  • Ok, so I've seen it.

I wont lie, I didn't feel it lived up to the first film. However, i don't think it is supposed to be viewed on its own, it is more of a run up to the next film, and I would assume sets it up nicely (which it did I mean)

The special effects were nothing short of incredible. And Keira Knightley kisses Johnny Depp. How much do you wish you were her right now haha.

The cast is pretty much the same as the last one, Mackenzie crook and his sidekick dude are in it again, as is that stupid undead monkey.

Its probably not at all what you're expcting, it wasn't anything like I thought it would be, and it felt long (I think its like 2 and a half hours) but then there was a lot of story needed to be told (and a lot of random rolling in cages and water wheels blink.gif )

This doesn't make it bad though, I really did enjoy it, it was just different to what I had anticipated and its made me yearn for the next one. Which I guess is the point.

Anyone else get to see it yet?
  • I'm not reading what you wrote. 'Cause I read the "K kisses J" part, and now I'm like, "WAH I DIDN'T WANT TO KNOW. " tongue.gif biggrin.gif

But I'm going to the midnight showing out here, muahaha! So I guess I'll be the next Boardie to see it....?
  • Oh its not really important, thats why I wrote it haha. Sorry smile.gif

But seriously, the way he looks at her she kisses him. You just can't help but wish "i wish johnny depp was looking at me like that" hahaha biggrin.gif

lol jen you are too funny. i want to see pirates but i can. besides i'm totally waiting for my super ex girlfriend, rainn comes out and my husband luke wilson.
  • I might have to go see that just for Rainn.
  • I'm going to the midnight showing also...yay!

EDIT: I lied, it's sold out. I'm going tomorrow.
  • I was gonna go to the midnight showing but then I figured I could see for 2 dollars cheaper a couple hours later, so why go...overall it's a good movie but not as good as the first? Oh and did Johnny have a father in the movie?
  • Yeah, I hear Keith Richards was going to play Johnny Depp's father. True? I'd love to hear that part of it. Keith Richards always makes me laugh. So please someone tell me if he's in it and what he did!
  • He's playing his father in the third one.
  • Just got back and....

    OMGZOR CLIFFHANGER RAWWWWWWWR!!!!!

I have say....it wasn't as good as the first, and I wasn't expecting it to be, and there were definitely a handful of "....wtf?" moments.

HOWEVER. I still think it was a really good movie. And seriously? Most insanely frustrating cliffhanger ever!!! Gah! I can't wait 'til the 3rd comes out, I wanna' know what happens so bad!

Also- Norrington is HOT without that fucking wig. Just saying.

Also also, I kind of wish I'd dressed up as a pirate, lol....and it was like a freaking high school reunion in that theatre, I saw so many people from HS it was ridiculous....

He's supposed to play his father in the 3rd one. Last I heard, Richards was still having issues stomaching the idea of being in a Disney flick. But I hope he goes for it, Johnny Depp based Jack Sparrow on Richards a LOT.
  • As of a few days ago, they said that he's going to be shooting his cameo when the Stones' European tour wraps up in September. I can't waaait.
  • i'm seeing it tomorrow with my friend amber.

Lol!!! Oh that Keith Richards. Ah, so now we all know why he fell out of that palm tree. He was wandering along and came upon a palm tree. Suddenly, he thought, "Disney wants to offer me a job in a pirate movie! I'll show them!" He then attempted to climb the palm tree and once he got to the top, he planned to send out a roaring blazing f-finger to the world. "Feck Disney!" He was going to shout from the heights of the palm. He then discovered, that there is very little to hold onto when in a palm tree. There is even less to hold onto with one finger raised high in the air. He took a tuuuuumble!!! And the rest is now National Enquirer history.
  • norrington = jack davenport. meh. He's ok. The scruffy/unkempt look suited him A LOT, i don't think he looks too good normally. However, johnny depp. Beautiful, just beautiful. I'm gonna go see it again soon. I have to watch it like, well more than the other film i've seen most at the cinema which is shameful...

Also, i love the fact that Davy Jones was Bill Nighy. And that I recognised him because his accent kept slipping randomly. And then I could sort of recognise his face under all that octopus hahahaha.

I've thought about it lots now, and yeah it was a really good film, and I just can't wait to see the next one. I wonder when it'll be finished....?!?! Hmmmm.

No no, Davey Jones is the name of a character in the movie. As in Davey Jones' locker (the sea).

  • Muahahaha.

Have you not seen any trailers?!

I have to go see it again. NOW! haha.

Makes me wish I still worked in the cinema

I did like the movie, but I think I need to see it again to form a firm opinion about it. I loved the random references to the first movie, and it was very well-shot, but as someone said there definitely were some wtf? moments. And I hate when movies are made just to lead up to the next one.

Same here. I keep mulling over it and thinking about it and trying to come up with a really definite opinion. My big "wtf?" moment was the whole natives thing- honestly, they could have easily done the movie without that entire sequence. It was amusing, yes, but it wasn't really pertinent to the plot. The movie would have been 30 minutes shorter and a lot tighter without it.

I liked that there were references to the first movie and that characters reappeared- I really liked how they linked the Pearl and Davey Jones together, because that added on to your understanding of the first movie and of the series as a whole. (And it answered some questions, like what the heck happened to Will's dad?) And I liked the whole play on "your heart's true desire," who wants who and what and the chest and what-not. I thought that was an interesting theme throughout the film. But a couple of things and jokes were just getting tired, and I wished at some points, there could have been something new. And the plot was a little too twisty-turny and complicated at points.

I also wanted to see some more....piratey stuff. Like, ship battles and plundering and stuff. Instead of "AUGH THE KRAKKEN!" all the time.

Speaking of that, one of the things I really liked about this movie that you don't often see with big budget sequels was the lack of the overly-CGI look. The only time it looked obviously animated was during some of the Krakken moments, and that was okay with me, because it wasn't totally obnoxious, and the Krakken was part of plot line and the story of Davey Jones, so it didn't bother me. But I hate it when sequels go all CGI just to fill up the movie with lots of shiny moving stuff.

Honestly, and this is kind of weird, I keep mentally comparing it to The Empire Strikes Back. Now, Dead Man's Chest is not NEARLY as good of a movie as TESB, but....I feel like it kind of moves in the same way. Curse of the Black Pearl is kind of this separate, introductory adventure, but it's still connected to the second movie, and the seond movie gets darker and 'shippier and there are multiple plot lines and it leaves you hanging at the end.

Um. Did that make sense? I'm going to shut up now.
  • I love how the more and more we think about it, we have more to add to this thread. And apparently, after the credits of the first film, the monkey takes another coin (after they've all been taken back) so he becomes undead again, and after the credits on this one, those island people had made the dog their 'god' (although i didn't stay to see it). And although I haven't seen it, the whole island people reminded me of the trailers I saw for king kong... Yeah.

Also, the more I think about it, the more I like it biggrin.gif
