I'm suprised you folks even remember me. Tempe and Hello Lover seem to be dominating the boards. Well, it's better than just Dave, I guess. tongue.gif

    oh how i've missed you...
  • just for context, the show in mountain view is going to be at the shoreline ampitheatre, its a yearly festival called BFD. the shoreline is like 20 minutes from where i live, so naturally im going. however, the shoreline is one of the shittiest venues to see a band in all california history. the sound is ttttteeeeeerrrrrrrriiiiibbbbbbbllllllleeeeeeeee, even the greatest performers of all time struggle to have great shows at this venue. i've been going since i was a kid, its always the same. luckily wolfmother and ok go are on the tiny stage and will have much better sound for an overrall more personal performance. however bands like franz ferdinand and the strokes are bands that were meant to be in small clubs. instead i'll be in the grass hearing them form far away and watching the video screen monitors that are always always 3 seconds behind the actual sound.

as well i just saw franz ferdinand live at coachella, and they were really bad. they kind of just bullshit their way through every song.

i agree the line-up is exciting, but trust me youre not missing the greatest show on earth. do NOT fly out to see it.

wait till the bands come around to smallers venues, and dont have to abide to the schedules of a festival which usually adds up to about 30-45 minutes a set until you get to the bigger acts.

Ugh, I hate when that happens. I think I've said this, but I've been to two OK Go concerts where the sound was horrible, and it just completely throws off the performance in your head. And I do agree, I'd much rather see The Strokes or Franz in a smaller venue- but I'd rather see just about any band in a smaller venue, given the chance.

Really? I've seen them live three times and I've loved each performance. They're a little kooky, especially Alex, especially late in the show, but I've thought they were just really great and full of energy. They don't play the most profound, earth-shattering shows, but they do what they're good at- rocking out and playing songs that make girls dance.

I hate when critics accuse them of being cocky onstage- they never come off as cocky to me. Cheeky, yes. But I think there's a difference between cheeky and cocky.

I couldn't fly out to see it, even if I wanted to do so, as I don't have teh dollars.

But while I recognise that the venue is shitty and that festivals of this calibre rush you through schedules and aren't at the best venues and are overcrowded, etc., the fact that so many of my favourite bands- The Strokes, Franz, OK Go, among others- and other bands that I'd love to see in concert are all playing in the same place would (hopefully) outweigh the negative, I think. I mean, if this festival were being played out here at Giants' Stadium, which is HUGE (and I hate HUGE venues), I'd still go. Greatest show on Earth? No. But if I had the chance, I'd go.

I'm more or less just bemoaning the fact that Kulash and Kapranos are going to be at the same festival, twice in a week, and it's on the other side of the country.

haha i'll be in the grass too. but i'm really confused as to how this whole thing is set up. somebody told me that the two stages are next to each other, and the bands switch performances or something. is that true?
  • i got to go to that show today. it was amazing. my friend and i were in the fourth row and damian jumped into the crowd where we were.

afterwards, we didnt get in line in time to get stuff signed by them but they came down where people were waiting outside & i had damian, dan, and andy sign my jeans and got pictures with dan and damian.

i was kind of upset at first that ok go was on so soon, but later i was glad because there was hardly anyone there so you could get in the front. later artists like panic and yellowcard were impossible to even get a glimpse of.
  • haha i think i saw you with your jeans.
    anyways, i have pictures...

  • lsfvg0w9i4utwpeif! ARR got a haircut?!!!!

Noooo. Now he doesn't look like a pirate anymore, this angers yet saddens me. dry.gif
I refuse to call him ARR now. Awesome pirate initials be damned.

But, hahah he's wearing Karleigh's tie onstage in those pics, sweeeet.

    I still wish I could have gone..*grumble*
  • Awwww, rooneyhappy, you're making me so jealous. For some reason today I've been having suuuch Ok Go concert withdrawl. laugh.gif

Gorgeous pics though. It looked like such a great time! You're so lucky you got to see all 4 lads!

Tim and Dan look adorable. Yeah, Kikky, why did Rusty cut his hair?! The Kulash looks exceptionally stunning. Ok, not to sound like a dentist, but the Kulash teeth look especially sparkly.

See? I really am going thru withdrawl! Lol. wink.gif

Thanks for posting these gorgeous pics, rooneyhappy!!! So tell us, what were the highpoints and lowpoints of the whole CA show? biggrin.gif

    SEEEEERIOUSLY.
I would just like to meet them w/o the bunches of "OMGZYOUREHOT" girls around. THey ruin an experience greatly.
  • ..people tell Franz Ferdinand that they're hot?
  • Hey, people can get desperate...

hah, i thought i was going to.
  • I hate to sound super duper negative again, but I was really dissapointed by this show. Not only OK Go, but pretty much everything. Ok Go's set seemed very very short and the sound was really really off. Damians guitar was way way quieter than Tim's bass. As well the band seemed to be lacking the energy I remember from the San Fransisco gigs. Also, I felt like i was the only one in the crowd who thought so; ive never seen so many teenage girls at an OK Go concert. It really reminded me of a rooney show i just saw where no matter how lack-luster the band was the girls would scream. I'm afraid that now after the A Million Ways video got popular, they have a million teenage girl fans who don't care what they do so long as they are onstage and in ties. It's making them lazy. The JC Penney add only worsens my fear that OK Go has fallen the way of cutesie-rock; how long until they pull a rooney and start opening for Kelly Clarkson? Anyways im not trying to attack the band or any of you guys, I just used to be a die-hard fan but now Im not so sure.

Anywho, the Wolfmother gig wasn't good either. I remember at Coachella they had this massive sound that hit you like a ton of bricks and at the festival it seemed just like average sound to me. As well, people in the back were pushing like mad-men and I was right in tthe front getting squished, im sure from the stage the crowd looked more like an ocean than an audience and it affected the band. They went from the endless energy I remembered from coachella, to Andrew the lead singer just standing in the same spot the whole set. People were pushing so much i couldn't even focus on the band. It was really really frustrating. Especially after the OK Go set.

From then it was pretty much how i expected it to be. The Strokes and Franz Ferdinand did their same 'sort of into it' sets and we were so far away from the stage I could hear myself eating french fries louder than i could hear the bands.

Funny enough the best band i saw all day was a local band called Two Seconds on the local band stage which is this tiny little nothing stage next to the beer stand. They had the best sound and were the most entertaining. Made me chuckle.

It was not a great show. But there's hope. The Download Festival is coming back to the Shoreline on Sept. 30th. Last year there were not a whole lot of great bands on the line-up but the Arcade Fire did an excellent set with better sound than i thought the shorleine was capapble of. So far I've found out that Wolfmother and Beck will be there this year, so maybe things will go better next time, but until then i detest the Shoreline Ampitheatre in all its suckitry.
