy of Study = life = love. wow. that would be really sad.
  • geek Audio pronunciation of "geek" ( P ) Pronunciation Key (gk)
    n. Slang

    1. 1. A person regarded as foolish, inept, or clumsy.
    2. A person who is single-minded or accomplished in scientific or technical pursuits but is felt to be socially inept.
    2. A carnival performer whose show consists of bizarre acts, such as biting the head off a live chicken.

Man, I'm in the same boat. I have a Chinese friend and she always asks me the meanings of words and it's hard to describe. Often it's the difference between 2 similar words, and I kind of know so I tell her, and then I feel worried that she might use it incorrectly because of what I said. Her favorite word that I taught her is concieted.
  • I tried to descibe "emo" for someone and found myself at a loss for words.

I ended up making vague sweeping handgestures (for the "emotional shield" hair) and formed some new words.

LOL this reminds me of this one time a gew frineds were over and we were accidentally recording (we just wanted to take some pictures) and the conversations went something like this.

    Friend #1: Whats emo?
Friend #2: Someone who is emotional
Me: And has badly dyed black hair
F.2: And ALWAYS wears black band tee shirts... even if they dont like the band.
Me: And has "suicidal" attempts, but mostly fake ones.

Then when we did find out that we had recored this whole conversation we watched it and almost died laughing. It was great. rolleyes.gif
  • Recorded convos are always the best. At a camp I used to go (Polish National Church Camp. I'm neither Polish nor belong to the church. I'm a rebel), the counselors (who were, usually, only a few years older than us oldest campers) brought out a video camera and recorded various things. My personal favorites included a guy going into the various older boys' rooms in the middle of the night, waking them up, and holding interviews. The "interviewed" usually weren't fully awake, so they would babble about whatever they were dreaming about for a few minutes, and totally forget about it in the morning.

They also celophaned the priest's car.... it's a very laid-back Jesus camp.

My mom asked me that, and this is what I told her:

Emo stands for emotional music, but you might notice that if you go to a Death Cab show, these people lack emotion, or at least enthusiasm. See, these people like sad cliche music, because "it's so real," but it seems that they are packed with so much emotion that they show no emotion at all. I also sometimes wonder why they call it emo: it should be sad-o.
