The NYC Yay Voting Show

edited November -1 in OK Go
http://team-love.com/home/archives/get-out...h-craig-wedren/

Getupandvote.com presents: “Barack Rock” Hosted by Stella: Michael Ian Black, Michael Showalter and David Wain OK GO Craig Wedren (of Shudder to Think) Nathan Larson (of Shudder to Think) Nina Persson (of The Cardigans) Joan As Police Woman & other special guests

WHAT: A rare evening of outstanding music and comedy on the eve of the 2008 primary elections (aka ‘Super Tuesday,’ where over 20 states will most likely determine the two final Presidential candidates).

WHEN/WHERE: February 4th, 2008, Bowery Ballroom, NYC

WHO: The show will be hosted by the comedy group “Stella” with David Wain, Michael Ian Black and Michael Showalter. Musical guests include: OkGo, Craig Wedren, Nathan Larson and Nina Persson, plus other surprise guests.

WHY: To remind young voters to get up and VOTE the next day in the Presidential primary elections, and, specifically, to vote for Barack Obama who, in our opinion, is the only viable and honest candidate that represents actual, meaningful change for our country in this time of acute political, social, and economic decline, as well as lost international standing. College-aged Americans are, historically, a lazy voting block. But they are also huge in number, and could turn the tide of the 2008 elections if they show up at the polls and vote on primary day, as well as in November for the national elections. More than any other candidate, Obama has been inspiring a spark of real interest and hope among this traditionally apathetic crew, and it is our goal to help fan the flames of action as far and wide as possible.

HOW: The event will be a straight concert, not a rally or a fundraiser. It will be neither preachy nor didactic (no banners or platitudes), but a clear, inspiring reminder for viewers and listeners to get off their asses and vote. We will be using new –as well as traditional- media outlets (blogs, podcasts, online social networks, websites, magazines, newspapers, etc.) to publicize and broadcast the show and it’s message to as many young voters as possible. If you can help us by donating time, ideas, services, artists, etc., just leave a message for us here.

Change what’s going on in your country (and in the world) by voting, not just in the November Presidential elections, but in the primaries on ‘Super Tuesday’, Feb. 5, 2008, which will determine the final two Presidential candidates. Have a say in who runs. Don’t be lazy. Register NOW at www.rockthevote.com –the cutoff dates for voting in the all-important primaries are VERY soon.

Determine who rules: vote.

Thank you!
Craig Wedren, Meggan Lennon, and everybody at getupandvote

(Dammit. Can't possibly go, but will be at the concert two days beforehand so it's okay. And also, so he *is* an Obama supporter. Sweet)

    EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

I an so, so proud to be a fan of this band, this band that is beyond words.
  • AHHHHH

O man, I have to go to this.

And they support Obama?!?! Awesome, I knew this band was by far amazing.

edit: o man, 18+? Do you think they will enforce that? I don't know if they are just saying that because it's a voting thing and you have to be 18, but I hope they don't mind. I mean, i'll be 18 this year and able to vote, so they should just let me in haha.
  • These boys are so amazing. I didn't know it was possible to love them even more.

    Katie...road trip?? tongue.gif

    WHOA, dream big, right?

You want to do a road trip, how about the DC show two days beforehand that *is* a fundraiser? DC is a shorter drive than NYC is. I'm just sayin'. ;-)
  • uhhh i think fel and i should somehow go to this.... lol i don't have a break... but i think we somehow should.

Don't play with my heart like that, Beas...

and Mel. I saw 'Stella' in there and was wondering how long it would take for you and Fel to reply wink.gif
  • OBAMA! YUSSSSSSSS.

But, being too young to vote and quite far from NYC, that's a dammit for me.

So awesome that they're doing this, though!
  • Augh. They're playing with Nina Persson??? That's really awesome.

Yeah, I totally can't make this. I'm already missing classes for a concert the week after this, plus I have a show to go to in Boston on the 2nd.

Most of Bowery's shows are at least 18+. I'm not sure how lenient they are about enforcing that, but this isn't a one-off thing at an all ages venue, so they're probably used to under-18's trying to get in.

    You could always try anyway.
  • What a coincidence! Obama's coming tomorrow night to talk at a high school here. Unfortunately, it's not mine. D=
  • Even though there's absolutely no way I will be able to go to this, it makes my life so much happier. I love the boys. wub.gif

And the fact that it's called “Barack Rock” is so hilarious. My school sort of has this Barack supporting chapter called the Barack Stars. lol
  • OMGOSH! STELLA + OK GO? THOSE ARE LIKE MY 2 FAVOURITE THINGS!!!!1

I WISH I LIVED IN NYC!

mel wants to do it road trip stylzz... but... i dont think we can... darn you school! this would of been the raddest first road trip eva
  • AHHHH

    I GOT TICKETS!

Sorry, Im a tad bit excited since I haven't seen the boys in awhile and this event will be beyond awesome.

I called up my mom at school today to remind her to buy the tickets, and I got a text from her while in my class that she got them. So happy!

Now I just have to get around the 18+ thing. Hopefully they won't check? I don't know. And I have to figure out who's going haha But o well, I'm going atleast!!!!
  • How exciting! That show is going to be SO so fun biggrin.gif
  • ooooou! good luck on getting in!

lol i have a test on that day so i guess for reals the roadtrip is out of the question.

take some pics and besure to rememeber all the fun things to tell us! please! laugh.gif
  • Well how far short are you of 18? Can you pass for 18? Can a friend who already is 18 go with you (or your mom, maybe)?

HOORAY PATTI! You're going to see OK Go!!!
  • O thanks everyone. I was so excited today. Me and my friends who are going were trying to comprehend that this event will consist of Stella, OK Go, and Barack Obama. Craziness!

Well Rachel, I'm actually going to be 18 in less than 6 months, but I don't think that I could really pass for an 18 year old haha. I look young sorta. And the friends that I know are going are actually like 1 and 2 months younger than me. But I might go with my older brother and some of his friends and they're like 23, so maybe that would help.
  • I was 15 and looked like I was 13 when I got into my first 18+ show, but the place wasn't strict, so that's why. The only advice I can give is find the guys before and complain. That's what I always do, but it only paid off once. I think it just pissed them off the other times.
  • O man, I really really really really hope I can get in. My brother, who was going to go, now says he doesn't think I will get in. But he isn't too sure. I hope he is wrong. But I REALLY want to go. UGH
  • i'm kinda bummed i didnt get tickets to this event before it sold out. kicking myself because i REFUSED to pay ticketmaster their stupid service charges and wanted to go down to the box office but kept putting it off and then the day i was gonna go it sold out. ARG.

and i don't know how bowery ballroom is nowadays, but back when i was 18 I went to a Rooney show there and they checked IDs CRAZY HARD for a 16+ show. (I know, ridiculous, right?) My friends who were with me were 17, but didnt have their IDs on them. They had to run to the closest Kinkos in the POURING RAIN to have their mom FAX A COPY OF THEIR IDS to them so they could present it to the douchebag bouncer who wouldn't let them in without it!

It's a story we never forget and laugh about to this day, though at the time it royally sucked since we missed some of the opening act. Btw, this was about 4 years ago...who knows what it's like now. It's was probably just that one a-hole bouncer anyway...

EDIT: and if you ARE gonna go, DEFINITELY have an ID with you no matter. i dont care if it's fake...the Bowery is known for checking IDs...about how "well" they check 'em, is anyone's guess but you'll probably be rejected without one
  • hey! im excited for reports of tonights ventures!

eeeek! can't wait for the details guys!
