Paris Show 9.15.06!

Sorry that I haven't posted about this already. I had a, um, guest this weekend and I was sort of preoccupied...

Anyway. So Friday night was the OK Go show at Batofar in Paris! Apparently it was OK Go's first time playing on a boat, and it was my first time seeing a show on a boat, so I'm glad we had this, um, special experience together, haha.

I think I got to the venue a little late- the ticket said 19h (ie 7 pm), but I didn't know if that was what time doors opened or it started, and there was another band listed, and they were already playing, etc. I met my two friends, wandered inside, tried to find a good spot, and decided to go sit down with my friends instead. We hung out in the back of the venue by the bar 'til about 95% of the way through The Hard Lesson's set (who were pretty good actually, and were giving away free CDs, haha), at which point we squeezed our way through the crowd trying to find a good spot. Eventually, we would up all the way Stage Tim, in a corner, in the second row. Pretty good view, not so great for pics, but I still wound up taking about 75 anyway.

Set list was pretty much the same as its been for the past several months: "Television," "Don't Ask Me," "Here It Goes Again," "Good Idea," "Don't Bring Me Down," "Get Over It," "Oh Lately," "Do What You Want," AMW dance.

Damian led in "HIGA" (I think) by yelling out "Bon soir!" and talking about how pamplemousse was one of his all time top 10 favourite words ever. I could only laugh because I remembered that blog he did where he was drunk and laying on the floor saying "pamplemousse" to himself. And at another point Tim said, "Vous etes tres chic" ("You are very chic"), to which Damian was like, "NICE ONE!" and they high fived or something. It was silly.

Before "DBMD," Damian talked about how the last time they were in Paris was the same day we went into the Iraq war, so we all booed, and then somehow he transitioned into "So here's a song from your enemies, the Brits, by ELO." My friends and I started screaming (something I really rarely do) because we were so happy they were playing that song. It was great. Damian did the whole getting down into the crowd thing. After the song he said, "You guys are a lot of ass-grabbers. I definitely felt a lot of ass grabbing going on..." HAHA.

Then he said, "Now here's a song by a band called OK Go," except something was wrong, so he said, "Guess not......hey, do you guys find Les Mis funny?"

I really kinda freaked out, I reeeeeeallllllllllly wanted them to do the Les Mis thing since, hey, they're in France! So started yelling REALLY LOUDLY "Do it do it do it do it do it!"

This of course caught Damian's attention, and he pointed at me and I don't remember exactly what he said, but it was along the lines of "You shut the fuck up, we're not going to do it just 'cause we're in France!"

My very mature response to this? Sticking my tongue out at him. Haha.

It was pretty awesome. I have officially been told off by Damian.

Anyway, the show continued, Damian told off someone else ("We're having this problem again. I HAVE THE FUCKING MICROPHONE!"), they did the dance (which involved Damian grooving to Daft Punk before they started, which was cute), and that was that.

After that, I left the crowd and my friends left, so I was just standing around at the top of the venue while MCS started, and Damian comes in from outside, looking for someone. So I poke him (with the OK Go poster I'd gotten for free from some street teamers, muaha), and say, "Sorry for being such a pain in the ass during the show," to which he said, "Don't worry about it, I just like to fuck with people, especiall at foreign shows, it's so easy to do that." Then he told him that he had to search out the Capitol reps because apparently they were getting dinner with them, but he said, "I'll talk to you later...what's your name again?" and the whole intro thing, and then he wandered off.

So I just hung around and went outside for MCS's set. I was feeling really sick to my stomach, 'cause Barry was supposed to be at the show, but his trains kept getting delayed, and I hadn't heard from him for HOURS, I didn't know where he was, if he was okay, etc. I was so nervous, I was making myself sick.

Anyway. So the merch people set up shop outside, I contemplated getting a new shirt, didn't like any of the ones they had, talked to the merch girl about how I was freaking out and about how merch is the only way to really help out the guys, etc. (Apparently, the boys get NOTHING from record sales. Capitol gets it all.

So she was like, "If you really want to help the band, don't bake them brownies, buy their merch 'cause 100% of that goes to the band.") Also, Dan was wandering around a lot, but I was too nervous to go say "hi." Odd.

So the show ended, everyone flooded outside, I found Barry (actually, he found me) and was much relieved, and we wandered over to talk to Damian. He and Rusty were really the only ones outside. Apparently they had to dash because they had to have dinner with the label reps (Damian's take on this: "Look at us! Dancing monkies!"), which was a shame, because I felt so at ease talking to Dami this time, I really did. I really just wanted to have a long conversation with him, and I'm kind of bummed that I didn't, although the convo we did have was pretty good.

Anyway, so I just sauntered up to him and asked straight out, "So Damian, if Micheal Jackson, isn't the King of Pop.....who is?"

To which he said something along the lines of, "I don't think there always has to be a King of Pop. I mean, why does there have to be a regent? But honestly....I really think it's JT now."

And then we talked about how awesome JT is and how he's hilarious, and Damian was like, "And you know what? He fucking loves us. During his VMAs dress rehearsal, he stopped for a second and looked down from the stage and said to us, 'I fucking love you guys! You're fucking adorable!'" Hahaha. Damian was so happy about that.

Then...I asked how life post-VMAs is, he said exciting...then I asked about the Simpsons thing, and he told me the deal with that (they won't be on the show, the song and the dance will be, it'll be minor characters, and it's not going to come out for awhile), and how awesome that was. Oh, and then we somehow got onto the topic of them not getting any money from the record sales, and he was like, "I mean, how many of your friends own our record, three?" to which I was like, "No......I have a lot of Boardie friends......" Haha.

Anyway, then he had to run, thanked me for coming to the show, I shouted "You guys take care!" after him, to which he saluted, haha. And that was that.

I have to be honest. This was probably one of my least favourite shows I've been to, though. The set list was predictable (I mean, I wasn't expecting a B-sides and rarities show, but still....), Damian's voice was good but not as good as I've heard it (and he kept fucking up the lyrics a bunch, haha), as much as I enjoyed talking to Damian post-show (and I really did, like I said, I felt so at ease this time) I really wish the guys could have stuck around, the crowd was slightly annoying, etc. They were good. They weren't spectacular. I don't know. I just didn't feel the same in a sense. I guess the show I saw in January was just so amazing, from the very first opening band to the second I left the venue, it's going to be hard to beat out.

and yay for being yelled at by Damian. that's so awesome, haha.

sounds like a lot of fun, although it makes me sad that the January show was so great, as I couldn't go. I don't regret your getting to go, I just regret the Paradise's 18+-ness. ah well, they're at the Avalon and I should be going to that.

I was kind of irritated by it at first, but after the show my friend Anna was like, "No, actually, it was kinda' cool," and then when I apologised, he was really cool about it, so obviously I didn't really piss him off. It was just OnStage!Damian talking.

Yeah, I'm sad that you were at the concert, becuase it was just amazing from start to finish. :/ But definitely go to the Avalon show! I'd be there if I wasn't in France, haha. You'll have a great time. And you know they're going to sing "The Fix Is In".....

I remember the first time I met him, I was like "OMGO9827350981!!!!1ONEONE!!!!111" and the time after that, it was slightly awkward (and involved a really bad pic), but it's gotten easier each time. I think it helped that like, NO ONE else was trying to talk to him at the same time. I didn't have to worry about him cutting the convo short to go talk to another fangirl, you know?

I like the bad close up of Rusty, 'cause it would be a good close up, if only ther wasn't stuff in the way. Namely, that giant hanging speaker and that kid's head.
