Questions about makeup (I'm clueless)

Do you really need to throw out your mascara every like few months? I think I've had the same tube for like 2 years now! I just started like using it a lot so I'm worried.

You're supposed to get a new tube every six months. The germy stuff on your eyelashes will live on the mascara wand, and then it gets into the tube.. I don't know exactly what that does to you, but I'd get a new one if I were you.
  • hahahah. ive never had to deal with that problem because 1-i cannever manage to keep my mascara safe that long 2-i have a short attntion span when it comes to mascara. i am always switching around so they never get a chance to get old and 3-if by chance i end up LOVING a mascara(ie. maybellines full n soft) and it ends up as a staple in my mascara-collection, it will probably run out long before 6 months is over, forget 2 years!!!!

and yeah, i would DEFINITELY throw that out salmeen! even if it ISNT all germy and stuff, its probably all nasty and not working properly.
  • Oh, hi Sal, how are you?

I have little interest in makeup, I never care about the span of mascara. I'm like you, Sal, I've used the same stuff for a few years. I don't know if it works or not. haha.
  • Setsumi, you are too cute.

Apparently since I'm turning 20 on the 23rd my mum thinks it's about time that I start acting like a girl and start like doing something about my appearance. On the first day of classes she was like "Put some makeup on or something!" and I was like "Why?" and she said, "So you can bag a husband!" So I like tried as best as I could with a little lip gloss and some blush so I didn't look like "a corpse" as she says and she gave me the thumbs up. Turned out that like 95% of my class that day was all girls. Silly.

Honestly, I have no idea how to like use makeup to like accentuate my features or like what hues look good on me. How can I find out?
  • ask amina. shes a make-up goddess...

i only ever really wear make-up if i'm seeing ryan or if i'm going out. i dont wear it too often to my lectures... i find wearing make-up lots doesnt do my skin any favours. and then when i do wear it it makes a difference.

HAHAHHAHA so you can "bag a husband" is sooo priceless!!!

salmeen, i am thinking you're probably in the same skin-tone family as i am and just so you know....we are really lucky cause EVERY color looks good on us. the thing abt having dark hair and dark eyes isthat you can wear the brightest turquoise on your eyes and not look like a freak.

you should start out slow...like...go to mac or osmething and ask them for a makeover. usually, you have to buy like, 3 items or osmething and they do a free makeover and theyll tell you/show you how to apply it.

to accentuate your eyes: line the inside of your eyes with white eyeliner pencil. on the top, use kohl, liquid liner or any other form of eyeliner you like and line from the inside corner outward, extending past your eyelashes and curving up a little. the thickest part of the line should be the outside end and the thinnest should be the inside. then put LOTTTTTS of mascara on.
  • If you can't go to an actual store to get tips, you can answer some questions at covergirl.com, and they will give you some looks that you can try.. and they also have sections on the site to show you how to apply eye shadow, foundation.. all different stuff like that. it's pretty helpful if you don't really know much, and they really explain things thoroughly.
  • Amina, you're so helpful. I'm surprised I'm like so white because lots of people in my family are like dark! I don't know what happened there. When I was born everyone called me "Pakhta Gul" which means "cotton flower" because of the insane whiteness. Hehehe.

I need to buy a new mascara since my other one is so old but like I don't know which to get and like there are so many choices! I want a little bit of thickness and mostly separation of lashes. No curling necessary. Any suggestions?

I use Almay, they're hypoallergenic and they don't give me raccoon eyes.

My cousin and I were born 6 days apart, I'm only 50% puerto rican and he's 100%. When I was born, I was really really dark with a dark curly afro and when he was born, he was pale white with light eyes and blonde hair. Everyone swore the babies were switched..
  • maybelline full n soft is to date, one of the best mascaras ever. i always stick to maybelline for mascara. maybelline was the first mascara ever. maybelline INVENTED mascara, so i trust them.

melanie, did you see macs new fluidline liner?? oh my god! GORGEOUS. i got teh electric bolue one an dthe bronze one. so so so so so hot.
  • so many great sigs in this thread..

Really? Oh that's no good for me. No good at all. Question. Which color is better for eyeliner? Black or charcol? I think charcol is good right? Also, do you need to use foundation? What does it do?

and why the hell did you feel the need to bump it?
  • because he has questions about makeup . . . . that haven't been asked yet.

It's OK Andy, you can ask. biggrin.gif

Ummm, foundation is sort of like cover-up I guess. It covers blemishes and stuff. I never use it because I have good skin. Even though my mom thinks I'm deathly pale right now because it's winter, but I would rather be pale than to have bad skin when I'm older.

If i don't have any blemishes, I don't need it. So I don't wear it.

And charcoal eyeliner sounds better than black to me.
  • I don't knwo shit about makeup... I have some but don't use it... usually.
  • how do you not poke your self in the eye and mouth hole when yo aply all this stuff?

why is dark eye makeup so damn hot?

    does anyone ever use blusher?
  • OOOOOH I looooooove black eye shadow!!! That's is total love, also black eyeliner biggrin.gif

I don't use blush.. my cheeks are always pink O.O
  • if sumone wore black eye concats that would rock....oo or pink/purple
