That was so freaking good! So worth the wait! And the transitions using the mirrors are superb. I love the use of the dilapidated house and just that general, bleak and dreary look of the piece - it's so Interpol!
And Paul minus guitar and just lounging around? - oh oh!
Am I the only one who's getting a really bad quality of it though?

Holy crap, Paul rocking out? I dunno, I kinda like it how he's not a natural performer, it just endears him to me more than ever.
On a less interesting side note - during today's Psych lecture, the example given to us was of a 22 year old male named Paul! And one of the therapy theories involved talking to an empty chair (role reversal crap) and I turned to my friend and went "I talk to an empty chair named Paul a lot of the time!" and we both cracked up in the middle of the lecture. Haha!
I like that video so much better than The Heinrich Maneuver one. The mirror thing was really cool.
I was taking my break today at work and I started reading a copy of The New York Times that was just sitting there and I was flipping through and I saw this picture and I was like, "Was that Carlos?" so I went back and it was a review of their show in New York. The picture was of Paul, Sam, and Carlos onstage. It was so random and I thought I would just tell you guys about it.

Is it crazy that every time i watch a single shot video these days i think of OK Go? For some reason my mind has decided anything that appears to be a single take is obviously taking off our boys. I don't know i guess I just make little sense, even to myself.
Jodie! Yes, we will find a way to get it, regardless of what the record company decides! Anyone who chooses to release mammoth over that one is insane. And with Paul rocking out, it'll be cool as he'll only do it sometimes... when he's drunk. The rest of the time he can do the sexy shy boy, phwoar!

