  • we are the worlds greatest producers of Wrestlers and wheat... and weed.
  • From an email I got when I was like 12 and saved because it's so very true:

SO, WHAT DO CANADIANS HAVE TO BE PROUD OF?

    1. Smarties

    2. Crispy Crunch, Coffee Crisp

    3. The size of our footballs fields and one less down

    4. The first recorded game of baseball was played in Canada

    5. Lacrosse is Canadian

    6. Hockey is Canadian

    7. Basketball is Canadian

    8. Apple pie is Canadian

    9. Mr. Dress-up kicks Mr. Rogers ass

    10. Tim Hortons kicks Dunkin' Donuts ass

    11. In the war of 1812, started by America, Canadians pushed
the Americans back...past their 'White House'. Then we burned it...and most of Washington, under the command of William Lyon McKenzie who was insane and hammered all the time. We got bored because they ran away, so we came home and partied...Go figure..

    12. Canada has the largest French population that never surrendered to
    Germany.

    13. We have the largest English population that never ever surrendered or withdrew during any war to anyone, anywhere.

    14. Our civil war was a bar fight that lasted a little over an hour.

    15. The only person who was arrested in our civil war was an American
mercenary, who slept in and missed the whole thing... but showed up just in time to get caught.

    16. We knew plaid was cool far before Seattle caught on.

    17. The Hudsons Bay Company once owned over 10% of the earth's surface and is still around as the worlds oldest company.

    18. The average dog sled team can kill and devour a full grown human in under 3 minutes.

    19. We still know what to do with all the parts of a buffalo.

    20. We don't marry our kin-folk.

    21. We invented ski-doos, jet-skis, velcro, zippers, insulin, penicillin, zambonis, the telephone and short wave radios that save countless lives each year.

    22. We ALL have frozen our tongues to something metal and lived to tell about it.

    23. A Canadian invented Superman.

    24. The handles on our beer cases are big enough to fit your hands with mitts on.

Oh yeah... and our elections only take one day.
  • oh noes! now people will know I have a nelly quote in my screen name. That is a one time thing.... I assure you.

Those are rather great Canadian things.... I shall add to your list

  • so multiculturalism anyone?

i think thats the best thing about Canada... assimilation is such a scary concept to me.
  • you guys made smarties?
  • you are trying to steal are smarties!

    WHATS THIS ALL ABOOT

    oh canada, you so crazy
  • well i guess that email just means that Smarites aren't available for sale in America... well they have a different version of candy called Smarties that are just like Canadian "Rockets"
  • "Point 21 claimed that a Canadian invented the telephone - actually, Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone and he was born in Scotland which casts doubts on some of the other claims made in the above message - that said, Bell did live for a while in Canada, but was actually living in Boston, USA when he invented the telephone."

Yeah, well, he first tested the telephone by calling a doctor in Perth, Ontario (hometown repruhsent). So nyeh!
  • so what? thats the essence of Canada right there! we welcome peeps like Mr. Bell, and they go ahead and invent the telephone.
  • what about that gravy stuff...you dip fries in...that's canadian! poutine! yeah! thank you wikipedia. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poutine
  • poutine is heaven... but some places make it like shit.

also, it is very artery clog-esqe
  • I've never had poutine..it looks like I've already vomited onto the plate.

TIM HORTONS! Also, I love how various American companies have changed their names in Canada. Specifically:

The U.S.'s Starbucks is our Second Cup
The U.S.'s Victoria's Secret is La Senza

I haven't really gotten into poutine at all. It's something about the cheese....

However! All-dressed cheesburgers from La Place St-Henri or LaFluers are probably the most amazing things I have ever put in my mouth.

Yeah, after being in Canada for a while, it's weird to go back to the U.S and have dollar bills. I'm sorry. They're just weird.

Canada is so awesome that sometimes i pretend I'm canadian just to be cool.

And there's free ice skating EVERYWHERE!

and the music scene in Montreal is amazing

and, though cold, we can warm up in some pretty kick-ass bars

    and the people are fantastic

and we have the cutest deps that are perfect for mid-midterm junk food raids

Well, OK, we do have a few Starbucks around, but basically Second Cup is owned by Starbucks or something similar and is everywhere in Montreal. Whatever it is, they make good coffee and are warm and awesome (my personal favorite Second Cup experience was on Valentine's Day when some guy came in and gave his [presumably] girlfriend who was working behind the counter this HUGE bouquet of roses. Adorable AND caffienated!

We also have the SAQ which is awesome and creates convos similar to this one:
Ken: "Saq? [he pronounced it "sack"] Who would eat at a restaurant called 'Saq?'"
Me: "Uh. That's the S-A-Q. It's where we buy alcohol."
    Ken: "Oh. Never mind."
  • I looove Second Cup, they really do have the nicest employees. Plus, on St. Patricks Day, they serve hot chocolate with green whipped cream!
  • mmmm really? i got to try that this year.

canadian stuff that is great cont...

Samantha Bee from the daily show, i adore her, and shes one of only 2 women daily show corespondents eva!

Zellers the HBC was mentioned before, but you cant have a canada thread without mentioning its cheep younger brother. Everyone growing up in Canada must atleast own one pair of shoes or a fleece suit that came from Zellers.
