I thought so too until someone brought up the theory that Harry is a horcrux and therefore has to die in order for Voldemort to die.
That´s the main theory, and I don´t quite agree with it. I mean, if I´m wrong, I´m wrong, but I don´t think he´s going to be a horcrux. Or even if he is, I think something´s going to happen where he doesn´t wind up dying because of it.

But really, how come the characters only started noticing the attractions to the opposite sex in 9th grade? My friends and I started way before that lol
I think it´s because, prior to about fourth year, hormones and such weren´t really important to the story line. It´s not to say that, in theory, the characters weren´t noticing each other and hormones weren´t kicking in; it just wasn´t important to the story at that point. I mean, I think she acknowledged the whole "noticing the opposite sex" thing early on with Ginny´s schoolgirl crush on Harry and Percy´s thing with Penny.
It´s just, in general, you don´t give information that isn´t pertinent to the story line. (Which is why, when you read a book or see a film, you have to think, "Okay, why am I being given this information now? How is this pertinent now? Why not tell me this later?") Maybe Ron had a crush on some random chick in his third year but it didn´t lead to anything, and therefore, it´s not important to write about it.
(Yeah, you all probably know this already, haha. I´m just saying.)
Also, since that rumor has been circling forever, I'm starting to wonder if, even if Rowling had meant him to be a horcrux in the beginning, that she maybe has since changed it, otherwise it would be too expected for a good number of people.

It´s totally possible. We have no idea what goes on in her creative process. She probably didn´t count on this many people reading and analysing her books to death. Being a horcrux may seem to obvious now, but maybe it didn´t when she was coming up with the story.
After reading these posts, I can see the logic behind Snape being good. I still wouldn't leave town and ask him to watch my dog, though. Rowling has been asserting that the series will end in such a way that it cannot be picked up later. Because of this, I also wonder if Hogwarts is history, especially since Slythrin (sp?) is the new fraternity house for the Death Eaters.

Maybe one of his buds is a horcrux, i mean she always seems to tie neville into the story, i have a feeling hes more important than suspected... or im totally wrong and hes just there for comic relief

I completely agree! Something's going down with Neville
ALSO! After another Harry Potter-themed conversation, Ken and I were deciding which of our friends would be in what house in Hogwarts. I would be in Ravenclaw, he said he would be in Hufflepuff ("I've come to accept it. It's something I just need to deal with").
I've always thought I was more of a Ravenclaw, but every online "What Hogwarts house do you belong in?!" quiz I've ever taken has placed me as a Gryff. Hm.

JK Rowling had obviously forgotten about adolescent hormones in her earlier novels.
It was just an afterthought:
"Oh fuck I forgot about testosterone.
And erm.... Harry got spots and got drunk and slept with some girl."
Done.
We'll call it Harry Potter and the Unfortunate Body Hair
HHAHAHAHAHA That's brilliant!!!
And the spin-off series: Hermione and the Tampon of Doom

Our series sounds much better...
What house would YOU be in?
If I could choose, that's the house I would like to be in. Which maybe means that's where I'd end up? cause I could ask the hat, right? haha.