QUOTE (intersubjective @ Sep 17 2007, 05:46 AM)
Published on JunkOnline.net (http://www.junkonline.net) That’s Some Love You Got There By Jolyn Created 09/03/2007 - 13:05 Since catching the music world’s attention in 2002 with Turn On The Bright Lights, Interpol have not let go of listening ears. Follow up release, 2004’s Antics, was another smash hit for Interpol and the group recently released their third, Our Love To Admire. Again, the group has gotten plenty of critical and commercial loving. Band consists of singer/guitarist Paul Banks, guitarist Daniel Kessler, bass player Carlos Dengler and drummer Sam Fogarino. The good folks at Interpol’s record label offered Junk an interview, and of course I went for it, talking with Paul and Carlos about the making the album and the band’s well-publicised internal conflicts.
Hi guys. How’s it going? We’ll start off nice and slow, with a real easy question. So… tell us about the most intense day you’ve had while recording Love over at the new studio.
Paul: We’re fine thanks very much! Hope you guys are doing fine as well. Not sure about intense day but I have to say one of the trickiest songs we had to record was “Pace Is The Trick”. It took ages and ages and ages to write that song. It’s weird. There’re some songs that you start working on and you really feel like they’re going to be really tough to get through, but then all of a sudden they’ll come together quickly and easily. “Pioneer To The Falls” didn’t take long to put together, and neither did “Mammoth” and those are two of the more complicated songs, arrangement-wise, on the record. But then there’s a song like “Pace Is The Trick” which seems like it’s going to be a simple song, you know, the verses, the choruses, the bridge and stuff like that, but it took a long time to make it what it is.
Speaking of intense, I heard you guys broke up four times since starting playing together. That’s kind of mental. Why did it happen and who started the break up?
Paul: There isn’t a particular person who initiates it all the time. The reason why we walk away sometimes is that I think the brain naturally craves some kind of breathing space. So you can come back with a fresh attitude towards the songs, so that the band can feel new again. When you walk away for a while, your environment changes, you gain new perspectives, and that’s when inspiration comes in for new material.
So you guys are back together for good now. What convinced you guys to keep on going?
Paul: The fact that all of us feel so strongly about this album. We were at a point where we were open to making a more expansive-sounding record and letting new sounds into the equation and we’re really proud of the end results. We couldn’t have made this album a reality without each other and we’re proud as hell to present this to the world together.
Do you believe that separation is sometimes necessary in order for a band to grow? How do you think that translated into the songs on Love?
Paul: Yea, walking away definitely helped us clear our heads so we come back refreshed and ready to go. All the writing is gleaned from my personal experiences and observations of the things I see. But everything that I sing is somehow informed by my personal experience and my personal life. On this record we were ready to be open to any road we want to take. The first two records are basically the four of us playing more or less the instruments with some keyboards and final touches. On this record, basically, when we started writing, we were very open to any route that we wanted to take. We didn’t have any parameters. The first record was very much a live record; it sounds like us playing. The second one had a warmer sound and a little more texture.
“The Heinrich Maneuver” is the first single off the band’s new record. What inspired you guys to call it that? And why did you refer to it as a “nugget” in NME?
Paul: It’s actually meant to be a nugget of information for anyone who wants to delve into what Heinrich Maneuver means. The title is inspired by Heinrich Schenker, a famous music theorist in the 1800s. His theories were meant to help performers have a deeper understanding of the works they were performing and that’s what we’re trying to achieve.
I’ve got a question for Carlos, the sweetie pie with the moustache. When you said that the studio experience was “a lot more drawn out” what did you mean by it? We know this album took a lot of work to produce, but why are “the stakes a lot higher” than the previous two? What’s riding on this album?
Carlos: Unlike Antics and Bright Lights, the songs were written in a more condensed period–ten months of uninterrupted writing, to be exact. Whereas for the first album we obviously had years to write. We could stop for a while and get back to it again. The second record had some songs that we worked on shortly after completing Bright Lights, and then some songs that we wrote when we finally settled down after touring Bright Lights, to complete the album. To work on an album from start to finish non-stop was not something we had done before so there’s a cohesiveness that comes from one solid process of writing. This is the first time our album is released under a major label so I think there’s a lot of eyes looking, waiting to see how this album will do. We’ve also taken to experimenting with new sounds on this album and we’re hoping our fans will really like them as well. We worked so hard on this record and we’re so proud of it that I think it’ll really affect us if we find out our fans are not so hot about it.
I know you guys don’t give a crap about what people think of you, and that’s really cool – on an insane level – but what does Interpol want to convey, or “enlighten” the public even, with their latest album, Love?
Paul: The enjoyment we get in admiring things.
Besides coming up with rather “Eureka!-like” song titles, what other quirks do you think make Interpol a unique band from the rest of the post-rock, revival ones?
Paul: I think the funny thing about us as a band is that though we’re very particular with the sequencing of songs, when we play live, we don’t really play albums sequentially. We’ll choose to go straight into another song. An album has to have a flow to it that you create. When we position songs in the album, we think of the vibe and the feel of each song, and then compare them and contrast them with all the others, and then place them in such a way that they tell a meaningful story.
If you guys had to perform in Asia – hot, hot, sweltering Asia – would you still be wearing those Nazi looking suits? How important is attire or dress-up to you guys? Would you consider doing a show in flip flops, a beach hat, and wife-beaters?
Paul: That’ll be pretty cool actually, to perform in flip flops and berms. But then there’s all the unsightly leg hair sticking out which we have to consider… so… we’ll definitely perform in something light but I can safely say our legs will be well covered. (Laughs.) I GOT MY INTERPOL DREAM! Before going to bed i watched the niit video on my zen because i thought if the boys were fresh in my mind i would be more likely to get a dream about them. And here is the dream:
OK so, my school got this horrible new headmaster who was like Bill Murray's evil twin and he was going to try and blow up the school! For some reason I actually cared about this (big plot hole there) and got a gang together to fight evil bill murray. We were pretty terrible warriors and we were about to give up hope when the cute gang leader says, "Don't worry guys, I called the International Police!" then the sky turned sexy and someone whispers, "they're coming"
Everyone turned around in shock to see Interpol striding towards the school in slow-mo. Daniel had his "how you doin" face, carlos was strutting like a model from a western, sam was smoking as he took off his hat and Paul, oh paul!, did the most fantastic hair flick i have ever [not] seen!! Once interpol arrived they used their keen fashion sense and smoldering good looks to defuse the bomb and with a single pout from Carlos the evil headmaster was dead.
I had to scribble it all down this morning so I would remember all the details. I reckon that dream is up there with some of the greats; it even beats the recurring ninja orphanage dream!
the board must be hungry again... vinnie, your post was too tasty!
dude, i really hope it works for you. interpol dreams are so much fun!! i couldn't believe how lucky i got

Since catching the music world’s attention in 2002 with Turn On The Bright Lights, Interpol have not let go of listening ears.
(Laughs.)

I GOT MY INTERPOL DREAM!
