Those people kind of epitomize the word "airhead" so I'm not gonna bother registering, but you totally kicked their asses.
Actually, BloodflowerBill seems like a nice guy, and he's not the one who wrote the review, so he's still good in my book. But, yeah, I was like, mmmmmm....not so much....
ABBA wrote their songs in English. I write my songs in Swedish. Coincidence? I think not.
Honestly! Thinking Ok Go is Swedish! Those people really are air heads.
Forgot to mention: Just great what you posted to them, Jedi grrlie. You were thoughtful and elegant without being insulting. I want you to write all my English papers for me, lol. Fantastic job!
Haha, well I'm sorry about that I made an assumption based upon their bio(it doesn't actually make it clear), since they were recording in Sweden and had Swedish names. The review itself always stated that they were a US band.
I didn't say anything about the album mixtape old son!!

Hee hee, thanks. But you'll want my roomie to do your papers for you, he's an English major.
But I kind of understand where the reviewer is coming from. I remember listening to Oh No for the first time and two things went through my head: 1) "Wow, parts of this sound sooooooooo Franz Ferdinand-ish....." (Which now I realise may be less of a necessarily "Franz" sound and more of a characteristic of Johansson's production. But seriously, "Micheal" is like "A Million Ways" on speed.), and 2) "This is sooooooo different from OK Go." And I didn't know if I was going to like it at first, particularly since I have such an emotional attachment to OK GO, which I fell in love with and listened to during a really difficult period of my life. (The whole story of how I got into OK Go and why I love them so much is actually kind of long and complicated, but we'll save that for another day.) I didn't know if I was going to be able to wrap my head around this new "sound."
But the more I listened to it, and the more I listened to and read interviews with Dami and Tim and realised what their goals were with this record, I realised that it's not really necessarily a new sound after all. It's still OK Go. It's just, like I said, rawer, edgier, and truer to their live sound. There aren't seven guitars and a million things going on at once like there were in OK Go.
It really is a logical progression. I do admit, there is a big jump in style between OK Go and Oh No. But if you listen to all the OK Go stuff, all the way back to Appendices, you can hear how the band has progressed. One of the best examples is "Bye Bye Baby." Listen to the three recorded versions of that (from Appendices, the first EP, and OK Go) and then listen to "Here It Goes Again" and "Good Idea at the Time." You can see from the very beginning where the guys have headed with their music, and it's so amazing to be able to hear that.
Anywho. That's my speech on the matter. The reviewer is totally entitled to his/her own opinion. I'm just saying that there's a lot more going on in this record than you get from the first listen.

I've never heard anything other than what's on Ok Go and Oh No. I like both albums a lot. I will have to look into the other EP's that you mentioned. Wow, you know a lot about the band! That's awesome. One thing I'm also fascinated by are cover songs Ok Go has done of other bands. Is there anyplace I can go to listen to Ok Go perform songs by other bands?

*sigh* Welllll, we used to have a Yahoo! email account where everybody had emailed all of the old OK Go stuff they had plus live covers and live performances. But mysteriously the password has changed.
I'm pretty sure I have a really big chunk of what's out there. I'm missing a few covers, I think, maybe one or two other things. If you give me a few days, I'll whip up a Zip file for you over break and then email it or do a YSI. It's a lot of really great stuff. Some of my favourite OK Go songs are the covers they've done, and I've been listening to Appendices for the past two days, and now I remember why I love it so much...

I'd love to have those songs if you willing to share. Thank you so much, jedi grrlie. Take your time and get your school work done first. What kind of school work is it?
May the force be with you! lol (How many times have you heard that one?)

Well, I have to finish reading three fairy tales and post about them four times on the class discussion board ( I hate when professors make you do that...), and do like, at least three more costume design redrawings for tomorrow. If I could get all six done, I'd be way happy. Also, I need to pack and figure out what kind of work needs to be done over the break. I have a lot of projects due inthe first two weeks of April...
And actually, I haven't heard "May the force be with you" that much. Surprisingly enough.

Yuck discussion boards stink. But that costume designing sounds like fun! What kinds of things do you design?
Ack, I just realized I wrote "discussion boards stink." I meant school discussion boards where teachers seek to torture innocent students. I didn't mean real discussion boards like this one. I hope Mr. Mr. Mr. Jorge, Whom I Adore, Whom I Adore, Whom I Adore and the Ok Go discussion board gods will not strike me down for saying things wrong! Please spare my poor head, Mr. Mr. Mr. Jorge, Whom I Adore, Whom I Adore, Whom I Adore and all.

Right now, we're not designing, we're actually working on a historical costume project. I'm researching Palestinian dress, and it's pretty cool. But so far we've done character sketches for a play called Getting Out, and collage designs for another play called Machinal. And I know our last project is going to be designig stuff for A Midsummer Night's Dream. We also work on redrawing historical costume, which is pretty cool, because my mom's a costume historian, so I know a bunch already. My professor actually asked me to dress up in 18th century clothes for our class on Georgian dress, haha.

Don't kick me for saying this, but your school sounds like a lot of fun. (I know, you're probably saying in your head, "Yeah right, how can school be fun, you're nutso!") Are you a good artist?
I've been listening to Appendices for the past two days, and now I remember why I love it so much...
It's good but I find myself cringing whenever I get to those odd screamo songs like Dynamite. Can you imagine if they decided to head in that direction?
